One of the Terminator franchise's biggest commercial disappointments has found streaming success on Netflix. Since the first movie was released in 1984, there have been six Terminator movies and two television series in the long-running franchise. The franchise's first movie, directed and written by James Cameron, set the tone and established Arnold Schwarzenegger as the Terminator, along with presenting the now iconic characters of Sarah Connor and Kyle Reese.
The first sequel, Terminator 2: Judgment Day, is widely considered to be the franchise's best movie, along with being one of the best all-time movie sequels. None of the ensuing movies, released from 2003-2019, were able to reach the same level of acclaim as the original two installments. The franchise expanded onto television with Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, which aired from 2008-2009, along with Terminator Zero, an anime series that debuted on Netflix in 2024.

Carry-On, a film about traveling through the airport at Christmas, is on course to break into Netflix’s top ten films of all time.
The thriller, which stars Taron Egerton, Jason Bateman, and Sofia Carson, bested its performance last week by adding another 55M views on top of last week’s 42M number. It remains number one on Netflix’s weekly film charts, having already become Netflix’s biggest launch of a film this year.
Given that it has scored 97M views in its first ten days, Carry-On, which was directed by Jaume Collet-Serra and produced by Amblin Partners, it could well enter Netflix’s top ten films of all time. For reference, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery wrapped up 136.3M views in its first month to take the ten spot, Jennifer Lopez’s The Mother is number nine with 136.4M views, We Can Be Heroes got 137.3M for...

Lately, there are many stories on dysfunctional families being picked up by filmmakers. There have been many films and television shows in the last few years that have explored this theme, be it in comedy or a serious drama genre. Disaster Holiday, a South African Netflix Original, is about a workaholic father who is struggling to find the right balance between his work life and his children.
Spoilers Ahead
Was Joseph a workaholic?
Disaster Holiday began with Joseph rushing from his work to meet his wife, Nandi. Both were supposed to meet his children at school, but thanks to his non-stop work, they were late. His children, Zamo, Junior, and Lily, and ex-wife Dora were angry for obvious reasons and were losing hope in him even though he had planned a Zanzibar trip with them and Nandi. Dora asked him to be there for his children rather than work tirelessly.

Although the holiday season is typically defined by feel-good Christmas movies, Netflix is proving that this year is all about action thrillers such as Black Doves and Carry-On. In the month of December, the Keira Knightley TV show and the Taron Egerton movie have both made waves on Netflix's list of top trending movies and shows. With star-studded casts and unique premises, this isn't a complete surprise. However, both of these projects also raise questions about what audiences are looking for during the holiday season, and whether Christmas has an effect on these action-packed projects.
At the moment, Netflix's top 10 movies and shows represent a strange mix of holiday flicks, popular new releases, and intense action stories. For example, Carry-On is currently the #1 movie on Netflix, but it sits alongside projects like That Christmas, Barbie, Subservience, and Disaster Holiday. The TV line-up is even darker, with the disaster drama La Palma...

Blake Lively's controversial movie that made $351 million at the box office has landed on Netflix's global chart. The actress broke through in 2005 with her supporting role in The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants and returned for its 2008 sequel, The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2. However, Blake Lively gained further recognition for her role as Serena van der Woodsen in The CW's popular teen drama Gossip Girl from 2007 to 2012.
During and after Gossip Girl, Lively starred in several romantic comedies in supporting roles, such as the anthology New York, I Love You, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, and Woody Allen's Café Society. She also starred in several thrillers, Ben Affleck's The Town and Oliver Stone's Savages, and the superhero movie Green Lantern, where she met her husband, Ryan Reynolds. After several supporting roles, Lively went on to star as the lead in The Age of Adaline,...

Pablo Larraín’s opera biopic “Maria” is the latest and last of this year’s Netflix’s Oscar top Best Picture and acting contender films to stream on the service. And like “The Piano Lesson” and “Emilia Pérez” (never listed), “Maria” had a short shelf life among top-viewed titles. It debuted at #4, placed for two more days, then dropped off before this weekend..
The streamer continues to do very well in Oscar nominations and has won top prizes. But Netflix has so far failed to win Best Picture or either lead acting prizes. The company’s top contenders always get some theatrical play. But in that absence, how they do on the site remains a gauge of how popular they are, and public interest is always a nice arrow for any awards campaign to have in its quiver.
The VOD top 10s this week at iTunes (ranking by transactions daily) and Fandango are more conventional.

If Disaster Holiday was an American film, I’d have probably stopped watching it early on. In Disaster Holiday, a workaholic father wants to take his 3 children on vacation so he and his new wife can win them over, but when things get terrifying at work, plans change. Instead of telling his family that he might end up losing his job, Joseph decides to take them on a road trip instead, under the pretense that he will not be working and it’s simply his idea of a bonding exercise. Yes, this already sounds like a recipe for disaster, but the way things pan out is much worse than you’d imagine. Well, for Joseph and his family. I’m not going to lie; there are quite a few enjoyable moments in Disaster Holiday, specifically because all the actors look like they really had fun making this film. However, overall...

Rethabile Ramaphakela’s Disaster Holiday is a strainingly unfunny dramedy on parenting. How good a parent is is assessed by the emotional lives their children are able to develop. Do they have empathy and curiosity in equal share? Are they nice to the other with sincerity and not just to earn some added leverage? How does the crunch of a job weigh on regular choices the parent would have to be cautious and mindful of?
The film measures the impact of this balance. It talks of a father who habitually fails to strike the balance. The man is forever caught in the rat race of ensuring financial stability for his family, and his kids; he completely overlooks being by their side in the daily moments. He knows he has to provide and can’t risk the tough, poverty-stricken childhood he has seen at close quarters. Moreover, he is bent on...

“Disaster Holiday” is a Netflix comedy movie directed by Rethabile Ramaphakela starring Kenneth Nkosi, Lunathi Mampofu, and Kopano Mahlasi.
Netflix’s latest family comedy, “Disaster Holiday,” takes us on a familiar yet heartwarming journey through the ups and downs of a family vacation. Starring Kenneth Nkosi, this delightful film delivers exactly what it promises: a fractured family finding their way back to each other through a series of misadventures.
As the story unfolds, we’re introduced to a family struggling with the complexities of modern relationships. Divorced parents, children of various ages, and the challenges of blended families all come into play, creating a relatable backdrop for the ensuing chaos. The film doesn’t shy away from addressing these contemporary family dynamics, offering a refreshing take on the traditional family comedy genre.
While “Disaster Holiday” doesn’t reinvent the wheel, it certainly knows how to keep it spinning with charm.
