In the true spirit of Indie movies, simple and enjoyable
eyefordetail8 July 2018
The reason I love indie movies is this: A story told without the budget to make a mediocre story look better with the glitzy tricks of post-production polishing. And this is a good example. A story. Some good characters. Some moments of good acting. Moments of laughter and touching moments. Yes, in all honesty mixed with some poor acting, some caricatures and some predictability. Which are all found in a series like Dynasty. At the end of the day, who really cares. You don't read James Joyce every day. Sometimes you just want a David Baldacci. This is not a brilliant movie by any stretch, but it is watchable and enjoyable.

Heartwarming and funny

Warning: Spoilers
I thoroughly enjoyed Texas Heart, I cried, I laughed. It's just a feel good movie all around. I enjoyed the court room scene in the beginning of the movie, when the main character was first threatened and left town. My favorite character in the movie was Tiger. The actor who portrayed him did a very good job of portraying a mentally challenged person. I knew he was innocent the whole time during his trial. I was happy the main character decided to represent Tiger and prove him innocent. The story line kept my attention during the whole movie. It's a good family movie. I thought the acting was very good through the whole movie.

I would highly recommend my friends and family to see Texas Heart.

Funny, heartwarming story of redemption
dwood19997 June 2016
I enjoyed watching Texas Heart, it had several funny moments and the joke about the pie is quite the zinger. With enough suspense to hold you until the end, you'll find some solid performances by the cast. What I particularly enjoyed was the performance of the mentally challenged Tigger. This could easily be an over the top SNL skit, but it was played with finesse and the proper tone. The dog kinda fell flat in his performance as Buddy. The lead actor, he was good too, but the thugs chasing him could have been more menacing, but the courtroom scenes come off as convincing.

Overall I recommend Texas Heart.

A movie that believes in fate
echapman720 January 2018
Might be what you'd get if Bill Forsythe's Local Hero ventured into John Grisham territory about a city slicker lawyer who finds his true purpose and redemption in a small Texas town. Heartfelt, soulful, gripping and gut-wrenching, Texas Heart grabs you with a tense, rapid fire opening courtroom scene and never lets go. It works so well because, as other reviewers have said, the script, acting, editing and overall production values (other than a tad underpopulated final courtroom scene) are all first rate. The dialogue really crackles. Favorite line: "That's what you get for messin' with Texas!" Great to see John Savage in a meatier role than his cameo in Return to Twin Peaks. Lin Shaye is a terrific, take-no-prisoners villain. The movie has a wonderful feel for small town life and great affection for its denizens, even the losers. It's like sinking into a great novel. The denouement is pretty damn unlikely but undeniably satisfying. Hey, it's a movie that believes in fate. And its heart, its great big Texas heart, is always in the right place.

Watch 10 minutes, and then YOU decide
fredwilharm26 September 2018
I watched a lot of indie films this week, including Texas Heart. I read all the good reviews and all the bad ones. I don't get the low reviews on this one. My barometer of a film is whether I can walk away from it part way through. Texas Heart wouldn't let me go get a snack, and that's an unusual thing. Some of the acting in the Southern town may seem exaggerated to those who don't live in one- but I live in a place where when you move in, someone may very well turn up on your front porch with a home backed pecan pie. The cinematography was top notch and the editing and pacing was spot on. A few weaknesses as in any indie film, but well worth your time to watch.

The story is beautiful, and the actors bring it to life.

I'm a indie film lover, and this is a gem. The story is beautiful, and the actors bring it to life. The movie is tense and unexpected. Erik Fellows does a stellar job in portraying the mob lawyer who has a chance of redemption in texas. Also, I felt specifically touched, as my deaf son was once suspected of having an autistic disorder, which made the film all the more beautiful for me. A must see.

Suspenseful and Heart-Warming Entertainment

A wonderful, character-driven story about a loveless mob lawyer on the lam who ends up in small town Texas hoping to reinvent himself (and stay clear of the pursuing mob). Terrific performances from relative newcomers Kam Dabrowski (as a mentally-challenged young man, Tiger), Erik Fellows (as Peter, the mob lawyer on the run), and Jared Abrahamson (playing the rebellious, volatile football star, Roy), along with truly memorable work by Johnny Dowers as the Sheriff, Susie McPhail as the 'Pie Lady', Blake Clark as the local barkeep/gun seller, Stid, and the incomparable Lin Shaye, of INSIDIOUS fame, (as Ms. Smith, the mob boss) and THE DEER HUNTER'S John Savage, as the alcoholic father--all this makes Texas Heart an emotionally involving ensemble film with committed actors directed by the energetic and amazing indie director, Mark David. A must-see!

"You can run forever. But you can't run from your heart." This beautiful movie is an emotional rollercoaster. Kam Dabrowski's acting was awesome! Wonderfully directed, starred and written.

A terrific movie
AtTheMovies5215 June 2019
This was such a good film. And not such a good film for being an indie film. But a good film because it was a good film! Tiger and Buddy were terrific fun. I enjoyed Erik Fellows' performance and Lin Shaye's too who thoroughly nailed her character. Casting did a great job with the actors. This film was fun from beginning to end. That's a compliment to good writing and a good Director. I really enjoyed the story and it moved along at a good pace. Clearly a thumbs up here for me.

Great performances, great script!
Anmer934 September 2019
A brilliant film! Great performances, great script, witty and moving. The story spans a number of different directions, following multiple characters and it's to the filmmakers credit that when the drama really comes knocking, you really give a damn. Again to make a film that takes you through such an array of different emotions is a real triumph. This independent production is worth the time!

Unique indie suspense film about small town USA
JGReviews13 September 2019
Texas Heart is an indie suspense film directed by Mark David. The plot concerns a man on the run who ends up in a small Texas town and ultimately finds an opportunity for personal redemption while he is there. I enjoy indie films like this that tell a unique story, this one about people in small town USA. There are a few recognizable actors, which is always fun, and some solid performances by others who I'm not as familiar with. If you're looking for an original indie film to watch tonight, maybe one with (Texas) heart, then I'd recommend checking out Texas Heart!

A heartwarming Feel_good Flic!
dderose-626-15721013 December 2018
It's tough to believe a movie this good only has 8 reviews. What's even harder to believe is why someone would only rank this film a 3 out of 10 claiming it is a big waste of time. I don't even think he bothered to watch it. Why would someone only write a 1 line review. That is not a fair review by any means.

This dramatic and often comedic movie portrays a little slice of Texas, it's people and it's hospitality. Juniper rubs off on one man in a very good way when he takes the time to open his eyes and look around, seeing a small town full of wonder people for the first time. The acting was, in my opinion, top-notch. The movie was engaging, funny and real. Spend a little time and watch Texas Heart; you'll be glad you did and then you'll tell your friends about it as well.
