In one of the biggest anime news stories of this past week, beloved long-running anime series One Piece has returned from a months-long hiatus. With the debut of episodes 1123 and 1124 on Crunchyroll this past weekend, One Piece is once again airing new episodes weekly. Late 2024 was marked by both the One Piece anime and original manga series going on and off hiatus and by the manga's creator Eiichiro Oda dealing with ongoing health issues. Another sports collab is on the way for One Piece , which returns to the diamond for a partnership between Toei Animation and the Seattle Mariners. The latest MLB event— Seattle Mariners X One Piece Night —goes down on Tuesday, April 8 at T-Mobile Park during a game against the Houston Astros. The One Piece anime is preparing for a big spring season as Crunchyroll is announcing today the simulcast for the series will return with new episodes on the platform starting April 6! Back in December, One Piece locked in plans for another sports collab that has the series joining the Los Angeles Lakers for a game night in LA on February 28, 2025. With the event nearly upon us, more details have been unveiled, including a full visual and some of the exclusive merch that will be on hand. Towards the end of 2024, both the One Piece manga and anime series have been dealing with production hiatuses. The manga series, published in the pages of the iconic magazine Weekly Shōnen Jump, has gone on and off hiatus in late 2024 as series creator Eiichiro Oda has been dealing with health issues. Following the end of the first part of the Egghead Island arc with episode 1122, the anime adaptation announced a lengthy hiatus beginning in October 2024. Luckily, there's good news for One Piece fans in terms of updates for both the manga and anime series.

The One Piece manga's publisher, Shueisha, digitally publishes the series — along with other iconic series like Dragon Ball and Demon Slayer — through its Manga Plus website and app. Chapters are also available digitally — along with hard copies of the manga's collected volumes — through the English translator, Viz Media.

Every month, a new rendition of “We Go!” debuted as the opening tune for the One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga , the currently airing remastered version of the titular saga that was broadcast over a decade ago. The next two teams of artists to sing the iconic song were announced tonight, all of them hailing from VTuber agency Hololive, ready for the remixes release in February and March before the series returns for the second half of the Egghead Arc . In February, Maki Otsuki will team up with Fubuki, Houshou Marine and Tsunomaki Watame to perform “We Go!.” Mine Kushita, who composed “Dear sunrise” will once again be composing this version of the iconic opening. The song starts on the February 2 broadcast. Following the announcement of Kazuki Yao’s retirement from the role earlier this month , the One Piece Jump Festa 2025 stage event welcomed Subaru Kimura (Todo in Jujutsu Kaisen ) on stage to officially induct him into the Straw Hat crew as the new voice of Franky . As part of the baton-passing ceremony, a tribute to Yao’s contributions over the years was held along with fellow voice actors and audience members passionately producing Franky’s “Super” catchphrase and pose. The official YouTube channel for the seven-member Japanese dance and vocal boy band Be:first has started streaming a music video for their latest digital single song "Sailing." The song is now featured as the ending theme for One Piece Log: Fish-Man Island Saga , the special edited version of the One Piece TV anime's Fish-Man Island arc. The song was produced by Chaki Zulu , the producer of Be-first's previous digital single song "Bye-Good-Bye" and "Hush-Hush," and co-written by Satoru Kurihara (Jazzin'park), keyboard player Atsushi Inoue , and Sky-hi . One Piece may be known for its boats, but next year in Japan, Eiichiro Oda’s epic will also be synonymous with Shinkansen travel in the Sanyo region. The series will be getting three trains on the Shin-Osaka to Hakata line. Jr West announced on Friday that three Shinkansen will be decked out in One Piece drip, with the first train to set sail on the route in Spring 2025, lining up with the Osaka Expo that starts in April 2025. The first train, known as “Setouchi Blue,” is based on the Setouchi Sea, which Sanyo Shinkansen’s route runs parallel to, and is wrapped in a bright blue decal that features the Straw Hat crew. Designs for the train were released alongside a key visual of the collaboration and a logo that shows a blue Bullet Train bursting out of the One Piece logo. And no, these One Piece shinkansen can’t cross the Setouchi Sea!

For the first time in 25 years, the long-running, beloved anime adaptation of Eiichiro Oda's One Piece is taking a long hiatus. The break began immediately after the airing of Episode 1222, which had its broadcast debut on Oct. 13 and will continue until April 2025. This six-month break is completely new for fans of the anime who were watching weekly as the anime adapted the much anticipated Egghead arc. Toei Animation, the company behind One Piece, has stated that the break is to ensure that the quality of the rest of the anime improves dramatically from what it is right now.

Thankfully, One Piece won't be completely absent at this time. While the anime will be paused, the live-action series is still being filmed at the time of writing, and the manga will continue after Oda takes a two-week break. On the other hand, the anime will be re-airing remastered episodes of the Fish-Man Island Saga.

As that message spreads outside Eiichiro Oda’s manga series, the World Government is again trying to limit its reach in the newest trailer for the 110th volume of the One Piece epic, blanking out some crucial information about the Void Century. The trailer is paired with a large advertisement in the basement of Shibuya Station near the Denentoshi Line and exits A0 and A1. The advertisement is 21 meters long and features every panel from the volume, with the offending (to the World Government) panels blacked out. The official One Piece X (formerly Twitter) account announced alongside the release of this week’s Weekly Shonen Jump that Eiichiro Oda’s epic will be going on a two-week break while Oda is busy working on the second season of the One Piece live-action show. In place of the chapters, a special feature from the creator himself will be released each week. In next week’s issue, Oda will be showing off some “local souvenir presents” from around the world of One Piece while the week after will see Oda answering ten questions.
