CinemaTo be shot mostly in Hindi, the film will be a multi-lingual project and will feature actors across industries.Digital NativeDigital NativeIn January earlier this year, it was announced that actor Vikram will be part of Rs 300 magnum opus Karnan, to be directed by Rs Vimal, best known for helming Ennu Ninte Moideen. Soon after the announcement, Vikram took to Instagram to make the announcement and it was followed by a statement which confirmed the project will go on the floors from October this year and the release is planned for December 2019. To be shot mostly in Hindi, the film will be a multi-lingual project and will feature actors across industries. It has now been confirmed that will also be released in Tamil and it has been titled Mahaveer Karna. Originally planned with Prithviraj, the project was shelved last year after the producer opted out due to exorbitant budget. In a Times of India report, producer Venu was quoted saying: “When Karnan was announced, we planned to make it on a budget of Rs 60 crore. However, when we went forward with the film, I felt it would cost much more and that's the reason I withdrew.” The project has now been taken over by a New York-based company called United Film Kingdom which is ready to spend as much as it takes to get the film made. Vikram is currently shooting for Saamy Square, the sequel to his 2002 blockbuster Saamy. He also has Gautham Menon’s Dhruva Natchathiram in his kitty. The project will see him play a suave agent who is on the run for revenge. Vikram is also said to have signed a film in Kamal Haasan’s production, to be directed by Rajesh M Selva, which would go on the floors from the second half of the year. While not much is known about the genre of the film, the film will be a remake of a French flick. Akshara Haasan, last seen in Ajith’s Vivegam, has also been signed for this project. The rest of the cast is in the process of being finalized and the process will take a few months. Ghibran, who has worked with Haasan in films such as Vishwaroopam 2 and Uttama Villain, has been brought on board to compose the music. (Content provided by Digital Native)...

KollywoodReports indicate that filmmaker Rajesh M Selva is keen on roping in his mentor Kamal to play a significant but small role in the film.Digital NativeIt can be easily said, going by the line-up of his films, that 2018 could be the most exciting year in Vikram’s career in recent times. Having welcomed the year with the lukewarm success of Sketch, Vikram’s next release of the year will be Gautham Vasudev Menon’s spy thriller Dhruva Natchathiram. He will also begin working on Rs Vimal’s period drama Mahavir Karna, a multi-lingual mega budget film. It has also been confirmed that the star will team up with filmmaker Rajesh M Selva for a yet-untitled project in Kamal Haasan’s production which will go on the floors from the second half of the year. Kamal had tweeted a few days ago that the project will be a joint collaboration between Trident Arts and his production banner, Raajkamal Films International. While not much is known about the genre of the film, it is rumoured to be a remake of a French film. The latest update is that Kamal Haasan may play a cameo in the film, which also stars his younger daughter Akshara Haasan, who was last seen playing a hacker in Vivegam. This will be Akshara’s second Tamil film. According to reliable sources, Rajesh Selva is keen on roping in his mentor to play a significant but small role in the film. While Kamal is yet to officially sign on the dotted line, talks have been initiated with him. The rest of the cast is in the process of being finalised and the process will take a few months. Ghibran, who has worked with Kamal in films such as Vishwaroopam 2 and Uttama Villain, has been brought on board to compose the music. The project will be Rajesh M Selva’s second directorial. He made his directorial debut with Thoongavanam, a remake of French film Nuit Blanche. Rajesh has also assisted Kamal on Vishwaroopam 1 and 2 and on his action comedy Sabaash Naidu, which got shelved after Kamal fractured his leg and the shoot was stalled for many months. Bangalore is never likely to see Court, Chaitanya Tamhane's National award winning film about the paralyzing paradoxes of our legal system. On May 1 when Court was supposed to open in Bangalore, the film was forcibly stopped from screening, apparently because of legal issues. Dismayed director Chaitanya Tamhane protested, "The non-release in Bangalore has nothing to do with my film's content. What I'm told is that Marathi films are not released in Bangalore." Chaitanya however is not sure if his film could be said to be in Marathi alone. "My film is multi-lingual. Marathi is one of the languages spoken by the characters along with Hindi, English and Gujarati. But the censor certificate says the language of my film is Marathi. And there is a problem releasing Marathi films in Bangalore." Apparently, some local associations in Bangalore attack exhibitors who screen films in certain regional languages. Says Chaitanya, "No exhibitor wanted to take a risk.
