Weird and very interesting...

This is a very odd yet charming episode of "The American Experience" and it examines the life of Robert Ripley of "Believe it or Not" fame. The show follows the evolution of Ripley's sports column to his groundbreaking "Champs and Chumps" column to the "Believe it or Not" column. It also follows the life of the man and is an interesting portrait of a relatively common man who managed to create quite a niche for himself. There are a few interesting surprises--such as Ripley's secret researcher (Norbert Pearlroth) as well as the flamboyance that made him so famous. From broadcasting radio shows from caves to even under water--he was the consummate showman and the show does a great job in not only describing his life but in instilling a sense of wonder at his exploits. Very interesting to watch and well worth your time.
