Destined to be a cult classic

I can't imagine anyone who has watched the previews for this movie going into it expecting cinematic greatness. We knew it would be absurd, silly, juvenile, and campy. What we didn't know was that it would be such a fun, lighthearted, easy night. Maybe we were just lucky. Our theater was packed full of 7-25 year old boys, primarily teens. When Steve showed up and announced his name to the cast, our theater erupted in cheers. They laughed at everything and clapped at the end. It was hard not to be moved by their energy. Look, this movie is silly. The plot is silly. The acting is silly. Jack Black sings songs I think he made up in the shower. But we had a much needed really fun night out. So a big thank you to all involved with this movie.

Plain fun

My daughter took me for my 67th birthday,I've never played the game or even seen anyone play it. But I have to say I had a good time. Made me laugh a number of times. And so many Easter eggs in reference to many movies were scattered throughout the movie, that especially if you're old enough to catch them all. And I'm pretty sure I missed a few. And watching Jason Momoa make fun of himself and really play the self deprecation was hilarious. A man with a heart and a sense of humor. Takes someone not full of themselves to play a character like that.

Pretty much forgot about it the next day,but a few days later started thinking about again. And every time I do,a couple times a day. I get a big smile on my face. So i must say, well done guys. It's basically a new twist on Jumunji. We And I'm all for it and hopefully we'll get to see number two. 🤞

A fun family move

This is the first movie in a long time that has managed to drag me out to the cinemas. We decided to go as a family, with 4 and 9 year old boys.

The movie started out quite odd and just went straight into it. But I guess we aren't watching the Da Vinci Code so that's fair enough.

I noticed straight away some of houses and roads looked exactly like New Zealand and figured out quickly that this was the case. That probably allows for a little bit of bias from me with the review. You notice that obviously they are catering for the American audience as they were driving on the wrong side of the road for our laws and put American plates on the cars.

The casting was pretty good. Momoa plays he role well and is funny. The only casting that was a let down was the boy, he wasn't a very likeable character and the acting from his was pretty poor. Jack Black is consistent as always.

People need to remember this movie is targeted at kids, so I am rating this from a family point of view simply on its enjoyment level. There are some funny adult references that made for some chuckles from the wife and I, just enough to keep us engaged and also not too much that the kids picked up on anything.

I certainly recommend.

Game came to life.

A Minecraft Movie is a video-game adaptation that aims to pay tribute to the open-world flexibility and creativity of Minecraft while staying within the game's framework. The movie, which has been delayed for a while, allows director Jared Hess to adapt his deadpan comic-strip style for a children's fantasy. Hess reunites with Jack Black, the star of his 2006 slapstick adventure, Nacho Libre. Steve, a man who "yearned for the mines" as a child and discovers a portal into the magical Overworld as an adult, throws off the shackles of workaday existence with enthusiasm. Bad-guy pigs covet the "orb" Steve has discovered, so he sends his faithful wolf-dog, Dennis, to hide it in the real world. Hess connects with his Dynamite roots and sets in a small town in Idaho where siblings Natalie (Emma Myers) and Henry (Sebastian Hansen) relocate to a small town. Henry, a creative school-age misfit, meets Garrett Garrison (Jason Momoa), a former gaming champion who now runs a retro pop-culture junk store on the verge of foreclosure. Natalie meets Dawn (Danielle Brooks), a friendly real estate agent who moonlights as a mobile zookeeper. In a kid picture, this litany of quirk might seem too much, but for a kid film, it's sweetly silly and distinctive. Momoa plays a less bullying version of Napoleon Dynamite sensei Rex Kwon Do. The first 30 to 40 minutes of A Minecraft Movie have enough big laughs that it's almost a disappointment when Henry, Garrett, Natalie, and Dawn stumble upon the orb and end up accidentally sucked into the Overworld. A Minecraft Movie is a big-studio adaptation of the popular video game Minecraft, directed by Jared Hess. The film presents a muddy, confusing, and erratically presented quest to save Steve's beloved Dennis, protect the orb, and bring the four displaced travelers home. The six-writer screenplay often shows seams, with characters making plans and deviating without comment. The film is light on its feet, with slapstick silliness and cartoonish sketches. However, the more antic side of things takes over, and the various CG landscapes populated by blocky people and creatures start to feel repetitive.

A Minecraft Movie misses the combination of minutiae and vastness of Minecraft the game, shortchanging any potential obsessiveness in favor of making the Overworld look more like something out of a Mario game. The film also has parallels to Black's other video-game-movie gig and aspirations to its popularity with the playground set. As with many game-based movies, the mismatch between what each medium does best isn't reconciled by A Minecraft Movie. However, turning the world's best-selling video game into Jared Hess's best feature in years is a creative undertaking. Thematically, A Minecraft Movie offers a pat world-is-what-you-make-it lesson, but Jack Black and Jason Momoa sell it with comic enthusiasm.

A safe take on Minecraft

Like a number of others, I have my own share of playing and watching Minecraft? So I went to watch open minded and ready for the worst. Video Game movies tend to be a hit or miss, so what's the harm in seeing if this one is any different?

