- [Scarecrow is holding Barbara hostage]
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: Let her go!
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: You both still have a part to play.
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: We had a deal!
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: [laughs] Once I understood your greatest fear, controlling you was simple. You blame yourself for her condition. You need to protect her, but buried deep down is the inevitability that you will one day fail. And that fear makes you mine.
- [Gordon aims his gun at Scarecrow]
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: Think very carefully about your next move, Commissioner. Her life depends on it.
- [Gordon turns and shoots Batman in the chest, sending him tumbling off the roof]
- Barbara Gordon: Dad, no!
- [from trailer]
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: How many more bones would you crush? How many lives will you destroy in pursuit of what you call justice? You are the product of everything you fear; Violence, Darkness, Helplessness... All that remains is for you to watch as I drag your beloved Gotham into oblivion.
- [the last will and testament of Thomas Wayne]
- Thomas Wayne: In the event of my death, I hereby declare that all my worldly possessions pass to my son, Bruce Wayne. Bruce: I ask that you honour the Wayne family legacy, and commit yourself to the improvement of Gotham City, its institutions and its citizens. Please, be strong. You are young, but destined for great things. Make the most of your opportunities; use them to give back to a city that has given us so much, to change the lives of millions of people. Do not be frivolous with this wealth; please do not waste it all on fast cars and outrageous clothes, and the pursuit of a destructive lifestyle. Invest in Gotham. Treat its people like family; watch over them, and use this money to safeguard them from forces beyond their control. My deepest regret is I will not see you grow into the good man I know you will become. And finally, my son, I ask that you never abandon this city to fate. We have lived through dark days; there's no doubt there are more to come. But it is the good and great men who stand up for Gotham when others turn and run. In death, I will love you for ever. Your father, Thomas.
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: Remnants of Gotham, I have messages for you all. To the vandals who stayed behind to pick the still warm flesh from Gotham's bones, have your fun - you are under my protection. To the cowards quaking behind the police department's walls, you will not be spared. And to Batman, I have already won. Emptied your city with a vile of toxin and a few threatened words that's how little the safety you provided was worth When the dawn comes, when Gotham lies in ruin and I turn my gaze to the world beyond, the legend of the Batman will be worth nothing at all.
- Batman: Where's Scarecrow?
- Soldier: [Tries to inject him with Scarcrow's fear toxin] Go to hell!
- Batman: [Throws him to the ground and pins him down] Where is he?
- Soldier: I've got nothing to say to you, Batman.
- Batman: Talk, or I will crush every bone in your body.
- Soldier: Okay, okay, he's working out of a penthouse in Chinatown. I swear, that's all I know!
- Batman: If you're lying, I'll break the other one.
- Soldier: The other...?
- Batman: [Breaks his arm]
- Selina Kyle: Some things you can't do alone, Bruce.
- Batman: And some things you have to.
- Selina Kyle: Call if you need me.
- Batman: I won't.
- Selina Kyle: I know. I just wanted to say it.
- Arkham Knight: Turn around.
- [Batman does, and sees the Arkham Knight aiming a gun at him]
- Batman: Who are you?
- Arkham Knight: You really have no idea...
- [lifts his mask]
- Jason Todd: ...do you, Bruce?
- Batman: Jason? But... you're dead.
- The Joker: Let's not fall out here, Bats. I might have told you a teeny, tiny little lie. But come on, look at the boy! You did good. We did good! You should be proud.
- [driving around in the Jokermobile blitzing everything]
- The Joker: So much more fun with ME at the controls!
- Two-Face: [regains consciousness in the back of the Batmobile] Damn you...
- Harvey Dent: So is it true... Bruce?
- [silence]
- Two-Face: Don't answer, then. We know the truth.
- Harvey Dent: You aren't Bruce Wayne. Jim Gordon and I, we didn't strike a deal with Bruce Wayne.
- Two-Face: And it's sure as hell not Bruce Wayne waiting on the rooftops each night.
