Weird. And What Did I Miss?
wandernn1-81-68327428 April 2020
I kinda got the story of what was happening and what had happened but somewhere along the line I missed the point of all of it? Was there a point? Maybe there really wasn't a point to miss? I'm not sure. And since I'm not sure if there was one I cannot recommend. Also the film is not scary at ALL. So a definite minus on that front. The only thing about this worth anything really was the music in it was alright. And that's just background music, nothing really overwhelming there but an excuse to say something in the movie was alright.

You should be scared
nogodnomasters7 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
In the opening scene we see young Amish boy Amos take an axe to everyone after going into the forest. Young Jacob witnessed the event. Years later Jake and his family go to Amish country as a get-away which doesn't work out too well. The forest has an evil that calls to people at the solstice.

After the opening scene, the film was all boring drama with Amish, as cute as puppies, providing the scare factor. Dramatic scenes with intense music include a doll half floating in a pond. It isn't until the last 5 minutes of the film that it becomes exciting and by that time I was already bored and didn't like the title "The Harvesting" because it gave away too much.

No swearing sex or nudity. If you like made for TV drama-horrors, this one has the same feel.

Kinda creepy
dolphinds4 May 2019
Decent movie. I liked the premise. The parents of the two kids were not great actors. I thought all the other actors, especially the kids, were great . Not scary, but odd enough to keep you wondering . Not basvatcall. Give it a try

I Was Hoping...
Mehki_Girl31 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
.. the less than fout stars rating was wrong.

There was some creepiness factor and a lot of unexplained things.

Like what did Jacob do as a boy? What didn't they just leave? What was the huffing on oxygen about? Why did they have a tank of gas to begin with? Why didn't anyone turn on the lights? Why was mom so creepy? Why didn't mom's face move? Was this the actress's idea of acting or was it the director? What on earth was dad chopping in the yard? Why did they pick suck a depressing crappy house for a summer a vacation? Why didn't the Amish burn down the woods an salt the ground? Who wrote this crap? And why? Why didn't this make any sense whatsoever?

So many questions. No answers.

This could have been so much better.

Too confusing
andrealaurenmaria4 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I just watched this movie and I'm trying to see if I missed a deeper meaning, but its just your typical good vs evil plot which could be a good story for a movie, but this one is too confusing to enjoy the ride.I feel bad "putting" down a movie I'm sure lots of people put lots of hard work into it, but it just didn't hit the mark..for me at least. So hopefully this can be taken as constructive criticism. If anyone wants to have a movie going on in the background while you do laundry, or draw, or play a video game, this one would be great b/c the ambience isn't too bad. I'm going to put a spoiler here b/c I just have to get my thought about the ending out into the world. I think the big fire at the end is the entrance to hell and the weak people walk towards it, and the good people jump in their cars and drive away. ...but evil follows you anyway. Cheers!

Stay away from this - it's absolutely not worth your time!!
pgrieves26 July 2016
This is like The Channel that I accidentally watched a few months back. Why do directors and producers insist on making these "horrible" films. There is such a huge content of films in the history movie archives now that are solid films and yet some people still seem to think that "someone" would want to see this type of attempt at creating film. The actors were wooden, the story was lost and then drawn out...and there was nothing unhinging that happened? Stay away from this - it's another time wasting experience and one that will be forgotten because we have films like The Conjuring and Insidious that simply so far superior. Film makers like this - making films like this and The Channel need to think seriously about who they are exactly aiming the film at because he best part is when its over.

Where to start, it was horrible
jcroak-181749 May 2020
There were "surprises" toward the end that you figure out toward the beginning. It was a story of an amish guy that has a bad childhood and decides to take his family back there to relax for the summer. Everyone has problems and the whole movie was so boring and predictable. The end was stupid and you should treat yourself to a good movie and forget about this piece of garbage. The worst was the actress playing the mother, she just walked through the movie with absolutely no emotions at all. The character was an emotionless, cheating piece of garbage. A very bad movie.

I missed something!
Sexyjay715 December 2021
I have no idea what is going on in this movie. I watched it twice and I still can't figure it out. Are they harvesting humans or is Jacob human/ghost? I can not recommend the movie. I have waisted 3hrs trying to figure this movie out. The only reason I gave it 4 stars, is the acting. I thought they were all good especially the kids.

