Harris Dickinson’s Directorial Debut ‘Urchin’ Gets 5-Minute Cannes Standing Ovation, Plus Lots of Love From Paul Mescal
Image
“Triangle and Sadness” and “Babygirl” star Harris Dickinson has delighted the Cannes crowd with his feature directorial debut “Urchin.”

The film, led by “Fear the Walking Dead” star Frank Dillane and a vivid portrayal of homelessness and mental health on the streets of London, had its world premiere in the Un Certain Regard competition. “Urchin” earned its new filmmaker and his cast an enthusiastic 5-minute ovation.

Dickinson looked relieved at the reception, waving across the room to whoops from the crowd.

“It’s really an honor to be here and to share it with you guy is special,” he told the audience before the screening. “I’m nervous. I hope you enjoy it and if you don’t, tell us gently.”

Judging by the response, few didn’t enjoy it. Among those joining in the ovation was Paul Mescal, soon set to star alongside Dickinson in the upcoming quartet of...

‘Urchin’ Review: Harris Dickinson’s Knockout Directorial Debut Creates High Art From A Low, Sad Life – Cannes Film Festival
Image
No good deed goes unpunished in Urchin, a London-set character study that shows so much sophisticated and worldly wisdom it’s hard to believe that its writer, director and co-star is only 28 years old. Built around a charismatic performance from Frank Dillane, best known for his role as recovering heroin addict Nick Clark in AMC’s Fear the Walking Dead, Harris Dickinson’s remarkable feature debut takes the tropes of socially conscious British cinema and fashions a deceptively nuanced cautionary tale that isn’t so much about the failings of that society as our own personal capacity for self-destruction.

At the center of the drama is Michael (Dillane), who we find sleeping rough, woken up by city noise and the earnest entreaties of a largely ignored street preacher. In a subtle moment that tells you exactly who he is, Michael rudely pushes past her, then sets about his day. After charging his phone,...

Harris Dickinson Unpacks ‘Urchin’: “I Wanted to Direct Before I Wanted to Act”
Image
Harris Dickinson and Frank Dillane can’t help but giggle.

The pair are now closely bonded after shooting Dickinson’s directorial debut Urchin, which Hollywood “It” Boy Dickinson — soon set to headline Sam Mendes’ Beatles biopics for Sony — describes as a miracle (seven times, in fact).

The London-set film follows Mike, played by British actor Dillane, whom audiences might know best from Fear the Walking Dead, Renegade Nell or as a young Voldemort in Harry Potter and the Half Blood-Prince. We watch Mike, a drifter, sleep on the city streets and attempt to patch together his life while caught in the throes of addiction. In between working as a chef, litter-picker, and wrestling Dickinson on the ground, Mike relies on meditative tapes and his no-nonsense social worker to get sober.

“I think people’s tolerance for stories like this is often low because they don’t want to look at...

Joe Rogan Thinks It’s Weird People Are Still Watching The Walking Dead
Image
Joe Rogan has had some interesting conversations on his podcast, The Joe Rogan Experience, and some are as nerdy as his deep dive into the weapons used in The Walking Dead. Speaking to actor and podcaster Theo Von, Rogan dove deep into why some of the weaponry in the show makes no sense.

On the other hand, Von wondered if people were still interested in the show when its finale came around. Rogan agreed that it might be odd that people were still watching it, given that the show had been going for quite some time, and there were some changes to the narrative and tone, which could have alienated some audiences.

Tulsa King Season 3: Everything We Know So Far
Image
Sylvester Stallone might have a new title as President Trump's "special ambassador to Hollywood," but he's still sitting on the throne as the "Tulsa King." Yes, the Paramount+ juggernaut, one in a long line of Taylor Sheridan produced series, will be returning for a third season.

