A total 100 mins time wasted

I was quite anticipating this movie adaptation of a renowned game franchise. Given the absence of a clear storyline in the original game, I wondered how the filmmakers would translate the narrative. Instead of engaging in thoughtful consideration, they opted for a 100-minute hamburger of a movie-a story devoid of logic, simply assembling various characters without any apparent reason.

In the very first three minutes, Steve's voiceover sets the melancholic tone of this movie, providing a lazy explanation of Minecraft, simply because "when I was a child, I wanted to mine."

I love mine I love craft I love Minecraft? Oh please.

Night Ruined

I had brought my six year old along to watch the movie. We had seen the clips of reactions, but I never could have imagined it'd happen to us. As soon as Jack Black screamed "CHICKEN JOCKEY!", me and my child were rained upon by soda, popcorn, and a live chicken. My child was struck on the head with a popcorn bucket, and had to go to the emergency room for a concussion Possibly the worst movie experience I have ever experienced. The only reason I didn't rate it one star is because I enjoyed the elytra scene.

Overall, wonderful experience for me, awful for my child. My wife will no longer speak to me, thank you Jack Black.

I want to cry

Watching this mentally harms me. I used to be a massive fan of Minecraft, playing it everyday. I know this movie is more for kids but I thought at least it would be entertaining to watch with friends. Spoiler, it wasn't. There is no reason to watch this movie, it's just Jack Black saying Minecraft things in a silly voice, which is entertaining at first, but falls off around the 20th time. I get I'm not the target audience for this movie, but I hoped it would at least be a little fun or make me laugh. But no, it's just a snooze fest.

It's not entertaining, there is no plot, and all the characters are 2d. 2/10, don't watch.

It is really bad and not worth your money

This movie is really terrible. How could this be grenlit by Mojang or Microsoft is a mystery to me. It feels like a simple cashgrab for little children who dont know it better and just want to see Minecraft! But the "story" is lame, the characters are 2-dimensional and it feels like you are watching a b-movie that is a parody of minecraft. It really felt like i was on a trip because i couldnt believe how dumb everything was and i would say you will loose a few iq points watching this.

Well at least the people making the money are happy and the little kids love this brain rot. But i would have expected more from Mojang. Making an actual decent Minecraft Movie. Guess that is out of the question.

Reality in a kids movie.

The movie is kid orientated but is basically segmented into three components, reality, the Underworkd and the overworld.

The voices don't fit the nature of the CGI characters and it has momenents that attempt failed humour.

Like all modern movies there is a hideous Under tone that you find portrayed in movies that go back to the matrix and beyond; a principle that is apparently being drummed into the mind of kids.

That is to work and to become nothing more than an ambitious, mindless mechanical worker which is perfectly portrayed in the most simple of ways in the under world.

This hollow slave like behaviour is seen to exist in the character of Jason Mamoa when he tries to take the diamonds which leads to him confessing his poverty ridden state of reality, while in the over world, suggesting that the habituality of the under world resides in the soul.

Which Jack Black emphatically states at the start of the movie as something that he is wasting.

The synthetic condition of the under world presented in reality is explained in an ideal state of affairs with in the realm I presume is called Minecraft.

While the entire realm of Minecraft is fake and the only real elements are people there is one odd moment, that is when they eat chicken, seemingly random and utterly irrelevant but is made as real as people, obviously amplifying a behaviour that is manifest in reality, meat eating. A sinister component used to promote the slavery of animals and nefarious actions of humans.

This theme while written as fiction in many movies is well defined in gnostic literature given to us thousands of years ago by the Jewish Messiah, Yeshua.

Rather than enjoying such a mindless movie I am more concerned as to why it's being presented as a form of entertainment?

Where is the story?

I know kids don't fully understand the world of minecraft as much but I think almost everyone including kids have wondered about the existence of mineshafts, creation of villages, abanfoned villages, pillagers, mob spawner, the nether, nether fortresses, THE DRAGON, the wither, the witch's hut, and soo soo many other thing including so many weird biomes and their characters. Maybe this movie was made for really young kids and this movie is a cool tutorial which it sort of seems like to be. But the game teaches you how to play. Why not go for a very intricate story slowly unfurling everything in the game and it's mystery. Here's an example of a great movie that that be had in a series of minecraft movies - "Herobine"!?.

Okay, maybe they were not looking to make a minecraft movie universe and it is understandable. But, who is the piglin leader lady? When did we have her? When were those ghast flying machines added to the game? I dont remember. And where are those iron giants that can be crafted by using boots on their heads? BOOTS??? When were boots added?

This is supposed to be a representation of the game right? Nothing against the actor, they wanted a type and he most definitely was perfect fit. I don't relate with Steve with that character. And also, where is any reference to the community?

