Though horror icon George A. Romero sadly died last year, his children are ensuring that his iconic ‘Of the Dead’ franchise will keep shambling on.
We already know that George Cameron Romero is working on Rise of the Living Dead, a prequel to Night of the Living Dead set in the mid-1960s, and now his daughter, Tina Romero, is set to release her take on the franchise: Queens of the Dead, which she described in a chat with The Saunder Blog as “a fusion of two huge parts of my world: zombies and Gay nightlife.”
Hmm. That sounds a bit weird, but I’m listening. Tell me more Tina…
“It’s a tribute to my father as well as my entrée into the genre he grandfathered,” she said. “I can’t say too much yet, but what I can tell you is that this film will have all the hallmarks of a George A.

This title, which is currently in development, will be a prequel to his father's film, Night of the Living Dead (1968). Rise of the Living Dead has already been crowdfunded. And, one cast member has been attached, Dimitri Thivaios. As well, a concept poster is available here, with story details below. The film is set in 1962. When George A. Romero died in July, the world mourned a legendary filmmaker whose work proved to be so influential that the repercussions of his 1968 feature length debut, Night Of The Living Dead, can still be seen in cinema today. Indeed, Romero is often heralded as the ‘father of the zombie film,’ and with good reason – that debut feature created an entirely new sub-genre within the realm of horror, and made it the one of the most groundbreaking and subversive releases of its time, to boot.
As you may know, Romero’s son, Cameron, is also a filmmaker, and has a prelude to his father’s movie in the works – titled Rise Of The Living Dead – about which he has just given an update.
To recap, the younger Romero began an Indiegogo campaign in 2014 to fund the production of his script, which was then titled Origins. That fundraising campaign was successful,...

The son of director George Romero, Cameron Romero, is moving forward with his Night of the Living Dead origin film, which is apparently simply being called Origins.
The original Night of the Living Dead movie was released back in 1968, and the story follows seven people trapped in a rural farmhouse attacked by zombies. It was made on a budget of $140,000 and made over $30 million world wide. It’s a cult classic, and it spawned the zombie film genre.
The story for the origin film was developed by Cameron Romero, who is also set to direct from a screenplay he wrote with Darrin Reed and Bryce C. Campbell.
The project is set at the height of the Cold War, when one scientist tried to give the world its best hope for survival and instead unleashed its worst nightmare.

Yes, we all love zombies. We all know that they are a big business and we also know that much of the blame for the current form of zombies rests on the shoulders of horror master George Romero and his brilliant, low-budget 1968 flick Night of the Living Dead. Now, in the grand cinematic tradition of beating even dead things to death with a stick, there is going to be a Night of the Living Dead prequel called Origins and it’s going to start shooting in 2015.
Origins originates in the mind of Cameron Romero, the son of George Romero, who will be directing the feature. It focuses on events prior to those in Night of the Living Dead, as a scientist searches for a pathway to sustain human life in the event of a worldwide catastrophe. Things go terribly wrong (of course), and I guess that this guy winds up creating zombies.

In George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead, they watched the TV intently, wanting to know why the dead were walking just outside their boarded-up windows. Now, more than 45 years later, George’s son Cameron looks to explore the definitive answer to that question in Origins. A partially crowdfunded prequel to Night of the Living Dead, Origins now has another backer in Radar Pictures.
Variety reports that Radar Pictures will produce Cameron Romero’s Origins with production slated to begin this year. The father of the modern zombie, George A. Romero, first introduced us to the shufflesome ways of the undead way back in 1968 with his lo-fi classic, Night Of The Living Dead. Shot on a measly budget, the original movie followed two siblings who seek refuge in a nearby farmhouse as a zombie invasion takes hold. It’s a genre staple that has gone on to influence countless filmmakers, including Romero’s own son, G. Cameron Romero, who is now pledging to craft a prequel titled Origins.
What’s the name of the game then? Well, seems the younger Romero is intent on paying homage to his dad’s original movie, while also offering a new slant on the zombie trope:
“I want to take back the Zombie Genre in the name of the Legacy that my father created almost 50 years ago,” says Romero. “I want to tell the Origin story of the modern zombie,...

Way back in 1968, filmmaker George A. Romero unleashed a creation that would become a pop culture staple of the horror genre: zombies. Night of the Living Dead was the first film to introduce the concept of dead rising from the graves as mindless, brain-hungry monsters, chasing the living. Since the, Romero hasn't really been able to duplicate the iconic success he achieved decades ago, though he's tried to continue his love of horror with sequels as recent as a few years ago like Diary of the Dead and Survival of the Dead. Now his son is trying to follow in his footsteps with a prequel simply called Origins, but he needs help. Romero's son Cameron Romero is trying to crowdfund the film on Indiegogo, and here's the pitch: The film, which is being backed by the horror fanatics at Bloody Disgusting, is described like this: Origins takes place in the...
