The Dross Squad
Suradit7 October 2015
The story revolves around a wager between some older boys and the three younger central characters. In order to put the bullying of the latter to rest, the younger boys accept a challenge to stay in an allegedly haunted house overnight on Halloween. This will supposedly demonstrate their bravery and earn them eternal respect from the older boys. Originality or credibility are certainly not the movie's strong points.

The characters are two dimensional. There is nothing remotely funny or frightening in the movie. The special effects are neither special nor convincing. Even the youngest viewer would probably be bored.

The actors at times attempt to inject a little enthusiasm into their roles, but for the most part they seem to be left to drift through an uninspired and tired screenplay.

made it easier to get my work done

Google play had this title out free of charge recently.....no wonder why. This title was incredibly uninteresting and was not a spooky, funny, or dramatic film. I do normally like a few of the actors that were in this film but by god this movie is bad. All that I got out of the movie itself was the knock off Zack Gallifinakus or whatever looking son of a bitch has a dead wife or something and the napoleon dynamite guy works at a copy center and is a hipster. This is a great motivating tool at work because nobody will sit and watch it and will all work.

Thank you, Scott

Kids want a fun ghost-filled adventure? Don't watch this movie!!

Warning: Spoilers
I remember now. It was 2016, I was almost ten years old, and back then I would watch anything that was on the screen. Sadly, one of those movies was this one. At first glance, Ghost Squad promises a paranormal comedy romp with heart and humor, but that's not what you get with this movie. In the opening credits, we see all manner of different monsters like the one's in Goosebumps including ghosts, aliens, and even a giant praying mantis like in that film. As a kid, this intro was hype and had me thinking these monsters would appear. How naive I was. Instead, all we get are three losers sitting in a condemned building with the monster, turning out to be of all things, the ghost of a Herman Shepard that belonged to the mafia. This would be a good idea for a sidekick villain in any other movie, but this is really what our protagonists trifle with and later become friends with. What a disappointment this was for nine year old me. On top of that the movie is also incredibly tedious and will make anyone over the age of twelve tap out after thirty minutes. So if you're looking for a supernatural comedy for the whole family, go watch Goosebumps instead, and avoid this garbage.

Perfect intro to horror for little ones, if you're That Parent, like I am.

GHOST SQUAD is not a breathtaking work of staggering genius, nor does it appear to be designed to be. It is, however, a fairly fun romp and taste of the supernatural perfect for young kids (or older ones) who aren't ready to go full-steam ahead in this genre. The scares are gentle, for lack of a better term, with just enough thrill to keep kids engaged.

The film follows young friends off to spend the night in a haunted house after a dare by their local bully. That's standard old-school fare, but the film gives it a nice update. This is not IT nor STRANGER THINGS, but the performances are admirable on the part of all the kids involved.

There is what feels like a rather forced subplot and theme about dads and sons, but a surprisingly gruff showing by SNL alum Kevin Nealon actually sells the idea pretty well -- again, for the primary audience. The script is not shabby at all, though the pacing is off; not *slow,* but off. The performances keep the film going even though the central storyline takes a bit to find its feet.

Overall, GHOST SQUAD is genuine and heartfelt and even pulls off a pretty cute ending that hits the right note for any fretful parents.

GHOST SQUAD is not recommended for adults, and nor are they its intended audience. It's a polished version of the Goosebumps TV show from days of yore, and a less scary version of the modern, updated films with Jack Black. If your kids aren't ready for that film, GHOST SQUAD is a perfect place to start.

solid flick for kids

HEY EVERYBODY ITS ME (4) and today we review ..........goonies 2 : electric boogaloo ....the movie !!!!!!!!!!

Though not as epic scaled as goonies ......this for sure has a kind of throw back feel of that film, for a few reasons ...one of the biggest being this movie is about growing up, over coming fear and coming out brave and triumphant .......the goonies as well was about all that ......

this movie though kept it small to one central location - a haunted house , where as the goonies was all over the place just running around

NOW this film was a fun kids movie, i didnt realize that until i already started it lol.... but thats okay it reminds you of the days after school watching goosbumps on fox kids .... this has its "oohhhh scary" but obviously not at all scary moments going on .... so for younger kids absolutely a great film , for older horror heads like myself ...absolutely not a great film lol.... the kids actually acted great, better in fact that 90% of the indie films and low budget films / sci fi channel films you see all the time .... heck "the asylum" studios should just call up these kids to star in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE THEY MAKE from now on ............because they did a solid job .......the FX were cheesy sure BUT again ...kids horror film .... so ... they are meant to be FUN not scary ...

dont expect people getting their heads cut off while the mini ghost busters here scooby doo it around the house .......because its not happening ......just classy kid humor with some basic story plot going on nothing fancy .... i actually expected MORE plot wise, like for them to discover some money hidden or something ANYTHING else ..... but instead they just kept the story in a straight line , didnt waver in the slightest ......

the basics to take away here , they were trying to drive home some moral points , stand up to bullies , and dont be too hard on your kids to be like you ...etc ...so under tones plot points going on ....but honestly none of that was very impactful , it all felt kind of empty , like the bullies ...did they really learn anything ? ... i mean ..in the end they SEEMED to respect the kids but really ? ....just thats it .....a little scare to them from the window and now its like "hey these kids are some bad mofos lets respect them " ............i dont know ... and the girl learned its okay to be different and weird suddenly by talking to the other kids dad , and the dad just after how ever many years became a completely different guy to his son .... you know its like in one single night EVERYONE in the entire town just flip flopped lol....like some batman villain came along and put something in the cities water supply ..... riddle them that batsy ..........

all and all it would be a fun flick to watch with your kids on a halloween night if you have little ones around 4-8 ish ......once they turn 9 ....well its time for good ol texas chainsaw massacre !!!!!!!!

8/10

OH and the interaction between the dad and "todd" cracked me up ....so good job writers ........

Great family and teen movie around Halloween
neuroepidr20 October 2022
I just came across this movie. Great little storyline. Loved the setting. The special effects, and story from start to finish. I do not want to say to much, but loved about the story, but great to see smaller younger boys and one with a crush to overcome bullies and come out on top with a ghostly theme. It is a great family movie for all ages. The scares are creative, not to scary for younger ones. But enough for Halloween for older teens. The special effects, themed music, and actors were believable, like you were there. It is great to see adults, remember what it is like to be a young teen. Something for adults to learn as well. Again, with a cool Halloween theme. I highly recommend this movie.