This new story about the orb is crazy and not in a good way. It doesn't resemble anything that is true to the game apart from copy pasted characters, a sort of block world that is not true to size and it has a story that will not fulfill anything for me in the game, it solves no mystery. This movie is a disappointmemt.

Forgettable salad with a nice side of brain rot.

Where do I even start with this. Well, I suppose it would be fair to say that not going to the theatre to begin with would have been a good idea. Everything about this movie from start to finish felt bland, unimaginative, and very uncanny. I attribute the uncanny feel of the whole movie to the combination of live actors with the CGI. It just felt wrong and that's all I can tell you. Needless to say, I didn't want live actors in a movie meant for Minecraft to begin with, but hey, it is what it is, and that's why this movie fails in so many ways.

Obviously, this movie is a money grab so I'm not expecting the acting quality to be through the roof, but COME ON guys. The acting was so bad and cringe worth at certain points that I had to physically run the sides of my head just to stomach certain scenes, all while telling myself that I just had to make it through about an hour more, painful as it was. The two girl characters were both extremely forgettable, and the brother was uninteresting at best. As for Jason and Jack Black.... Yeah. Not the greatest duo in the world. I just felt like Jack Black was laying it on wayyyy too thick for the entire movie, and that's saying something for him. As far as Jason is concerned, I'm pretty sure my ears started hurting after listening to him squeal for the one hundredth time. And to top it all off, the shots and angles of the entire movie felt unnecessary, bland, and just straight up weird at times.

All in all, it was a disappointment of a money grab/ movie. I feel that Minecraft deserved much better.

Not terrible but....you know what nevermind

I expected to be bad or so bad it's good but instead, this was just boring.

Some of the non-serious humor moments, designs and unhinged performances does offer some solid fun moments that makes it at least enjoyable. But the characters and storytelling are pretty flawed as the creative choices and decisions on how the world of Minecraft is observed and presented aren't great.

Having grown up with Minecraft, I do appreciate that the filmmaker and writers at least were able to capture the essence and atmosphere of the world. The designs and models are pretty accurate but lashed with some really ugly CGI and some poor colors that makes it pretty bad. The humor is rough With the characters being annoying, the performance from Jason Momoa and Jennifer Coolidge, are the best aspect of the film. I like Jack Black but unfortunately his performance was annoying and is pretty bad.

I personally wish the writing would have been based on some of the Minecraft stories that existed in the franchise as having to blend those stories with new concepts could make them quite fun.

But nope.

A Minute Movie

Terrible dialogue, bad jokes and a shallow plot, A Minecraft Movie appears to be a sign of the success that can come from a truly awful film.

The only real genuine fun the movie seems to generate is the thankless charisma generated by Jason Momoa as Garret, as well as the so-bad-it's-good and absolutely unnecessary sub-plot following the always entertaining Jennifer Coolidge, who chews the scenery every chance she gets. And the creative mechanics regarding the world building in the Overworld are admittedly translated accurately and faithfully to the silver screen.

But that's where the positives end, really. The only thing that is worth criticising about any comedy is if it completes its primary purpose in making its audience laugh; and although it may be superficially surpassing those expectations, the truth is just none of it really works nearly as well as it should. And the problems go down to the bare bones structure it miraculously fails in following, with the pacing being lightning fast like a fever dream, yet the film also never seems to know when to end as it gives itself an over extended third act climax and the aforementioned sub plot with Coolidge that adds nothing of real value to the actual story other than a few genuine laughs. Moreover, the awkward humour is poorly conceived, timed, and delivered, with the worst contender of this unfortunately being Jack Black, who seems to only be delivering phoned in performances as of late, and his performance here is thus far the cumulative evidence of that. His line delivery, sudden breakout into song, and exaggerated mannerisms all seem to be on auto pilot, and the vacant emotionality and passion in his eyes really shows; it's a horrifying performance that becomes very difficult to watch at times. And in terms of characters, none are really all that interesting and no one actually leads the film as the main star, which is made apparent in the first act. Kid actors definitely deserve more of a break as they are much less experienced, but Sebastian Eugene delivered a horrendously inexperienced performance as the supposedly talented Henry, and his sister Natalie doesn't get anything to do and is then played with absolute apathy by Emma Myers. And Danielle Brooks' character is inexplicably tacked on for no discernible reason as she contributes nothing to the plot or the humour. And there's almost nothing left to say about anyone else, even the villain, as everyone else is so straightforward in their character types that the film as a whole feels generically executed as a whole. And the look of the film, although previously praised for its accurately portrayed mechanics, is off-putting, with the live action treatment giving unnecessarily detailed textures to the world of blocks. This is especially apparent to the Overworld's inhabitants and their deaths in action scenes, where they instantly disappear after being shockingly graphically attacked with knives, arrows, shovels, swords, and more, adding an unintentional layer of confusingly disturbing harm committed by the borderline sociopathic behaviours of the leads and the antagonists as they nonchalantly take each other out. It's either a brave choice to go for a harder PG rating or a tonally confusing choice that throws off the already failed attempts at having a consistently fun experience.

