The film was originally conceived around 2007 but was shelved after an attempted shoot in 2010. Later, then band-mate Charlie Draper (Adam) convinced director William Wallace to make the film. Whilst the majority of the shoot took place in February-March 2012, the project was plagued with cast conflicts and technical mishaps and ultimately took two years to complete.
Hugo Edbrooke (Ashley) wears a wig for the scenes within the commune as he had cut his long hair in between the shoots which were over a year apart. The wig was also worn by actor Sam Tokely and director William Wallace to double his character as he was only available for a small time during the films pick up shoots.
Cast and crew lived in the woods, owned by the family of Hugo Edbrooke (Ashley) for several days during the original shoot and went nearly unfed by the first time director.
Hugo Edbrooke was originally cast as Freddy before filling in for the role of Ashley, originally given to Kristian Wightwick who would star in William Wallace's next short film. Sam Tokely took on the role as a favour. This is significant as Hugo's long hair would have meant his silhouette would have been much closer to Mark Greening's leading to the confusion of the characters in the end of the film as intended in the original script.
The film was shot on 4 different cameras in total. The primary shoot used a JVC miniDV format camera borrowed from college, latter scenes were shot on actor India McKenzie's DSLR when equipment was no longer permitted to be lent to students for outside projects, the opening was shot on a Bell & Howell Super8mm camera (which given it was digitised with a Canon 5D would in fact mean 5 cameras were used) and a single shot of the moon was taken on a Panasonic handycam.
