Maria Leonora Teresa is based on a 3-foot ceramic-faced doll bearing the same name, that became very popular during the love team of Nora Aunor and Tirso Cruz III.
Director Wenn V. Deramas and the other staff first thought that the movie was horror-comedy, but once they read the script, they realized that it was straight horror-drama because it frightened almost all of them.
Kris Aquino was the next choice for the role of Faith after Dawn Zulueta refused the role, but she had to back out because of a commitment to film Feng Shui 2 (2014) for the MMFF 2015. She was replaced by Judy Ann Santos for a comeback movie with Star Cinema Productions. Due to scheduling conflicts, she requested Iza Calzado to grab the role instead.