Overall, A Minecraft Movie is a very faithful video game adaptation, with a very terrible story, populated by ironically unimaginative plot beats, visuals, direction, and character writing all monstrously conjoined together.

Boring

The visuals are good but ruined by humans CGId Into it. After like the first 10 min it gets boring, the plot is predictable and the characters are not explored enough, but that happens when there is too many characters and run time isn't that long. I feel like the movie was not creative enough for a movie about building whatever you want, like when the main character built the gun that shot potatos. The side plot about villager and the human was the only interesting part. I so hoped that the movie would be something creative and interesting but in the end it's a expensive cash grab, only getting attention because the memes.

certainly a movie of mojangs quality

You cant even blame this on the actors like you can the borderlands movie and so many other,s i applaud them for even wanting to be in this movie, i hope they were paid well, the CGI is awful, with lots of clipping and horrendously low quality to super high quality models, have the cgi charectors in this movie go from looking like unfinished renders to suddenly super high quality models, the green screening is also clearly visible, and the clipping issues are noticable within the first 10 minutes of the movie, again this is truly a movie made by mojang and it shows, i can feel the 2 minutes of work every 3 years in this.

Most probably the worst movie I've ever seen

The only good thing was the cast choice, otherwise I would've put 1 star. The concept is very cringe, the ideas and scenes make close to no sense. The thing that bugged me the most is the fact that you can see the green screen and spaces around the almost the entire film. The enemies are not opening their mouths when talking, then later opening them, then not and over again. In one scene the wolf characters have no texture added to them, just the shape. In the scene where Henry is falling, you can clearly see the strings/ropes. The colors are so off it's unnecesary to comment such a thing... Very disapointing...

Minecraft Movie Makes Me Feel Empty

I went into the theatre hoping for at so bad It's good kind of experience, but I was completely let down because it was fine in the most boring way possible.

The reason I don't find it, so bad It's good is because the movie has a kind of irony to it, It's like the people know that it's not that good, so They just smile to the camera and wait for the paycheck. For it to be so bad It's good, I need them to sincerely try to make a good movie for it to be funny.

You can say a lot of things about the Twilight movies, but Stephanie Mayer's, wanted them to make a good movie that was correct to her book and that is what makes it funny.

I didn't get the sincere feeling in Minecraft movie.

But what is left is an average children's movie that I would probably have like as a child. But at least Jack Black and Jason Momoa are having fun.

It's just a nothing burger of a movie.

What a waste of money!

Wish I never went!

Best thing during this movie, was the popcorn I bought!

Acting was terrible, but ever more terrible, was the story in the movie! Everything was so «made up» in every scene, to fit in so the actors could «win» every scene.

Everything went fast forward, so there wasn't a normal theme during the whole movie.

Man, I wish I could get my money back and my 2 hours I will never get back! What a waste!

Even the kids at the movie starting to run around, because it was so boring for them to sit still and watch. Thank God for our phones!!!

If you wanna watch this movie, watch it on tv, don't pay to see it!

Disappointment of the year award!

Yeah, it is bad. I watched it yesterday. Even the kids didn't enjoy it. Instead of focusing on the game, movie is focusing on the personal drama of each character. Haft the movie is just introduction. It is extremely disappointing. Want my money back!

Trailer basically contains all the actual minecraft moment.

Very little of the game is actually introduced. Action is constantly jumping between minecraft moments and personal drama. There's very little adventure in the movie. The whole story and the idea who's good and who's bad just basic plane.

So much hype for nothing!

The whole movie is a mess.

The worst movie I've seen in a long time. Even for kids.

I usually love children'w films. Good children's films in any case. Just came off a week watching Ready Player One and Wreck-It Ralph with my grandkids and loved these films. Don't listen to those that are giving the awful A Minecraft Movie a pass because it is for children. Children deserve better.

Halfway through I wanted to leave and sit in the lobby. That has never happened to me, not even for Xanadu.

The only thing I can imagine is that the studio writers were very lazy. Maybe they used primitive AI to write the script? The story was horrible, filled with things that were included to check off boxes of what studio morons thought a film should have. The result is triple the number of main characters needed, a romance sidestory that had no place or no effect on the main story line, way too much action and explosions to the point where your brain will shut off, way too little capturing the magic of the Minecraft world.

My grandkids said it was okay. They knew from TikTok there were parts they were supposed to cheers at, but most of the audience in our theater was too embarrassed.

