Terrible
paintballex4 August 2017
Was surprised at the 5-star ratings that people gave this movie. Awful acting and production value through out the whole movie. I guess I shouldn't expect much for such a low budget film. Watch only if you are really bored and have seen everything else. Not much else I can write about it. You have been warned.

Doesn't deliver
tfigore12 November 2019
It's not unwatchable. The acting is ok and story is there, but it just loses the success of the setup as it progresses.

Deathrow Scarecrow
shawnblackman26 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
The world's most deadly killers are housed in a special clinic with the utmost security (they use wooden doors with no locks). It just so happens that the worst one of the bunch escapes leaving a pile of bodies. Can he be stopped? A group of unsuspecting young adults hope so.

I thought this was going to be like Friday the 13th meets Con Air but that was far from what it was. Nothing really new here except for one scene where the killer rides in on a horse. I thought that was different, which got me thinking they should have done a Jason Goes West.

Ridiculous piece of garbage
stephenw-3018030 April 2017
I too, as others have mentioned am a fan of Indie Horror and Thriller films. This film might qualify as both Indie and Catagorized as Horror.....But, horror in the sense it IS A HORRIBLE FILM.

I wasted 91 minutes on it so I don't dare waste another minute more writing a long winded review of this film. I do however, feel, it's my duty to warn other fans and would be watchers of this waste of film to "avoid at all costs"

Acting, direction, film quality, lighting, story line and plot are all terrible. All you need to do is watch the first 15 minutes where it's explained to some visitors a particular asylum that houses only the worst of the worst homicidal offenders, which by the way, are all kept in a room with wood doors with a lock on the knob! Nothing more keeping them safe from escape! Yep, watch it to believe it....

Nothing else needs saying. Steer WAY clear of this one folks.

Weak writing and Poor Direction
filmnerdx-2479625 April 2017
Being a fan of independent movies, and sub-par horror, I was excited to give this a try. After watching the film I was let down. Poor sound, weak story, and a slacking director. The main couple of the film, Alex and Adam, could have been so much more if the director would have focused, especially the girl, she did not retain her character well in points of the movie but they carried the movie at the same time so I have to blame the director there. The killer was lacking. Mask was great. Terrible kills, even for low budget.

I don't want any drama!
nogodnomasters5 July 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Colin Miller (Nicholas Patten) murdered his family when the wicked one entered him and took over. Years later he escapes from a mental institution around Halloween. A group of young adults hang out at the old homestead on Halloween never knowing Colin has escaped.

The film tries to create drama with Trevor (Cheyenne Gordon) the moody loner small time drug dealer, who was the only cool character in the film, until people push his buttons. His sister screams at him "NO DRAMA!" He seemed to be set up to be the final guy. As expected the killer shows up and kills people in unimaginative fashion.

This is a low budget me-too slasher. The action and Wicked Fest is supposed to take place in Carpenter Falls, Tenn., but the banner in the bar claims it is Nicholasville, Kentucky...about 100 miles or so from the border. The 150 violent psychopaths are guarded by 5 guards, and seemingly never fed. The are held behind a 70 year old wood door with a simple doorknob lock that can be easily opened with a flat object.

The film was well made for a low budget indie. They had some minor sound issues in the halls of the building. The problem was that the killer was boring and lacked a unique mark or identity. A man in a burlap mask with a knife. The burlap mask has been done in 'The Strangers, The Orphanage, Trick 'r Treat, The Wolfman Cometh, Night of the Scarecrow, Gatekeeper, Friday the 13th Part 2, The Den, Cross Bearer, and most films that have the word "scarecrow" in them. So if you are going to use a burlap mask, you need to bring your "A" game, which wasn't present in the film. The production lacked any kind of humor making the dialogue dry, outside of the guard guy talk. There is a supernatural "Jason" type of thing associated with the killer, but that was never developed enough to be entertaining.

Guide: F-word, sex, something that may pass for nudity.

Was it good
dvrhea28 April 2017
? Yes it was very good and hot. It bridges the gap and shows what can be achieved when a director. Like Terry jones who has heard of him till now? Makes a movie like this. I cannot spoil nothing but jenna jameson really made me think again about porn actresses acting in movies that are not porn movies. what you did was a buetiful thing. More things to come.

One of the worst
Geenahgee0421 October 2018
This is one of the worst movies I have ever watched in my entire life. Don't waste 1 1/2 hours of your life like I did. There is absolutely, no story line. The acting is horrible. Stick to Jason and Michael Myers.

