A nice storyline, Marshall is way better.

An old friend of Fidel, Carlton is shot dead, during the showing of a well known, prized artwork. There is no shortage of suspects.

I enjoyed it, this was more story focused than the previous episode, and it felt as if Kris Marshall, had a much better deal, he felt like a well rounded, intelligent character, they had made him something of a fool during his first outing, I liked him here, he's cooky, but smart.

Who on Earth would want to kill a handsome escort, who's only goal in life was to make people happy? A nice storyline here.

A nice cast including the wonderful Sharon Small, Vinette Robinson and Josette Simon. Tristan Gemmill is somewhat wasted.

Is it a vintage episode? No way, but it's good. 7/10.

Just a gigolo

Warning: Spoilers
Steven Cole plays an "escort" (or gigolo to put it more bluntly) Carlton Paris, who is the victim in this episode, An Artistic Murder. Anyway, I've been reflecting on Death in Paradise recently, as I became a fan when it debuted over a decade ago with Ben Miller stamped his persona as the DI Richard Poole, against whom all future DIs would be measured against whether you like it or not init. Anyway, I would love to have learned more about the social lives of Humphrey Goodman's team, like what were their hobbies, did they enjoy being indoors or outdoors. Still, An Artistic Murder is worth watching.

best British detective show on TV

love this show--it's so Agatha Christie and as good--the plots are so right on--my dad was British and I think that he bathed in a 3piece worsted wool suit.love kris marshall--he looks as if he was made to solve all these amazing mysteries that they throw at him. fidel and his police pal are so funny--I have seen these two men be excellent in other mysteries-- the dichotomy between Camille and humph are perfect for each other--I just hope they dress her better as no one would believe that she holds an important position as she is dressed like a beach person.i almost died when fidel invited his boss to ride to the crime scene in his motorcycle-and they hit a mud puddle-and then another mud puddle.[

Okay at best!

Warning: Spoilers
The third season of "Death in Paradise" has not been impressive so far. "Death of a Detective" was good, though not great. "The Wrong Man" easily the weakest entry of the show. "An Artistic Murder" is better than the previous episode, but still not something to write home about.

Let's start with good, shall we?

. The production values are always great here. The episode looks and sounds good. The cast's good too. Kris Marshall is more comfortable in the role this time- still don't love his portrayal of the character though- and Gary Carr gives the best performance as Fidel- he was very good.

. There were some clever red herrings in the story and the premise of a gigolo case was fine to begin with.

That being said, there were many things, what I did not like...

. One of them being the fact that "An Artistic Murder" does not have much intrigue in it. The murder mystery is a run of the mill one with similar plot points (like the victim calls the police that he is going to be murdered) we have seen many times before.

.Most of the humor unfortunately falls flat in this episode. Marshall's clumsiness is not as funny as the makers of the show think they are.

. I was also let down by the solution, because the murderer turns out to be the least-focused character, who never really felt like a proper suspect.

Overall, an okay watch.