- Harvey Dent: This is who you are. See, we get it, "Bruce." It's not the face you're given...
- Two-Face: It's the face you choose.
- Alfred Pennyworth: [about the Dolltrons] It brings to mind a spate of murders at the beginning of your career. It was Halloween then if I'm not mistaken, turned out to be rather a long one if I recall...
- Dick Grayson: [after defeating the last of Penguin's thugs] Lucius, restore power to the elevator.
- [through the intercom]
- Dick Grayson: Hey, boss! We're gettin' you outta here!
- Oswald Cobblepot: You are? Where's Nightwing?
- Dick Grayson: Oh, he's right here. We thought you'd want to say hello.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Oh-ho, I do!
- [the elevator doors open. Penguin swaggers out, lighting a cigar, then sees Nightwing standing there]
- Oswald Cobblepot: Oh, sod off.
- [to Batman, after she successfully saved Gotham from Scarecrow's fear gas]
- Pamela Isley: [Under her last breath] Nature always wins.
- [Dies in his arms]
- [spoiler]
- Jason Todd: [after revealing his identity] What's the matter? Lost for words? I expected more. I'm hurt.
- Batman: Joker sent me the film... I saw him kill you.
- Jason Todd: [screaming] Don't you dare lie to me! How long did you take before replacing me? Huh? A month? A week? I trusted you and you just left me to die!
- Batman: That's not what happened!
- Jason Todd: You always told me, Bruce: focus on what I want to achieve, and it will happen. Well, do you know what I want right now? I... want... you... dead.
- [Batman knocks his gun away and disappears in a cloud of smoke]
- Jason Todd: [draws a second gun and lowers his mask] you can't hide from me! i will hunt you down!
- Batman: Jim, I wanted to tell you: working with Barbara, it was an honor...
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: Don't.
- Batman: Even if you knew what she was she was doing, you couldn't have stopped her.
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: Stubborn. Like her old man.
- Batman: Brave.
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: You know, you see a lot in this job. A lot of heartbreak, a lot of suffering. But I'll never forget taking a witness statement from an eight-year-old boy who'd just seen his parents gunned down.
- Batman: You were kind, Jim.
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: I... I was thinking, I may never get the chance to tell you this, to say sorry.
- Batman: You don't have to.
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: We're the same, Bruce. We'd do anything for our family.
- The Joker: [alternate opening; as the Joker lays on the slab about to be incinerated, he suddenly wakes up and cackles his signature laugh] This is how it happened. This is how the Joker died.
- [first lines]
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: Nine months ago, Joker was cremated. I pressed the button and burnt the evil bastard myself. And then, we waited. Gotham braced itself for the inevitable power struggle. But it didn't come. Crime actually fell. Deep down, I knew war was coming. I was just waiting for someone to pull the trigger.
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: It took just 24 hours to lose control of the city. Tonight, Gotham is relying on one man to save us all.
- [Scarecrow pitches Barbara off the roof of a building, but Batman catches her and glides both of them safely to the ground]
- Batman: Are you hurt?
- Barbara Gordon: I thought Dad killed you!
- [Batman plucks Gordon's bullet from a dint in his chestplate - over the bat symbol, where the armor is thickest and strongest]
- Batman: He knew what he was doing.
- Arkham Knight: [emerges in a gigantic excavation machine] I did ask if it came in black, but then I thought, nah, you'd just get all jealous.
- [Penguin wakes up in the rear of the Batmobile, en route to the GCPD]
- Oswald Cobblepot: Oh, my head... where... where am I?
- Batman: Guess.
- Oswald Cobblepot: No... no! Those guns, they were mine!
- Batman: You can sell them for scrap, if you ever get out.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Oh, you smug bastard! I might have known it was a Wayne underneath that mask. What's the matter? Bankrupting my family's business wasn't enough, you had to go and kick ten tons of crap outta people too?
- Batman: Your family was corrupt, Cobblepot.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Yeah, and yours are dead! Oh, what's the matter? Touched a nerve? This Caped Crusader lark doesn't really work when everybody knows who you are, does it?
