An Underrated Game That Came Out At the Wrong Time
NDbportmanfan11 November 2016
Let me just start off by saying that I didn't play the original Titanfall game as it was exclusive to the X-BOX. That being said I think this game wins out at least on the three way battle between Battlefield 1, and Infinite Warfare. The latter two are more well know and spend a whole lot more money on advertising so Titanfall 2 was kind of forgotten on its release.

The campaign's story is pretty straight forward and the missions use the game's mechanics quite well. There are moments when your entire terrain can be flipped and you must navigate through. Those are probably my favorite parts in the game. It is just stunning watching it happen. Combat is... well now that I think about it was a piece of cake. I played on the Hard difficulty and the regular soldiers were pretty useless. I could honestly run around and melee them all out. The robotic enemies posed more of a challenge but not by much. The titan battles in the campaign were fun for the most part. There are some annoying instances like titan mobility in closed spaces but even that is a big deal. The only real downside to the story is that is too short! I didn't track it but I think it took me between 5-7 hours to complete. I know they are focused on multiplayer and everything but we need an expanded story for Titanfall 3.

The game does well with the titan and pilot interactions. You get two options of dialogue and that sets up the one liners and other humorous gags. If EA continues to build the franchise; (you know they will) I think Jack and BT could be compared to the relationship of Cortana and Master Chief.

The multiplayer is great and actually has replay value. I am not a big fan of multiplayer but this one actually looks cool. I like the whole idea of pilots vs. titans feel. It felt fun and fresh trying to evade titan gunfire while also going after other pilots. Again I didn't play the first one but from what I have heard there wasn't titan customization as there are 6-8 different titan classes to choose from. Each one has their own strategic advantage and disadvantage so the playing field feels level. There are also more modes in multiplayer which is always a plus.

So Titanfall 2 is a big step up from its predecessor. It know includes a campaign and multiple modes and customization on their multiplayer. If you are looking for a great first person shooter this year this is the game to get.

The game Titanfall 1 should have been
residentgrigo13 April 2017
It's a bit ironic that Infinite Warfare and Titanfall 2 came out in the same month due to the similar setting + gameplay and connected development teams. The more daring Titanfall 2 ultimately takes the lead as it has one of the most memorable singleplayer campaigns in the shooter scene this decade. The vapid story makes no sense whatsoever and some of the extremely varied mechanics could have been used longer too as the game constantly jumps in style. No other grievances exist though but the campaign is on the shorter side (using the hardest difficulty lead to an 7 hour game). The multiplayer is basically the same as last time, just with more mech variety. I honestly had my fill last time, as there were no other modes previously, and the majority of shooter gamers seem to share my opinion. It's certainly fun for a few rounds though. I hope that the series will get a 3rd chance, as the sales weren't too impressive, but Titanfall now fully proved itself as worth new IP. 8,5/10

A Titan Legend!!!
toolman-0735619 November 2016
This game is so close to perfect its unreal, unlike its predecessor, Titanfall 2 has a single player campaign. Its also for PS4 this time around, although I'm reviewing this from my xbox 1 experience. The campaign is short only 6 hours, but its full of jaw dropping action, stunts, wall running and boost jumping fun! You are rifleman Jack cooper, after your commanding officer is KIA, you must take control of his titan(mech) BT-7274, a loving, funny and all around awesome buddy. Its up to you both to team up, and save the universe. Multiplayer is amazing once again with its fast paced, fluid and 60fps greatness. Tons of customization and modes to choose from. Leveling up is nice and easy, 6 different titan loadouts to choose, plenty of weapons and abilities to unlock. Plus in the near future, EA has insured us that all DLC and maps will be FREE OF CHARGE! so get out there and rent it, buy it cause this game is 1 of a kind!

This Is My Favourite Game!!!
jackdayz6 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Incredible. Titanfall 2 is an Amazing game I can't recommend it enough it is a true Masterpiece.

Titanfall 2 has flowing gameplay that just feels great with new abilities, great matchmaking, So Many Crazy Gamemodes and an Incredibly Fun Campaign.

The Campaign The campaign of Titanfall 2 is while cliché, it uses that to its advantage, the game's campaign focus is on gameplay, you and your titan Bt-7274. The game allows you to build a connection between Bt with dialogue choices which helps the ending of the game and Bt's... sacrifice. The gameplay of Titanfall 2 really shines with the level design of Titanfall 2, they all are unique in their own way, such as if not all the walls were still, or if you had a time travelling device meaning you'd have to switch time periods to get through the parkour and switching between enemies. However one criticism is the enemy titan AI is not that challenging and can be beaten pretty easily and the bosses are just bullet sponges.

