This 21-minute interview with iconoclastic character actor Harry Dean Stanton shows that Harry Dean is most definitely a singular character who marches to the beat of his own drum. Harry Dean firmly preaches the concept that things are predestined ("Everything happens the way it's going to happen"), those in charge aren't really running the show, man is nothing, and life in general sizes up as just a dream-like illusion. Moreover, Harry Dean notes that he when reads a film script the things he looks for in said script are good dialogue and intelligent writing. He also points out that great directors know their job and have a vision. In addition, Harry Dean talks a bit about his friendship with Marlon Brando and how the two shared similar beliefs about life. At one point Harry Dean even sings "Row Row Row Your Boat" while playing an acoustic guitar. While you might not agree with Harry Dean's beliefs, one must still admire the man for having the courage and conviction to live life his way. And remember folks, just be still and know.
