Is the movie bad or the satire not clear?

Warning: Spoilers
Just saw Date of the Dead on Amazon Prime. B-rated movies are a guilty pleasure of mine. I love their campiness. DotD definitely had a lot of that.

Overall it was a solid movie. Parts of the sub-genres the film was supposed to include are advertised in the synopsis incorrectly. The synopsis said there was a part with zombies, a part about slashers, and a home invasion part (which does kind of happen). None of these sub genres are really true. Maybe that's the genius in the film? Who the Hell knows? The zombies are just drunk ex girlfriends of a man whore. The slasher was a straight nerdy guy who is tricked into kissing a gay male cheerleader who then gets revenge by having sex with the other cheerleaders who tricked him. The home invasion is just an awkward couple on a first date whose home isn't invaded, two of their friends (in creepy masks) are just trying to make sure their blind date goes well. So I don't know if DotD is being satirical on the horror genre or was just a bad movie.

Zit face ruins it

It's terribly filmed (after opening scene which was well done), the acting is awful, the storys for a cheap anthology aren't bad. The main heroine with the terrible makeup job, hiding her god awful zits and acne ruins every scene with her more then the acting IMO.

Painful to watch, just plain horrible

It's badly written, the acting is worse and the most consistent point is that the writer has some sort of deep seated issue with women. The stories themselves are not even scary at all which is a shame. That could of at least saved this flick but alas that wasn't the case here. Especially the last story was a big okay WTH is going on here. Then it ends with a twist and you thought it would be a revenge film. Most of the actors in the film only have one or two movies under their belt. So I can't blame them too much. Though I've seen some other b rated movie with better acting than what I saw in this film.

Cheap horror trio
Leofwine_draca16 September 2017
Warning: Spoilers
DATE OF THE DEAD is an indie horror anthology shot in Arizona and consisting of three separate tales, none of which are good. The whole thing feels geared towards comedy which may be a result of the hokey, low budget feel to the thing. The stories are also indistinguishable from one another which is always a bad sign. The first tale tells of a home invasion on a very small and uninteresting scale. The second is a barely existent slasher flick with a little nudity and titillation. Finally, we get a zombie outing without any actual zombies. You can guess the overall comedy.

A very different zombie movie indeed...

I stumbled upon the 2015 movie "Date of the Dead" in late 2019, and given my fascination and interest in all things zombie, I immediately picked up a copy of this movie and sat down to watch it.

Now, first and foremost I must say that this is a low budget movie; a B-movie if you will. But that is not necessarily always a bad thing. And in the case of "Date of the Dead" it was actually an enjoyable thing, because it added to the enjoyment of the movie. This was fully a wholeheartedly project where everyone involved poured their hearts and efforts into, and it showed on the screen.

The storyline is a campy twist on the classic zombie outbreak blueprint that has been used countless times in movies throughout the years. Was it silly? You betcha. But it was still very enjoyable and entertaining.

"Date of the Dead" uses low practical effects, and while it is cheesy and fake, it does actually work well enough in favor of the movie, because it brings a smile to the lips. And it just works wonderfully in the offbeat atmosphere that permeates the entire movie.

The acting in the movie was actually good, taking into consideration the level of the movie and the entire project. I wasn't familiar with anyone on the cast list, but it was clear that people were enjoying themselves in participating in the movie.

This is not your average zombie movie, and I will actually say that "Date of the Dead" is a wonderful offbeat and alternate addition to the zombie genre, which tends to be flooded with stagnant movies of questionable production value and equally questionable entertainment value and zombie make-up.

If you enjoy zombie movies and want something goofy for a change, then you should sit down and watch "Date of the Dead".

My rating of "Date of the Dead" is a solid six out of ten stars.