I am happy to say the MineCraft adaption was better than expected. The common challenge with Video Game movies is appealing to everyone which includes non-gamers? The story while unexpected managed to keep a fair balance of incorporating human and game like elements.

It's cool to see a wide range of features from the game in the movie. Not just to be blurted out, but used in some creative ways. Big bonus plus for the humor, achieving that in a MineCraft movie is worth a handshake.

Perhaps it's just me, but there will be a feeling where you wonder if the movie could of been better? I have no issues with the story line, but it's within the lines of "playing it safe."

Fun time!!!!

So yeah The Minecraft movie is a fun time. It's nothing deep but a fun time at movies. So yeah watch it to have a good time!!! Surprisingly a good time!!! Jack Black as always a delight and again excels in this family movie. He has become a true gem for family movies. Jason Mamoa also is great company to Jack Black and brings unique sense of humor. Story is nothing great or deep. Game doesn't even have a story so no surprise there. But it's made in a fun way!!! Reminds me of the good time had with Jumanji. So yeah given there was no big movie that all can come together and make a big day out in long time, this is the perfect movie for everyone to watch.

Good fun

I took my 11 year old son to see this. I went with low expectations thinking he would love it and I would be bored. I couldn't have been more wrong, I loved it!

It was fast paced and fun. Characters all well rounded and story easy to follow.

Jack Black played the part perfectly - his facial expressions and the way he delivers his lines was spot on. Was good to see Jason Momoa not playing the 'alpha male'. In fact that character specification was entirely absent and not missed at all. I also liked the fact there was no undercurrent of romance between the main group which was refreshing.

Supporting cast also excellent. Jennifer Coolidge plays a random side character with her own little storyline which is amusing.

Well worth a watch with kids, or without.

CHICKEN JOCKEYYY

Memes aside, this film had my son and I laughing the whole way through, as well as the rest of the audience. We love Minecraft and while we were slightly disappointed with the absence of some important elements from the game, we were very stoked that there were a few Easter eggs and honorable mentions within the movie that we weren't expecting.

I really liked the beginning of the film, I thought of Jason Mamoa's character to really be the centerpiece of the movie. Steve almost seems like he's just there to give the audience a tutorial. And a lot of quotes.... which have been stuck in our head for weeks now.

I actually quite liked the mix of real sets and props with the CGI. I think the trailers kind of lacked showing some of that side of the art direction... good blend in my opinion. The movie as a whole definitely felt like an adventure! Going to see it again next weekend. Yes it's that entertaining. Simple!

Disregard the naysayers

I'm not sure what all the negative nancies are griping about. It's a video game made into a movie. I went today and the theater was packed. Everyone was laughing, getting excited when certain characters came on screen, clapping and having a great time. Jack Black and Jason Mamoa had a great chemistry. The movie was witty and fun. Was great to see the excitement in my sons eyes.

Jack Black is his usual, wish he was your best friend self. Was a nice tribute in the movie too and everyone got excited about. I had to ask my son what that was about and he filled me in. I won't spoil it.

So overall, great time and great movie to spend with your kids (or adult kids) enjoy because I certainly did!

It's a fun, silly romp

There are loads of really smart jokes throughout the movie that you don't have to be a fan of the game to laugh at. There is way more story than I was expecting. Usually when u see a movie has five people that wrote the screen play I expect it to be terrible but not this one. I laughed a lot. The graphics are fantastic and you can't take it too seriously. It was worth seeing in the theater as it was a fun, silly romp that takes nothing and became a full fledged film. Jack is jack, and Jason is always great. 100% would recommend and I was expecting it to not be much but with the low expectations it kind of blew my mind. It's no titanic and it's not trying to be.

amazing CGI, but Minecraft does not only have younger fans.

I enjoyed the movie. The CGI was AMAZING! Loved it.

Jack Black was the perfect cast for this, he made the movie so fun. And the promotion for the film was also really fun. It made me want to watch the movie even more.

I used to play Minecraft when it first came out in 2011. Now that I am an adult, I do not play it anymore. But I still wanted to watch the movie because it brings back childhood memories. There were a lot of adults like me in the cinema, who used to play Minecraft and wanted to watch the movie. Even though the game is mainly played by kids nowadays, the older generations were also interested in the movie. So I wish the movie was not only directed at kids. I understand why they did that, but I think they could have made it a tiny bit more mature for the older generations as well.

At the end of the day...

If you loved Jared Hess's previous films (such as Napoleon Dynamite and Nacho Libre), you'll love A Minecraft Movie. If you're not a Jared Hess or Jack Black fan, it's going to be 101 minutes of cringe.

Does it have the best storyline, character development, final act, villain, or writing? No. But does it have great visuals, vibrant characters (Black and Mamoa in particular), easter eggs galore, and a ton of creativity? Yes. Will it be remembered as a "great" movie? Nope. But will it be forever immortalized in memes and one-liners? You bet.

And at the end of the day, kids are going to love it, which is all that matters.