The Multiplayer Multiplayer in Titanfall 2 is even Better then the campaign with a great customisation pilot and class titan systems. It's a great mix making the game have better balance as its not you just got to choose one titan gun and titan type and done you win. You've got to get good with your titan and know when to use it. and easily one of the Greatest thing is their is No Micro-Transaction System. When you want to buy something you know what your buying instead of not knowing like all other Fps games.

In Conclusion Amazing game, great visuals, great story Incredible Multiplayer.

P.S sorry this review was a bit rushed for the multiplayer.

A Godly FPS
TheDragonfly4420 May 2019
Warning: Spoilers
This is probably the best fps game I've ever played. Not only is the story and the relationship between BT and Cooper spectacular, the gameplay is consistently enjoyable, not once was I not having fun. Even during the somewhat (not really) challenging boss fights it was fun. The gameplay is amazing. Where the exo suits didn't work in CoD, it fits with Titanfall 2 perfectly and just works on so many levels. My only real gripe with this game is who in the hell thought it was okay for BT to die twice. What a monster.

My Preferred Shooter of 2016 (Should Have Been GOTY)
authoricrose18 December 2016
Warning: Spoilers
Slight spoilers ahead!

If you told me that the follow-up to the multiplayer only game "Titanfall" would shatter my expectations, I would have laughed in your face. And now, after logging in over 100 hours of gameplay in the first two weeks, I can safely say that the game is incredibly fun.

Let's start with the story. On paper it's not that original. A foot soldier is promoted in the field to replace a Pilot, and is given a Titan (giant mech for those uninformed). They then uncover a super-weapon and team up with the SRS Militia to stop it from being used.

What really gives it weight is the character development of your Titan, and the interactions between BT-7274 and your pilot character, Jack Cooper. It's one or two dialogue options that don't really affect the story, but the humor is top notch, and the serious tones are never too angsty. Even when BT is describing his career with his dead pilot, it's very factual, and not overly dramatic or shoved in your face.

Controls are about as fluid as they come, and wall running and double jumping feel slightly easier this time around to me. Titanfall lost me when I couldn't wall run in the tutorial. I tried and tried again, and could never do it. My first wall run in the SP campaign... I did it with flying colors and landed the jump with room to spare.

In addition, boss fights against other Titans add a level of challenge that I loved as well. Some could be easier (*Viper*), but each of them is beatable if you know their style of fighting.

As for multiplayer, I've heard complaints that the game is too slow. It may be slower than Titanfall, but I find it's still a fast paced game. It's about five times faster than Battlefield 1, and much slower than Infinite Warfare. I find it strikes a nice balance of speed, while still giving players time to react.

I haven't found a weapon that isn't interesting, or fun to use. Aside from the R-201's accuracy over range, the strengths and weaknesses are all fair in my eyes. For example, the Kraber is a one shot sniper, but the bullet drops rather hard over range. The Hemlok BF-R is now a burst fire assault rifle, and it can one burst if fired correctly, but suffers from a decreased fire rate compared to other weapons.

Titans have changed the most, in that they no longer start with shields. In order to get one, you must have a battery, or a friendly player with a battery (which they get from landing a rodeo on an enemy titan the first time) must rodeo you and give it to you in a scripted animation.

There are also six distinct Titan classes in this game, whereas the original had three chassis models and multiple weapon options. Though I play mostly "Tone" I have tried all of them and find them all to be viable in their distinct play styles.

All in all, Titanfall 2 is my favorite of this year's shooter offerings. It's a departure from the original in some ways, but I find many of those differences to be an advantage. At least try it, and if it isn't your type of game, then so be it.

One of the best campaigns I've ever played!
natedeathwing12 August 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Pilot Cooper, Titan BT-7274 and the rest of the Militia, embark on a war against the IMC, trying to disable the Ark, a Death Star type device, from destroying their army as a whole. All in all, this game was one of the best games I've ever played. The parkour and visual dynamics were always fun to see, the bond between Cooper and BT was unique, and gameplay grips you so much that you could probably go on for hours at a time. It was a great privilege to play Titanfall 2...

Man and Machine Steal the Scene
hydroshock-8447815 May 2019
I didn't have high expectations for Titanfall 2. Not because I had doubts, but I just didn't know what to expect. Being a PlayStation gamer, I didn't get to play the first entry, so I was surprised up in finding out that a PS4 release was included for this game. Instead of it being "just another shooter," it became one of my favorite multiplayer experiences.

