Producer of “Ordinary People” and “Funeral,” Glassriver has been building a voluminous development slate with standout series – Baldwin Z’s “Black Sands,” thriller “Polaris,” for example – being snapped up by prominent sales agencies.
A 2011 Intl. This is primo Pixar, a glorious feast for the eyes and heart, as satisfying as a family pasta Sunday supper. Bravo and brava to all involved in creating one of the year’s best films, the triumph that is Luca.” Read our review here.

Even charming sea monsters need to come of age sometime: such is the cute theme behind Enrico Casarosa’s feature directorial debut “Luca.” Following the success of his Oscar-nominated “La Luna” short, Casarosa has again teamed up with Pixar for an eye-popping new vision of young life in Italy. Set during an unforgettable summer on the Italian Riviera, the latest from Pixar centers on the bond between the titular 13-year-old protagonist (voiced by “Wonder” star Jacob Tremblay) and his best friend, Alberto (voiced by “Shazam’s” Jack Dylan Grazer).
And while that might sound like fertile ground for a Pixar feature, “Luca” comes with a twist: both of the boys are sea monsters who become human on land, where they share scooter rides, swimming, pasta, and gelato, while hiding their secret. As Casarosa recently told IndieWire, the film was inspired by his own coming of age and best pal. “‘Luca’ was about my best friend,...

"Wait - don't look at your phone!" Rock Salt Releasing has unveiled a new US trailer for an indie animated dark comedy from Argentina called Lava, the latest from filmmaker Ayar Blasco. This originally premiered back in 2019, but is only now getting a US release with a new English-language voice cast. Both versions will be out in the US in March. The near-future sci-fi follows Débora, a "lonely and ineffectual tattoo artist," and her friends as they try to stop and apocalypse. The film is a commentary on screen addiction, as people are entranced by messages on their devices. The new cast features Janeane Garofalo and Cedric Williams; the original Spanish-language voice cast is Sofía Gala Castiglione, Martín Piroyansky, and Justina Bustos. I'm always down for more "animation for adults" that explores crazy cool concepts. This looks fun. Here's the new US trailer (+ original poster) for Ayar Blasco's Lava, direct...

Giant cats, lasers, witches, violence and partial nudity fill the first English-language trailer for Crudo Film’s animated Argentine feature “Lava,” featuring the voice acting talents of Janeane Garofalo. Rock Salt Releasing, which is representing the over-the-top, end-of-the-world comedy thriller at this week’s EFM ahead of its March 15 premiere on major digital platforms, has given exclusive access to the trailer to Variety.
An outside-the-box hit at Annecy’s Contrechamp competition last summer, the film has since featured at several major international festivals including Argentina’s Mar Del Plata and Spain’s Sitges, where it screened in competition.

Pixar dropped the teaser trailer for “Luca,” the directorial feature debut of Enrico Casarosa (the Oscar-nominated “La Luna” short). It’s about an unforgettable summer on the Italian Riviera with the titular 13-year-old protagonist (voiced by “Wonder” star Jacob Tremblay) and his best friend, Alberto (voiced by “Shazam’s” Jack Dylan Grazer) — a sea monster. When Alberto becomes human on land, they’re able to share scooter rides, swimming, pasta, and Gelato.
Andrea Warren produces and the voice cast also includes Maya Rudolph; Emma Berman; Marco Barricelli; and Jim Gaffigan.
“Luca” continues Casarosa’s semi-autobiographical, coming-of-age saga that began with “La Luna” (also set in his seaside town before setting off on a lunar adventure). Like the short, “Luca” contains a colorful, handmade aesthetic. “I thought back to very important relationships in my life,” Casarosa told IndieWire. “‘La Luna’ was all about growing up with my dad and my grandfather,...

The Berlin International Film Festival’s European Film Market (EFM) has confirmed details for how its online incarnation will work March 1-5.
As Deadline revealed, Dennis Ruh took the reins at the EFM in September 2020 and faces an unconventional first edition.
“International sales agents have filled their lineups for the start of the year and have an attractive variety of films on offer. Many films are also currently in production and ready for pre-sales. We want the digital EFM in 2021 to be an impulse for a new beginning in the international film industry,” said Ruh today. “Since the EFM is an integral part of an international convention calendar, and therefore part of an economic system that includes events such as the Marché du Film in Cannes and the American Film Market in Los Angeles, a later date is not an option.”
