Sex & Nudity

  • It's suggested that the mom walks in on her son jerking off. Nothing shown though, other than bunched up tissues and references to the act ("won't you let me jerk off in peace?", "jizz", etc).
  • A couple of minor references: A man says a woman has a nice butt, a woman says she had to sleep with a man to procure a job, and a boy says he wants his single mother to hook up with the neighbor.

Violence & Gore

  • Steve is a violent kid, and his outbursts result in verbal and sometimes physical violence. In one scene he tries to choke his mother and she has to break a picture frame over his head for him to let go. Shocked by what just happened, he runs after his mother around the house with the intent to hurt her (he eventually calms down)
  • Steve threatens men in a bar with a broken beer bottle.

Profanity

  • Language used throughout. Many S words and a couple f words. All the profanities are in a different language.

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • All three main characters (Diane, Steve, Kyla) smoke at some point in the movie. Diane is constantly puffing on cigarettes while Steve smokes pot in a scene
  • Some wine/beer drinking with dinner. A scene takes place in a bar where people drink.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Steve's anger outbursts can be intense, as he is completely unpredictable. For instance, in one scene he gets angry at his mother and starts choking her while pinning her up against the wall. She takes a frame that was hanging up on the wall and hits her son over the head with it, and he starts chasing her around the house with the intent to cause her harm (she knocks over a bookshelf to prevent him from getting to her, giving her just about enough time to lock herself up)
