In this intricately plotted episode, NIS team member Vera (Diany Rodriguez) takes center stage as we find out more about her character as she renews her psychological study of the recurring character "Bugs" (Jared Bankens, truly spooky in this role), who's currently in prison for the murder case Franks solved involving the sniper known as "Sandman".

The quirks and problems of several other team members also surface, but a new case involving a marine reservist whose wallet was stolen is also significant, as Gibbs identifies with that marine's attachment to a photo of his military dad that he kept in the wallet. Even the most adept mystery aficionado will be hard-pressed to guess the plot twists that lead to this segment's shocking climax and tantalizing open ending.