So predictably stupid
Uberdanger25 March 2019
Warning: Spoilers
I'm guessing this script was written by an ex-military person, because halfway through it you knew that ex-military boyfriend was going to save the day, even after he was "killed"... Derivative and shallow... Not fun, even though the acting was decent

A new killer is born
sarees27 April 2017
I love independent horror movies and I thought this one was great. This movie took me back in time to the slasher flicks from the 70's and 80's.

The story and acting was good, and Jack Norman was menacing as "The Wicked One".

Slow to start but a good horror flick when it gets going
jjcuccio10 June 2018
It in a way remindes me of the first remake of Halloween, definitely not as good but it is definitely better than a lot of horror films I have tried to watch.

Underrated Slasher
kwwinter17 May 2019
Lot of bags on this flick. Does anyone remember how bad the acting was in all of the Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Hatchet movies? This is solidly on course with them. The difference is minimal; bad acting, bad direction, bad production, but that is what makes it a good horror/slasher movie for me. And I have seen a lot of stinkers in my time.

Revival of the Slasher Movies!
stephaniekaywells4 July 2017
Wow! This was one fun ride with a believable story line and local talent that delivered! Creating a new villain is no easy task, The Wicked One instills a fear that has you longing for more. The original music guides you through the scenes and packs a punch at the right moments. This story can only grow, as well as its characters. Can't wait to see what Director Tory Jones and his crew bring in the near future!

Slashers Never Die!
freekforchrist-7993828 November 2016
Warning: Spoilers
The Wicked One brings us back to the 70's and 80's era slasher films. You have your basic elements: a masked killer, innocent young adults, and the fornication that always leads to death. For a low budget film, it delivers some great quality and amazing acting. The cinematography and editing were done exceptionally well for a B movie, though there was one scene that was very difficult to watch due to bad lighting. The score really accented the mood of the film and added a lot of the suspense. Jack Norman portrays a new killer that could stand alongside Jason Voorhees and Micheal Meyers. Never says a word or even makes a sound; he leaves that for his victims. Dale Miller, Katie Stewart, Cheyenne Gordon, Adam Atherton and Sonya Delomier Reed all give spirited performances as the main cast. The movie contains some pretty frightening images that will make you jump, along with a nice bit of humor as well (like the Wicked One waiting in an elevator with muzak playing during his breakout scene). Slasher fans MUST see this new film that was called the "most anticipated horror film of 2016."

Solid slasher that accomplishes a lot on a small budget.
andrewtragedy9510 March 2019
So I went through recently and bought a bunch of horror movies on Vudu that looked interesting. This happpened to be one them, and it was pretty good! It's a pretty simple story reminiscent of Halloween.. Our killer escapes the mental facility he's being held in and heads to the old Miller place. There's a bit more of course but that's really all you need to know and, It just so happens that there's people partying there as well who he just had to kill for you know.. Being there in a slasher movie! The kills here were really well done for the small budget I imagine this flick had. For example without spoilers, there's a kill that's done so quickly with a simple knife slash, that it was almost as if our killer "the wicked one" was doing a routine activity like taking out the trash. Very well done. I also loved the Supernatural reference from the Adam character as that's my favorite show as well! All in all, if you're a massive horror fan like me and want to see something new check this one out! There's worse ways to spend 90 minutes and I feel the filmmakers really did something special here with the money they had. I hope they get to make a sequel eventually, and no this review was not sponsored or paid for. I just know absolute trash when I see it and when something is worth watching in a genre such as this.

I don't understand why this has such a low rating
oktoberlayne20 December 2023
Warning: Spoilers
I want to begin by saying that I do not give any micro-budget movie a rating high than an 8. That would be as high as Indiana Jones.

With that being said, I give The Wicked One a solid 7.

It's clear that The Wicked One is an homage to Halloween. It begins with a young Colin Miller murdering his sister. He spends years in psychiatric hospital where he promptly escapes around Halloween and returns home to murder anyone he crosses paths with. His doctor even follows and tries to stop him à la Dr. Loomis.

The Wicked One isn't the quality of a Rene Perez film, whose indie work inspired me to make films myself. But it doesn't have the budget of a Rene Perez film either.

I also prefer Dustin Millls' Slaughterhouse Slumber Party, but that's just because it's more of my type of time. Still, The Wicked One is a solid indie film that deserves a much higher rating. It has solid cinematography, as is believable acting. And the story, as I said, is an homage to Halloween.

All in all, it's a movie that's enjoyable enough for multiple viewings and is better than 90% of the micro-budget films out there. Give it a try and judge it for what it is, the work of dedicated filmmakers who deliver a solid movie with only a millionth of a Hollywood budget.
