amazing series, anime doesn't do it justice
cinmindog8 May 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I want to preface this by saying kagerou project as a whole is my favorite media series. it's amazing and well-written with engaging characters and an interesting storyline. if you've watched the anime and didn't enjoy it, i highly suggest you look into the manga and/or light novels. the anime was extremely rushed and had a low budget, and doesn't portray the storyline in a cohesive way at all. unless you have prior knowledge of the series (regardless of if its from the music, manga, or novels), its highly unlikely you're going to understand what's going on.

the art style will forever be a favorite of mine, and i'm still fascinated by how they portray memories. the heavy-hitting moments like ayano's death manage to convey the exact emotions they want to. the problem is that the story barely makes any sense to anyone unfamiliar with kagerou project. it's a wonderful anime and had great potential, but the lack of time completely ruined it. the last few episodes are especially rushed and make the least sense (especially episode 12! i genuinely didn't understand what it meant until i'd read the light novels), and the series honestly should've been split into at least two seasons to be able to properly do the story justice.

i personally love mekakucity actors, but i know the only reason i'm able to is because i understand what's going on. it's definitely worth a watch, but i recommend looking into the storyline beforehand, or watching it with someone who can explain what's happening

A somewhat confusing anime
Tweekums8 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This series follows a group of characters who each have a specific power. Our introduction to the group is through Shintaro; an eighteen year old hikikomori who is forced to go out for the first time in ages when he spills a drink on his keyboard and needs to replace it. The shop he goes to is taken over by a group of thieves but they are stopped by the "Mekakushi Dan"… the Blindfold Gang. They have powers related to their eyes; as does Shintaro. He is then 'recruited' into the group. Over the course of the series the group have a variety of encounters; these are frequently unrelated to what went on before.

When this series started I thought it was going to be just another 'people with powers' series; it is a bit different though as their powers tend to be less dramatic than most. Early on the story kept be gripped but I soon got confused trying to follow what was going on in each episode. Perhaps it is easier to follow if you watch several episodes at once rather than once a week mixed in with several other series! On the plus side I did like the look of the series. Overall it is hard to recommend as I found it confusing… but who knows, it might just be me; watch a few episodes and you might think it is good!

Good, but stands no where near the manga
quynhgiaocao14 May 2016
The anime is somewhat disappointed me, and stands no where near the manga (Kagerou days). The art was good, but not as the manga. The plot and way to described is too confused that I have to watch again three or four times to understand it. But the one which makes me disappointed the most was actually the music. I watch the project songs before and it's great (sang by the Vocaloids - IA and Miku) but the voice actor who sang those songs was ... Ughhh... So, at the end I think the manga was much better. If you are going to watch this, recommended you to watch the manga instead. The anime wasn't s good as I think, but still the plot was good.

Surprised by the other reviews, I actually liked it!

Warning: Spoilers
Now I do agree that it was confusing af on the first episode but I still enjoyed the curiosity and weirdness around it. When it does go into the 2nd episode, it won't feel as confusing anymore as it goes into detail with one of the characters. The whole series gives you "Penguindrum" vibes because both anime are so truly colourful and hip in their own way (although both do not have the same genres).

I like the fact that they tried to differentiate the characters and the typical superheroes we grew up watching. The characters on this series were born with superpowers, whereas the familiar likes of Batman, Superman, Spider-Man, you name it, developed their own superhero powers in let's say their teens - mid 20s (I'm just guessing here ok).

Anyways if you like anime with the superhero genre such as One Punch Man, Dragon Ball Z, Tiger & Bunny, etc, you gotta watch this underappreciated anime!

Just watch Episode 4
k-gordo1725 November 2015
The 6/10 represents the series as a whole. The show is a bunch of shorts loosely related to each other. Know that going in. Because of that, some shorts are going to be better than others. This is definitely the case here. I strongly recommend watching the fourth episode only, as it never gets better than that. I could barely finish the last few episodes. Points to soundtrack. The editing and pace of the show is a very strong plus. I wish more anime was like this, as most anime shows draw out dialogue and character and camera movements are really slow and stale. I hope more shows adopt this formula in the future.

Doesn't live up to the source material

Too confusing for anyone who hasn't read the manga, light novels, AND watched all the MVs. It had a lot of potential but it's just too hard to follow. It had its good points, but the closer to the end the more confusing it got. If you overlook your confusion throughout the whole season, the anime as a whole is all right. The animation is nice to look at. They picked good voice actors for the characters. And the covers of the songs were good. Still could have been a lot better.