Jason Momoa's and Sebastian Hansen were the only good parts. Even then, by the end I was rolling my eyes at Momoa.

Normally with a not-good film I'd say wait until it's released digitally, but with this one you should wait longer than that. A LOT longer.

We deserve way better than this. This film is just insulting.

My 8 Y.O. kid thought it was corny also but enjoyed it

I dont normally write reviews definitely one of my firsts on imdb,

I wouldn't go to the cinema to watch this movie its a waste of time and money for the effort Yes it is a kids movie, but then how come other kids animation movies/live actions are wayyyyyy better than this movie and actually enjoyable to watch as an adult?

People who are saying people are taking it too seriously obviously cant tell the difference of stinkin poo and nice smelling fragrances

Jack black is just way too over the top, I get that its him but its just too much, I still enjoy him in other movies but not when his overly doing it and trying way to hard to be funny.

I didn't even see the point of the 2 of the female characters they were barely in the movie as it was, their casting was basically pointless.

CGI I can agree it was impressive storyline pretty much was same usual type of story of saving the world

my kid only enjoyed the funny parts and the fact that he got to see the parts of Minecraft that he loved so if the fact is its a KIDS MOVIE and he can see it wasn't all there then I guess it speaks on itself his 8 years old for god sakes and see's how bad it was

I don't know much of the game only a few things about it but I'd rather spend that time I watched the movie, playing the game with my kid

save your money, watch it at home if your curious enough to watch it.

Lowbrow Movie

This movie was way too corny and the scenes that were supposed to be "funny" was basically humor for a 3 year old. I'm glad I didn't spend my OWN money on this rubbish. Between the kids screaming and clapping over every single minor Minecraft reference it ruined the entire experience and the whole "chicken jockey " bit is down right stupid. You overhyped this movie to be something that's it's NOT. I felt like little to no thought was put into minus the fact you shouted out that dead player in it. Jack black and Jason Momoa are literally the only reasons why I wanted to watch it and even there lil "bromance" on screen was cringy and uncomfortable.

CGI sucks

The movie kicks off with some solid laughs - the intro's got charm and a playful tone that kinda hooks you. But once things really get moving, the CGI starts showing its cracks. The textures? Just kinda bad. Some of it looks like it was pulled from an early PS3 game - not terrible, but definitely not theater-quality. And there are scenes where the CGI feels unfinished or lazy, like they rushed to meet a deadline. The green screening ain't much better either - characters don't blend naturally with the background, and it throws the immersion off. Funny start, but visually? It's rough. Not recommended for children or anyone. It might give children a bad impression of Minecraft.

No really. It's the most slop-dense movie of all time.

So I went against every external and internal warning and watched this movie, mainly because I got tired of people spamming "Chicken Jockey" without understanding the context.

This is pure slop. Like after you filtered everything of value and evaporated every ounce of dampness you're just left with this large, compacted slop. That's what this movie is.

First, I would like to start with the positives:There are none. No seriously. There are only 2 other movies that I can say the same for. There are ZERO positives. Maybe the visuals were good, but they still suck hard. Maybe the acting with Jack Black and Jason Mamoa was good, but their characters are just so awful and annoying.

Meanwhile, the plot is just all over the place while being incredibly derivative at the same time. I didn't think this was possible either, but here we are. The jokes don't land. All of the phrases and one-liners the kids in the theater were screaming out weren't good. I started guessing lines because it was too predictable and lazy. That "Chicken Jockey" meme I went to see the movie over? It wasn't good at all. It sucked hard, and I walked out of the theater about 2 minutes afterward as I remembered I had work in the morning and shouldn't be wasting my precious free time on mindless slop. Never mind all the stupid references and poor writing choices, and everyone sounds like they are being dubbed into a foreign film.

"But it's a kids movie!" No. It's probably even worse to show to kids as they don't need to be exposed to such pointless, artless slop while their brains are developing. That's how you get a generation of stupid, meme-speaking drones that regularly vote against their own interests. They deserve better. They need better to grow as individuals.

"Why 2/10 instead of 1/10 then?" Because 1/10 stars are for truly bad movies, but that level of bad requires effort and planning going wrong. A Minecraft movie isn't that. It's just the most concentrated form of slop that can be perceived by the human eye.

Absolutely terrible

I have been a player of Minecraft since 4 years in the making, And this feels like a kick to the head towards the game itself.

The animation, green screen, modelling, textures missing (Just felt like playing a game on settings that don't allow you to go lower but you still did), overall quality were totally lacking, I saw the people behind Villager suits very clearly.

The only reason I would rate it 2 stars is because of the Technoblade reference and the Steve's Lava Chicken song.

There was too many edgy moments but it's expected for a PG movie, It was too generic and predictable, Fast paced events.

There was more effort put into this review than the entire movie.