- Batman: Worked fine catching you.
- Oswald Cobblepot: Face it, after tonight, Batman's dead in the water! You'd better find yourself a new costume, old boy. Oh, I know! How about a squirrel?
- [laughs]
- Batman: You'll see.
- Arkham Knight: And just so we're on the same page here, I fully, FULLY intend to kill you. But first, we're gonna make you suffer.
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: [about Batman's suddenly violent behavior] Something's changed. You're different.
- The Joker: I prefer to call it a work in progress, but it does show potential.
- Barbara Gordon: Where's the Batmobile?
- Batman: Destroyed.
- Barbara Gordon: What?
- Batman: Don't worry, Lucius made a spare.
- The Joker: Can you remember when it was simple? Back in the old days when it was just you, me, a regular war against crime. Well, take a look, Bats. Things change. Now, it's just war. With you standing, right bang in the center.
- Batman: Barbara, Scarecrow manipulated me... I watched you die.
- Barbara Gordon: He gassed you, Bruce. You don't need to worry about us, or feel responsible. We're fighting *with* you, not *for* you, okay?
- Batman: It's good to have you back.
- Edward Nigma: Riddle me this: why would a Batman visit an abandoned orphanage?
- [Shot of Catwoman, blindfolded and cuffed to a chair]
- Selina Kyle: Eddie, sweetie, you've confused me with Robin. The big guy and I aren't all that close.
- Selina Kyle: You still haven't apologized.
- Batman: For what?
- Selina Kyle: For Eddie treating me like a white hat. Like one of your sidekicks! You know, half the crooks in Gotham think I feed you info.
- Batman: You do.
- Selina Kyle: Well yeah, when there's something in it for me. They think I'm doing it on principle!
- Batman: Sorry for making criminals think less of you.
- Selina Kyle: Hey, have I ever hurt anyone? I'm not one of the bad guys, Batman. I'm freelance.
- Batman: You should pick a side, Selina.
- Selina Kyle: Your side should pay better.
- Militia 6: So I tried one of those question mark games they have around here. Pretty fun. Couldn't do it, though.
- Selina Kyle: Hey, Eddie...
- Edward Nigma: [over phone] Catwoman?
- Selina Kyle: Aren't you in prison?
- Edward Nigma: Ha! No prison can hold me! Uh, hang on a second.
- [louder]
- Edward Nigma: Why yes, Officer Cash, I'm just talking to my lawyer, heh-heh...
- [whispering]
- Edward Nigma: Get out!
- Selina Kyle: Calm down, Eddie. Here's what I'm going to do: I'm going to steal all your money, and destroy everything you've built here, okay?
- Edward Nigma: No...! Uh, I don't approve of that defense strategy, good sir.
- [whispering]
- Edward Nigma: Riddlerbots, attack!
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: [re: Batman] If you want him dead, why come to me? You seem capable.
- Arkham Knight: He needs to suffer. I suffered. So he will too...
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: So, it's personal. There are many in this city with a gift for causing harm.
- Arkham Knight: Not that kind of pain. The real kind.
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: Ah... you want him afraid.
- Arkham Knight: I've seen what your toxin does. I want that.
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: You're well informed about all of us, Arkham Knight. But you're wrong about something. I don't want Batman dead. I want him unmade.
- Arkham Knight: He's better off dead.
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: Kill him, and you martyr him, you make him a legend. But break him, humiliate him, terrify him, and hold him up for the world to see. Then he's nothing but a man.
- Arkham Knight: Look, you can do what you want, Crane. But when you're done, I *will* kill him.
- Dr. Jonathan Crane: Very well. But know this: it'll be an act of mercy when you do.
- [SPOILER]
- Arkham Knight: [on Scarecrow] He's gone. Did he hurt you?
- Barbara Gordon: Spare me the good cop/bad cop routine.
