Look who’s in the bread line after pilot season!
Lots of exciting stars will join the broadcast TV lineup this fall (Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer, Tea Leoni, Ioan Gruffudd) but an equal amount were left jobless after the networks announced their schedules last week in New York. Here’s who (and what projects) we will miss now that the upfronts are over:
Anthony Lapaglia. Last seen: Without a Trace. Rejected fall pilot: Field of Play, a CBS drama about a retired CIA operative pulled back into action.

Over a year after they parted ways following the series finale of "30 Rock," Tina Fey and Jane Krakowski are teaming up for another NBC comedy.
Krakowski just joined "Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt," which is being co-produced by Fey and fellow "30 Rock" showrunner Robert Carlock. The series follows Kimmy (played by "The Office" alum Ellie Kemper), who's recently escaped from a religious cult and moved to New York City to experience real life for the first time.
Krakowski will appear in a supporting, recurring role as an uptight Upper West Side mother for whom Kimmy nannies. The actress joined the project after her Fox pilot, "Dead Boss," was not picked up to series. She replaced Megan Dodds, who played the character in one scene in the "Kimmy" pilot; the scene will be re-shot.
This isn't Krakowski's first time replacing an actress in an already-picked-up pilot; she also did the same for "30 Rock,...

It’s a 30 Rock reunion! I’ve learned that 30 Rock alumna Jane Krakowski has joined the cast of upcoming NBC comedy series Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt, from 30 Rock creator/star/executive producer Tina Fey and executive producer Robert Carlock. Krakowski will recur on the project, starring Ellie Kemper as the wide-eyed Kimmy who, after 15 years of living in a cult, decides it’s time to reclaim her life and heads to New York. Krakowski will play a rich Upper West Side mom who hires Kimmy as a nanny. I hear the casting came together very quickly after Fox last Wednesday opted not to proceed with Krakowski’s comedy pilot Dead Boss. The character only has one scene in the pilot where it was played by Megan Dodds. After swiftly closing a deal with Krakowski, I hear the scene was reshot and will be featured in the trailer for the series at today’s NBC upfront presentation.

Hgtv was planning on airing a new house-flipping show, Flip It Forward. However, following a revelation by Right Wing Watch that the proposed show’s hosts had a history of religious bigotry, stalking an abortion doctor and anti-gay activities like protesting pride celebrations. Hgtv has cancelled the show.
Let’s start with the good news. Despite rumors that Fox might give in to the powerful influence of producer Seth MacFarlane, Fox has decided to cancel the offensive, unfunny Dads. Unfortunately, there’s also bad news — the promising and endearing Enlisted (also the Chris Meloni sitcom Surviving Jack, which inspired strong feelings in few people). In worse news for comedy, the network also passed on two promising-sounding pilots, Dead Boss and Fatrick. Fatrick reunited Ray Ford with Don’t Trust the B—- in Apartment 23 creator Nahnatchka Kajhan. Dead Boss was a remake of a British comedy with Jane Krakowski and Amy Sedaris.

Fox is lining up a veritable murderers' row of comedy actors for their upcoming Dead Boss pilot, from Jane Krakowski to Amy Sedaris to Ratch Dratch to virtually anyone else they hire at this point. There is no way the casting director is going to make a mistake with this kind of track record. Hiring David Cross is just the latest excellent decision made by the network; the Arrested Development star is set to play the deceased supervisor himself, a "narcissistic, credit-stealing, misogynistic" gentleman by the name of Derek Bridges. Hopefully we'll be provided a lot of flashbacks, or at the very least a spectacular murder scene.

Barry Sonnenfeld is poised to direct Fox‘s half-hour pilot Dead Boss, from Wbtv and Aaron Kaplan’s Kapital Entertainment. An adaptation of the BBC3 series, Dead Boss is a comedic mystery that finds overachiever Helen Stephens (Jane Krakowski) wrongfully convicted of murdering her boss and forced to rely on her train wreck of a sister (Justine Lupe) to prove her innocence. This marks a reunion for Sonnenfeld and Kaplan — Sonnenfeld directed former agent Kaplan’s first pilot as a producer, ABC comedy Funny In Farsi. The Man In Black helmer most recently directed the CBS’ Beverly Hills Cop pilot last season.

Actor-comedian Paul F. Tompkins (Comedy Bang! Bang!) will star opposite Molly Shannon in ABC’s single-camera comedy pilot from creator Brian Gallivan, Sony TV and Olive Bridge Prods. It centers on an overworked father (Tompkins) dreaming of being “on vacation all year” who decides to uproot his family from the city and move them to New Hampshire, where they open a group of tourist cottages but rarely, if ever, feel like they’re on vacation. Shannon plays his wife. Also cast in the pilot is Tessa Albertson as the couple’s older daughter. Repped by Innovative/Mksd.