It makes sense that actor turned prolific TV creative has been able to create so many of these shows (considering he wrote the "Tulsa King" pilot in less than 24 hours), and yet, despite the quick script, some say "Tulsa King" may be Sheridan's best work (or at least the most entertaining of the bunch). The tale of Dwight "The General" Manfredi (Stallone) and rise from exiled New York mafia soldier to kingpin of Tulsa, Oklahoma has produced some of the funniest, strangest characters in the entire Sheridan universe. It has also helped turn the show into a hit for Paramount+, which has...

Godzilla X Kong: Supernova: Everything We Know So Far About The Kaiju Sequel
Image
We may receive a commission on purchases made from links.

The MonsterVerse has become one of the most reliable, slow and steady cinematic universes going in Hollywood. Tracing its roots back to Gareth Edwards' gritty, grounded, divisive hit "Godzilla" in 2014, the franchise has since expanded to five increasingly wild movies, a TV show in the form of "Monarch: Legacy of Monsters," comics books, and even video games. Now, Warner Bros. and Legendary are reuniting once again for another kaiju-filled cinematic romp coming our way in 2027.

While virtually nothing has been revealed yet in terms of plot details, the studio has confirmed that "Godzilla x Kong: Supernova" has an official release date. Given that 2024's "Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire" became the biggest movie in MonsterVerse history, that's not remotely surprising. So, what is "Supernova" going to bring to the table? Does the term relating to the implosion of a...

Godzilla and King Ghidorah in Godzilla: King of the Monsters (2019)

“[It] Can Go On and On”: ‘The Walking Dead’ Boss Thinks the Franchise Could Extend to 2040
Image
The future of The Walking Dead franchise just got an interesting update from executive Scott. M Gimple. Based on the series of graphic novels by Robert Kirkman, Tony Moore, and Charlie Adlard, The Walking Dead first hit the air in 2010 and ran until 2022. However, that didn’t mark the end of the franchise, as spin-offs such asThe Ones Who Live, Fear the Walking Dead, Dead City, and Daryl Dixon have all aired just in the last few years. Gimple recently caught up with Games Radar to talk about the future of The Walking Dead franchise, and although it’s been around for 15 years now, he seems confident that it could go for another 15 and extend into 2040 and beyond:

"I do see that potential. The Walking Dead is about compelling characters in an unforgiving world, but one that is not without hope. Because the stakes are so high, the choices these...

Standing next to her Alias and Lost co-star, Mia Maestro, who measures just 5 feet 3 ½ inches (161.3 cm), Maggie Grace’s statuesque frame is even more striking. For the occasion, she wore a sheer pink embroidered dress from Stella McCartney’s Resort 2019 collection, layered over a coordinating slip for modesty.

She styled the ethereal look with a white Stella McCartney clutch featuring chain detail and stepped into transparent pumps adorned with pearls. While the accessories elevated the ensemble, a closer color match between the dress and slip could have enhanced the overall polish.

Maggie Grace dazzles in a sheer pink lace ensemble with pearl-embellished Pvc pumps, while Mia Maestro keeps...

Lanterns director on how much the HBO series will be like True Detective
Image
Since its beginning, Lanterns has billed itself as a mystery series similar to True Detective. Speaking with THR, Lanterns director James Hawes believes those comparisons are valid, but adds that the Green Lantern series will have a little more humour.

“Talking tone, it looks and feels rooted. You meet two guys, but there is wit and comedy to it that you would not expect in True Detective,” Hawes said. “It is, in many ways, a buddy cop structure with travel in the story time, to and fro, that is really sophisticated. Chris Mundy has done the most amazing job with the team there, and so I think [the True Detective comparison] is valid. People will still go, ‘What were you talking about?’ to some extent, but I would also bring in No Country for Old Men, Fargo and things that have that Americana heart to them. There’s a wry humor, and so there...

Marvel legend joins the cast of the next Godzilla x Kong movie
Image
It's pretty apt that the next movie in Legendary's MonsterVerse franchise is generating such discussion around Easter time, for it was Easter last year that saw the most recent film in the series take the world by storm upon its release. This year, it's all about the casting, as the film has added yet another major star to its ever-growing cast.