- Arkham Knight: No, no, no, no. See, you're supposed to keep me talking. Play for time. Wait for Batman. That's what he taught you, right?
- Barbara Gordon: I've got nothing to say to you.
- Arkham Knight: I talked for hours. 'Cause I knew, right? Batman was on his way to save me. The bastard let me talk... eventually, I just ran out of things to say. So trust me: you can't count on Bruce to save you.
- Barbara Gordon: Bruce?
- Arkham Knight: Yeah, Scarecrow doesn't know. It's our little secret. Now here's another: Batman likes to play the hero, Barbara, and he's pretty good at it. But it's an act. Batman's not about saving the innocent. He's about punishing the guilty. Now don't get me wrong. He'll look for you, or he'll try. But when it comes down to it, when he has to make a choice between you, and the mission? He'll choose the mission. Every... time.
- Barbara Gordon: You're wrong.
- [the Knight lifts his mask]
- Jason Todd: Look me in the eye and say that.
- Barbara Gordon: [shocked] Jason?
- Selina Kyle: What's Eddie's problem?
- Batman: Fanatic narcissism, egocentrism and megalomania, crossed with severe obsessive compulsion.
- Selina Kyle: Thanks.
- Batman: Don't mention it.
- Edward Nigma: You may be an expert in the art of killing things, Wilson, but you'll find I am expert in everything else.
- Slade Wilson: Only puzzle I ever had to solve was reinflating my own lung while under fire in the Hindu Kush valley.
- Tim Drake: [both Tim and Joker address Batman] You need to get in the cell. It's the only choice we've got left.
- The Joker: That's a defeatist argument, Bats, and you know it.
- Tim Drake: Come on, you need to do this.
- The Joker: You're the boss, don't let HIM tell you what to do.
- Tim Drake: You can't stay out here. It's not safe with Joker inside you.
- The Joker: Tosh! There's plenty of room for both of us in here, but it looks a bit cramped in there.
- Tim Drake: If you're not sure, that's him talking.
- The Joker: If you're not sure, that's you agreeing with me.
- Tim Drake: Be honest, it's what you want.
- The Joker: How would you know what he wants? I'm the one in his head!
- Tim Drake: I can handle Scarecrow.
- The Joker: Ha ha ha ha... oh God, he's serious?
- Tim Drake: You're doing the right thing, trust me.
- Batman: Look after him, Jim. Look after them all. You've been a good friend. The best I could ask for. You were there at the beginning. Now, you get to see how it ends.
- Mad Hatter: [after Scarecrow's unmasking of Batman] Looks like the secret's out now, Mister Wayne. Your tragic youth, your life of pain.
- Mad Hatter: [after Scarecrow's unmasking of Batman] Can you justify the blood you spilled to the boy who saw his parents killed?
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: Hey Batman!
- [Notices that Batman has disappeared]
- G.C.P.D. Commissioner James Gordon: Every damn time.
- Professor Pyg: Pyg coming for you, Bat! Coming to make you perfect! There's no perfection without a little pain!
- [hurls a cleaver at Batman]
- Pamela Isley: Nature always wins!
- [Vines suddenly pull Batman away]
- Pamela Isley: Will he ever learn?
- [She proceeds to go down an elevator to the bottom floor, only to realise Batman is there waiting]
- Batman: You're coming with me.
- Pamela Isley: You only had to ask.
- Oswald Cobblepot: [after Batman destroys his last weapons cache] No! I swear to God, you'd better kill me, Batman! Otherwise I'm gonna kill you! I'M GONNA KILL-!
- [Batman punches him unconscious]
- Dick Grayson: You know, I was just going to suggest you do that.
- [after Batman apologized to Jason Todd]
- Batman: Alfred. It's... I've found Jason.
- Alfred Pennyworth: Excuse me, sir, I must have misheard you. For a moment, I thought you said that you'd found Master Todd.
- Batman: You heard right.
- Alfred Pennyworth: My God. Is he alright?
- [Batman turns to see that Jason has fled]
- Batman: No. No he's not.