It's also a nice surprise that a campaign is included unlike in the first game. And while it only lasts about 6 hours, it was fun. Very fun. Sure, it may feel cliche at times, but most of it was unique, action-packed, and enjoyable. The mix between pilot and Titan gameplay worked in the campaign just as well as it does in multiplayer. It may not be long enough to get you too attached to the characters, but it is definitely worthwhile, so I suggest not skipping it.

The multiplayer, however, is the reason to get this game. It is fast-paced, intense, and works well with teamwork. It may look Call of Duty-ish at first, but there are many ways players can work with teammates to succeed. In terms of content, guns are a bit on short supply, but there are ample maps and game modes, as well as seven Titans to choose from, and lots of customization. The game will keep you entertained for a while. Best of all, the DLC is all free.

So what is Titanfall 2 in one word? Awesome. It isn't perfect, as the campaign could have been longer, and the overall gameplay is a bit repetitive, but I have enjoyed it more than any Call of Duty game. It is a shame it didn't sell well, but at least it won the hearts of many gamers and nearly won the GOTY award. Highly recommended, 9/10.

Pros:
  • Good story & some interesting characters
  • Great fast-paced gameplay
  • Intricate level design
  • Challenging enemy ai
  • Good variety of weapons
  • Fun multiplayer

Cons:
  • Storyline can be abit predictable
  • Some forgettable side characters

Verdict: This may look like a run of the mill Call of Duty-esk sci-fi shooter, but it is so much better than that. Underrated gem imo.

Campaign only
erlenddammsoeby15 January 2024
Do note that this is solely based on the campaign.

Quick breakdown: + Pretty great graphics (for an almost 8 y.o game).

+ Fairly smooth controls, + The fights were entertaining.

  • Very short, played through in less than 10 hours.

  • Story not very fleshed out
  • Dialogue options only prompted different replies (jokes vs "serious"). No consequences.

  • Very repetitive, but being so short it didn't get old.

  • Didn't get increasingly difficult. No character buildup, no HP/def/atk increase, just unlocked new weapon kits.

  • Story a bit of a lackluster.

All in all, feels like they could've done more.

One Of The Most Exhilarating Games I Have Played
sebastianbr11 March 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Titanfall 2, developed by Respawn Entertainment, is a game I enjoyed playing to the fullest, and still do enjoy playing. The game as a whole takes place where they are more advanced, and use technology such as "titans", or mech-style robots that are neurologically linked to their "pilots", that can also think and do actions on their own. Both the campaign and multiplayer are played in first-person. In the campaign, you play from the view of Jack Cooper, a Militia soldier who dreams of becoming a pilot, or one who gets a neuro-link with a titan. Towards the beginning of the campaign, you get promoted to pilot after a deadly and sad encounter with bounty hunters, and throughout the campaign you can find powerful weapons and unlock unique titans due to the titan you currently are linked to, all of which have their own unique pros and cons. The end, which I do not want to spoil, is quite a tear jerker, but the campaign as a whole is very fun and action-packed, especially the boss fights against Apex bounty hunters. The campaign can take 6 hours if you just go forward through the story, but can take up to to 9 hours if you plan on going through the game at a leisurely pace, but at least the storyline and plot are great. For the multiplayer, I would say that the weapons, pilots, and titans are balanced, or that they have even statistics for the type of weapon they are. Each pilot has a unique ability or suit perk, such as a grapple hook or speed boost, and the titans each have their own unique weapons and "cores" that can be used when a "core meter" has been filled up. In my opinion, the multiplayer is enticing due to the vast selections of weapons and pilot-titan combinations. There are multiple game modes you can try out, or you can even create a mixtape of multiple game modes, such as team-deathmatch (TDM) or last pilot / titan standing. The game can be played in 3840x2160 4K 60 FPS maximum. Of course, if you felt like it, you could play with potato graphics and experience what it would be like to play the game in the lowest graphics settings possible. There are a few button layout presets that you can choose from for both the campaign and multiplayer, all of which depends on the player and how they like to play. The soundtrack is amazing and adds to both campaign and the multiplayer, such as when you encounter a boss in the campaign, or have to retreat in the multiplayer.