If you have trouble sleeping, this is your answer
rubyz-6790414 March 2020
I kept waiting for something to happen . The back and forth they did between past and present did keep me watching. This movie had so much potential. But I finally ended up watching just to see the end. And that was not worth it.

Boring but not horribad
RandomTard28 November 2021
First thing that was wrong was the sound balance. In the beginning there are super loud effects and then most the movie you can't hear anything. Of course no speaking can be heard at non lethal volume settings. Then in the end it gets very loud again, I guess it works as a way to wake up the audience that fell asleep watching this snoozefest but I would of much rather just kept sleeping - I had this dream where I was watching a lot better movie than this.

Great - Unique - Scary Movie.
Carlbthompson29 July 2016
First off, let me say that I LOVE scary movies... Not the chop em up type, but the type that build suspense and pull you in. This movie did exactly that! The setting where they filmed this movie (wherever it was) is a perfect setting for this flick. The characters brought into this film had such a great charisma together, it makes you wonder if they work together often... Without giving any spoilers, THE END WAS AMAZING! For a Low-Budget film such as this, its hard to find one that's well written AND well directed. It holds the kind of Music, and psychological thrills that you think about before going to bed. I wouldn't go camping after watching it! All in All a great film and a must watch, especially if you like these types of movies.

Decent 'folk horror.'
parry_na13 October 2018
Warning: Spoilers
After a prologue that is almost sunk by some uncertain acting, the film proper begins with Dinah (Elena Caruso) and Jake (Chris Conner) attempting to patch up their marriage by moving to Amish country. Inevitably, they bring with them their two young children. But worry not - no petulant brats here: Steven (Noah Headley) and Michaela (Accalia Quintana) are appealing, especially the little girl, whose genuine delight about the wide open spaces in their new home becomes something else entirely as the story moves on.

This low budget feature is, however, possibly too restrained in its imagery. Happy to be creepy rather than terrifying, that's fair enough - Director Ivan Kraljevic at least resists the monotony of constant jump-scares few films feel they could do without.

What we have is an enjoyable slow-burner that dips more than one toe into the 'folk horror' category. The nature of the horror, together with the location and the family's new neighbours provide a different spin on things. This, together with genuinely sympathetic characters, makes a superficially tame production worth seeing.

Different in storyline and idea but some part is inspired
Waheed-Anwar31 July 2017
Movie is new in idea, I do not think it is inspired by others in the market... but the theme music seems pretty much inspired - rather minor tuned from the original WT6LR theme... Acting is up to the mark especially when it comes to new artists... can spend good time by watching this movie

Fair movie with something missing
vldickens26 June 2020
I wish I could rate this movie higher because it's got good atmosphere, acting, and production, but it's missing something important. it's hard to put my finger on it, but the writing is weak. The fairly interesting characters spend a lot of time wandering around with very little to say and less to do. Still, it's worth watching if you've got an hour and a half that you don't mind wasting. I enjoyed it because, as a huge horror fan, I often find that good atmosphere can make up for deep flaws in a movie.

Great movie on many levels
info-0912729 July 2016
I really enjoyed this movie. While clearly made on a shoestring budget it has a higher production value feel, shown in the filming, score & overall sophistication. This may not be the horror movie for you if you're looking for cheap thrills, graphic gore and simple answers, and it's maybe one part horror to two parts psychological drama. It shines best in the awkwardness of the relationships, delivered as excellent & convincing performances by the actors, and makes great use of the 'lost in the past' qualities of Amish life. It does leave some questions unanswered but I think this is intentional, and secondary anyway to the deeper internal conflicts between good and evil.

Eerie Creepy Flick
andrea_martin31 July 2016
I like this movie, I wouldn't call it a traditional horror film but it is really eerie though. The movie was shot exceptionally well, it doesn't look like a low budget movie. There were some really beautiful sweeping shots of Amish country, which was the perfect setting for such a creepy tale. I didn't jump out of my seat, which is fine by me because I hate those types of cheap scares. There was definitely some stand out acting performances as well – I thought the kids were great. There is one scene with the little girl that has really stayed with me - totally creepy. The father character was good too, and then there was all of the Amish characters, they were good and they looked spot on.