Fun and silly

As two Minecraft lovers, my son and I both enjoyed this movie. The CG is great, the characters are funny, and the acting is good. The story is pretty flimsy, but that's about what we expected. This is a movie for Minecraft fans, and a slapstick comedy, so if you're expecting a grand drama with fully fleshed-out characters, you will be disappointed. If you go into this expecting to be entertained and tickled to see the world of Minecraft imagined as a real place, you'll have a good time. Good themes of family and friendship, creativity, and teamwork. My only personal gripe is there's too much action for my tastes, but kids will love it.

The game truly deserved a film.

This movie is such a nostalgic bait and I'm not surprised but I don't care this was such a great film to watch!.

Jack black honestly Carried , I've heared that he was intended to be cast as a small role but man thank GODNESS he became Steve and not some talking pink sheep he honestly made the film so good by quoting Minecraft stuff which honestly sound stupid but it's so fun when he says stuff like Chicken Jokey , and crafting table etc. And yeah Jack black is one of my favorite actors and I love his performance in any film no matter the script he is such a fun character and thank god he was cast as "Steve" !.

The Minecraft bit was good , though I didn't really love the "Origin" idea it kind of touches certain aspects of the game that shouldn't be touched like "The origins of Steve" but eh atleast it was a fun bit , The whole intro of the film was good , Jack Black's narration was great , The overworld was done in kind of a different way in some aspects but eh atleast they didn't blow it as much as I thought. I liked that they've mentioned some Minecraft structures and what kind of bugged me that they didn't explore the Vast dimensions that Minecraft had to offer but still the Minecraft bit was good.

THE THING THAT I DID NOT LIKE WAS: they did NOT mention herobrine in ANY WAY not even a hint , did the producers really forgot him ? He was a Gaint hoax and they really forgot him like that , he was such an important part for Me I really wanted him to be in the film in anyway shape or form but eh atleast the film wasn't the worst thing ever.

Overall great film and as a Minecraft player since the dawn of the game till now I approve that I've enjoyed this film and I want them to do more Minecraft movies , A sequel would be greatly appreciated. 8/10.

A genuinely funny movie

I have be playing Minecraft since beds were only red. While I did love all the Minecraft stuff I enjoyed for more than that. I was FUNNY, not in the same way marvel is funny just funny. It felt like a classic comedy like anchorman or Zoolander "just appropriate". I have been waiting for someone to make a movie like this for an awhile and this delivers, and the Minecraft just adds to it. When it comes to the Minecraft part it is accurate in ways unlike any other video game movie. I felt a flood gate of nostalgia during every scene. This is a fun watch that I could watch over and over again and still laugh. I highly recommend.

Jack Black stomach fly a lot bro

Play Minecraft the telltale game n was actually fun with building, exploring n finding ways to build for escape n of course the famous creepers. My nephew plays it lots specially, battle royale was he fav. Hearing a movie was gonna be made, not but add Jack Black n Jason Momoa? Nuff said.

Review: Yeah there's wasn't a story to said in the movie, course head more children friendly tales. But the environment n fantasy of crafting was the fun part I enjoyed a lot cause the theme of building anything from imagination is what this game is all about.

Sold it, from the blocking weapons to even Mushrooms houses there so much to explore.

Now in cast there just two, ye know who there re manchild extraordinar Jack Black n awesome 80's gears Jason Momoa, they catchup n mustard in burger, why not ever since he's performance in John Cusack(awesome actor all time) Black brought life to the movie from the narrator to goofy acting he does it, hey he goes Tenacious D on film ke awesome, been while we don't ve actors who rock with motion, Jack can. Momoa my man can't get he line from JL film nails as falling game idol, hes dynamic with Black was epicness both bro giving their childish act, bring more awesomeness from been in the ring with zombie baby n chicken n eating chicken leg burn in lava yeah he knows how to act, a la looney tunes.

Downfall is final boss where blocky dragon Need my blocky dragon they could gone for the last Ridley Scott epic's battle, film could gone with that.

So conclude the film can be enjoy by any age, don't actually know what the game is about instead flow with the laughs, n ke hell?

My 200 reviews if ye reading thank ya for interest reading my take of any genre movies, animes, n anything involving foreign is been 1 years n half exploiting my way on writing, I mean Jack Black stomach gets more attention. So ke awesome here's hoping for 300. N like always be awesome.

Cracking family film

Imagine only voting a film down just because everyone else is?

The film is full fun and laughs from minute one. Both Jack and Jason give brilliant performances.

With family films, it's always important to me to understand how the target audience felt about the film. Of all my kids loved it, found it fun from start to finish and cared enough about the characters to form bonds.

I feel maybe it could've (should've perhaps), been a bit longer and they could've had a bit more fun with the characters. For me, that's the only real trick they missed here.

I doubt they will make a 2nd, however, the possibilities are endless.

Bad cgi, great fun

Overall, this movie was crazy fun! It was a fun, fast paced, adventure with lots of game references. If you can watch this in the theatre, please do when it's full: so many loving fans came to see it and cheer! I was worried about it considering I have been playing for 10 years, but it was really good in the end! My only flaws were that the finale was anticlimactic, characters could've been more developed, the cgi was obviously horrible, and some parts of the movie are new and aren't part of the game. So if you are looking for a fun, exciting way to spend your day, please check out this movie!