An overall excellent gaming experience that integrates fast-paced parkour into a fluid combat system, complete with giant mechs. What's not to love?
hennothank1 February 2017
Having been a Titanfall veteran from the beginning, I was hesitant what they would do with a campaign, or the new titans, or pilots, or anything in general, but Respawn did not disappoint. The campaign, although short, tells a gripping story with many unique aspects put in that led me to play through the campaign more than once. The multiplayer, however, is even better. One of my favorite additions is sliding, which although doesn't sound like much on its own, makes the game's already excellent movement system even more fluid. All of the new abilities, the weapons, the grenades, all feel like real additions ad give one a lot more choice for finding the perfect play style than other games. And the titans... I originally thought only have 6 titans with limited customization was a bad idea, but upon using them, I find it to be much more fun, as you get to choose one that perfectly fits your play style, and also know how to deal with what you are going against. Overall, it is rare for a sequel to improve on the original in every way, but this is a rare exception. 10/10

Amazing
ilaybushira12 November 2020
Maybe the story is a little predictable and lackey, some of the characters are not that compelling, but it does deliver a nice execution of it. The game is HIGHLY engaging with creative action, the whole use of titans and the weapons, the level design and more. The main highlights in the presentation are the explosion effects and many of the fights execution, since, as I wrote before are very creative. If there is another issue with the game is that there are not many titans to play with and they are all look the same with many of the same weapons that can make them a bit repetitive. But, again, the execution of it is nice by connecting it to the main plot.

At the end: this is an amazing game that is very unlucky that not a lot of people played or heard of, especially with that stupid decision if E. A. But, again, at least there are other people like me that can HIGHLY recommend you playing it. It does have some minor problems with the story, characters and the titans are not very creative, but they are all minor problems comparing to that gem!

Best FPS Since Halo Reach

The Best FPS Since Halo Reach

Yeah, this game is a masterpiece in the FPS genre. Th gameplay is incredible, the gun play feels good, Titan combat is epic, and the wall running is addictively fun. You feel like a super soldier in this game and it is just too good. You have to experience this game play.

Graphically this game is beautiful. It looks great, the FPS is great, and the art style and world design is actually really cool.

As a sci-fi universe this game has great world building and interesting lore. Think space colonization and frontier planets with faction wars and military drama.

The campaign... is one of the best FPS campaigns, again since reach. Wow it is good! Boss battles, great and diverse level design, a good story, with some really touching moments. This is a must play for sure!

I just want Titanfall 3 from Respawn.

Also quick comment on Respawn, they are the best thing EA has going for them. This studio gave us Titanfall 1-2, Apex, and Starwars Jedi Fallen Order. What a quality studio!

You, me and BT.
Pjtaylor-96-13804427 March 2020
'Titanfall 2 (2016)' is a great first-person shooter. Its fast, fluid movement and precise, satisfying gun-play combine for an incredibly enjoyable experience. The campaign does a wonderful job of balancing the time you spend on foot with the time you spend in your Titan, an intelligent battle robot. These aspects feel distinct from one another, primarily in terms of speed and firepower. However, they are ultimately inseparable and are a large part of what makes the piece so successful overall. The story itself goes to great lengths to ensure you're connected to your specific Titan, BT, by giving him a distinct personality and allowing you limited yet important dialogue choices. It's a real 'buddy cop' situation and it works really well; you actually care about the hunk of metal. The plot is typical 'rookie becomes master' type stuff, filled with cliché mercenaries and 'save the world' stakes. Yet, it fits the game's aesthetic like a glove and is bizarrely satisfying, to boot. It's just fun. As is the multiplayer, which makes excellent use of its somewhat asymmetrical central dynamic. The time to death isn't too low, there are a variety of Titans to choose from and the on-foot movement is as quick and easy as it is in the campaign. Overall, the game is one of the best recent entries in its genre. 8/10

One Of The Best Sci-Fi Games Ever
therealjameshitson11 February 2024
Titanfall 2 is an underrated masterpiece. If you haven't played it before, you have to try it.

The campaign is spectacular, unique, and emotional, and the bond between Jack and BT is amazingly well done. The multiplayer is endlessly replayable, and each match feels different.

Back to the campaign for a minute, the only gripe I have is that it's too short. Not even 7 hours on the highest difficulty. But, what it does with that time is incredible. Jack and BT bond realistically, with Jack learning how to be a pilot, and BT gaining more humanity as it goes on. They have great banter and some genuinely funny one-liners. The only lackluster boss is the very first one, being a bit lame in comparison to even the grunts later in the game, but other than that, they are all excellent.

The multiplayer has tons of options for every aspect of your loadout. I have still found new ways to play after 5 years. This game is more than deserving of your time.

short but great
luisgus-722689 October 2023
Titanfall 2 is def an experience that all gamers should try. The story is simple and feels almost like a well written COD game but the game play is super fun with a mix of a shooter and a portal type of feel with the challenges the game presents.

The game is short with no customization or a need to grind either but short does not mean bad, its action packed from the get go and the two protagonist are fun to listen to. This game is a gem and I am looking forward to a part 3 because I cant get enough.

The fights are fun, the enviroment is challenging and the boss fights are just perfect in terms of difficulty.
