A study in contrast
sesht3 February 2015
Warning: Spoilers
(Screened as part of the myFrenchFilmFestival.com that is underway only on screens - the TV link does not work for most of the features and the shorts, no matter what anyone else might tell you).

Quite literally one of the shortest shorts I've seen, ever, this one says so much while showing just a snippet of what goes into examining an undocumented foreigner.

Her matter-of-fact responses (especially the non-verbal ones) convey all that we need to know (perhaps, the more sensitive ones among us) about what she thinks of / feels about what is being done to her.

The matter-of-fact reading into a voice recorder of the examiner (medical) serves both to let us know what's being done, and keeping the focus firmly on the lead also serves in trying to understand what she thinks of the whole thing, regardless of what she's responding with, which is being analyzed in any case, with us being privy to both.

The ending's a kinda kicker, as with most shorts, delighting in its irony, and staying with us more for examining that aspect in such a short duration.

Not to be missed, and it'd be great to have a debate session after.