Great Movie!
gaby-7701130 July 2016
Well paced and gripping in the way it gathers momentum through the movie. The photography is beautiful, the story is well directed and the actors give excellent performances. The music score supports the film well and is much better than you might expect for a low budget film. The story is a fascinating journey from light to dark with enough mystery to keep you guessing up to the end. I recommend it to fans of psychological dramas although hard core horror fans might find it lacking in gore. The film is well conceived and this first-time feature director definitely shows promise. Lastly, I enjoyed the Amish setting - you really feel transported there.

Witness The Harvesting.
morrison-dylan-fan1 October 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Checking the shelves of a local DVD shop,I spotted a recent looking Horror flick on sale for £1! Finding the movie to surprisingly be selling for a good price on Ebay,I decide to jump into the combine harvester.

The plot:

Wanting to get away from their reliance on digital tech and hoping to repair fracturing family issues, Dinah, Jake and their two kids Steven and Michaela decide to spend time in an Amish community. Unpacking their bags,Dinah begins to hear whispers from some in the community about a grisly event which took place years ago,the after effects of which are still strong enough for Dinah to be quietly told that her and the family should leave the place right now.Pushing the whispers aside,Dinah and Jake start to get stuck into rural life. Whilst their parents dig in the garden, the children begin to see an axe-welding Amish ghost (!) who wants to grow the kids into something special.

View on the film:

Crop-dusting in wide crane shots over the real "Amish Country" Lancaster, PA, editor/director Ivan Kraljevic & cinematographer Cody Cuellar weave a Folk Horror atmosphere pulled by Joel Douek ice-pic score. Limiting bursts of gore to the raw opening and the odd, mythical final crop, debuting (after working on blockbusters like Gangster Squad and the show Agent Carter) director Kraljevic slides on the Folk Horror canvas with ultra-stylised tracking shots following Dinah round the house, and making everything that (unaware to Dinah) moves in the background feel eerily close.

Sending the gang off for some family bonding in an isolated location, the screenplay by Ben Everhart is unable to completely escape from the shadow of The Shining, but Everhart does find room to give the family Drama a sharp turn by making the children the most knowledgeable about what is taking place, and also cleverly twisting the start for a tight fit ending that puts the family in the middle of the harvest. Trying to live the life of the Amish, Everhart wonderfully makes the already unique life style take a strange route by the Folk Horror mood making the lingering looks and restrained dialogue from the locals be mysteriously "off" as Dinah, Jake,Steven and Michaela become part of the harvest.

Amos is a Snack
jalvarez-7541210 January 2019
This movie is fantastic from begging to end, especially when you consider the budget. The film's score and shooting is superb. But if there's one thing that truly brings this film together, it's the superb acting by Jack Buckley, who play's Amos. Also doesn't hurt that he's an absolute snack.

Smart, solid movie making
bigsurotterx29 July 2016
I like little horror movies that aren't trying to be standard tits and gore. It's a low-budget movie that takes advantage of stuff that doesn't actually cost more but gains a lot for the viewer: acting, mood, camera work and mystery. The story is taken very seriously even though they couldn't dazzle with big effects or stars. If you took this same movie and put it in a multi-million dollar setting and swapped either of the kids with a Disney kid or either of the adults with a sitcom actor, you'd have a major Hollywood release without changing ANY of the content or crew.

Also, the Amish. Creepy bastards. Creepy on sight.

Worth a watch
trishmonyt31 January 2021
Something draws you in, there are alot of jump scares and its unpredictable. Its a sixth sense, meets the village. Definitely m. Night. Shyamalan impaired. I loved the twists at the end, but the 2nd last scene just... idk Something was off about it. But over all it kept my attention.

Good. Could have been great.
peterscotch21 October 2021
This is one of those films that if a scene here and a scene there could have been tweaked or done better this would be a really good film. It tries its best to do a M. Night Shyamalan or Shutter Island twist but cheats the viewer to get the end result. Where their clues are right in front of your face but you don't see it, this film uses vague hints or missing information , and then the AHA moment leaves you going, wait a minute. It's still worth a watch for it's sad and atmospheric mood. I mean, corn and woods are always creepy.