The third movie in the Godzilla x Kong saga and sixth overall in the MonsterVerse film series (and to feature at least one of the titular movie monster legends), the upcoming sequel was commissioned off the back of the monumental success of last year's Godzilla x Kong: The New Empire. And for this new, somewhat unanticipated next chapter in the franchise, the monsters are reeling in some big stars.

The most recent addition to the line-up comes in the form of a Hollywood icon who knows a thing...

"I Always Keep It In The Mix": Scott Gimple Wants To Revive One of 'The Walking Dead's Best Spin-Offs
Image
The Walking Dead at the peak of its powers, was one of the most beloved television shows around. After enjoying a lengthy, multi-season run, the mainline series ended, giving way to the arrival of spin-offs which explored different characters in new locations. From key spin-offs like Fear the Walking Dead, the franchise began to expand, telling new stories as time passed. Serving as both an executive producer and showrunner, Scott Gimple has long held sway over the franchise, charting its course. Despite being infested by zombies, Gimple has come to love the franchise, and he recently revealed a previously concluded spinoff he'd like to revisit.

Currently, The Walking Dead franchise is being driven by spinoffs like The Walking Dead: Dead City, The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon, and The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live. However, before any of these shows aired, the anthology series, Tales of the Walking Dead, had...

Lanterns: Everything we know about the upcoming Dcu HBO series (gun-wielding John Stewart spotted on set)
Image
What Do We Know About the upcoming Dcu original series Lanterns? More thank you may think. The HBO series will be the first live-action project on television from James Gunn’s rebooted DC cinematic universe. With casting announcements, rumors, and more, we know a lot of what is to come. So, let’s jump in and discuss Lanterns.

We will see multiple Green Lanterns

While we met several members of the Green Lantern Corps in the Ryan Reynolds-led feature film, this new series is intentionally plural, as we will meet more than just Hal Jordan. According to James Gunn, Lanterns will center on Jon Stewart, who briefly appeared in Zack Snyder’s Justice League in a non-speaking role. We also know that James Gunn’s longtime friend and collaborator Nathan Fillion is portraying Lanterns hero Guy Gardner in the upcoming Superman movie and will potentially appear.

Kyle Chandler is Hal Jordan,...

Edgar Wright at an event for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
The Running Man first trailer was shown to the CinemaCon audience
Edgar Wright at an event for Scott Pilgrim vs. the World (2010)
Four years have gone by since it was announced that Edgar Wright was coming on board to direct a new take on the novel The Running Man, which was written by Stephen King under his Richard Bachman pen name. The Running Man was, of course, previously turned into a film back in 1987 that starred Arnold Schwarzenegger and had little to do with the source material. Last year, Wright’s take on the material began filming with Glen Powell of Top Gun: Maverick, Hit Man, and Twisters in the lead role. Production wrapped last month – and now, the audience at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas has already gotten to see the first trailer for the film!

King’s novel has the following description: It was the ultimate death game in a nightmare future America. The year is 2025 and reality TV has grown to the point where people are willing to...

The Walking Dead Producer Wants To Revive One Of The Franchise's Coolest Spin-Offs
Image
"The Walking Dead" isn't what it once was, but it's still quite active if you know where to look. Sure, the end of the mainline series and key spin-offs like "Fear the Walking Dead" marked a downturn in overall cultural attention — a trend that began years before the original AMC show actually left the air — but diehard fans are still tuning in. Spin-offs like "The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon" and "Dead City" continue to get renewed, proving that while the zombie franchise may not be the mainstream powerhouse it once was, it still has plenty of supporters.

One of the more interesting "Walking Dead" shows in recent years is the anthology series "Tales of the Walking Dead," which ran for a single six-episode season back in 2022. The format of one-off stories brought in some big names as single-episode guest stars, including Anthony Edwards, Terry Crews, and Daniella Pineda. While there...
