Evangelical Christian-themed drama
gsaint0930 June 2019
TAPESTRY is a Evangelical Christian-themed drama that repeats the plots of many other Evangelical Christian films: bad things happen to a very good Christian person and that person copes by adopting an Evangelical Christian worldview., These films comfort believers by buttressing their existing beliefs, whilst attempting to entice troubled non believers into adopting Evangelical Christianity as an answer to their problems. Producers, directors, and investors of these films, themselves Evangelical, focus on their messianic message whilst all other aspects of filmaking are given short shrift. This film no exception. Believers are comforted whilst others might come away disappointed as the film itself is so poorly executed. I should note here that Morman Church affiliated production companies put out scores of this genre promoting the Morman-Christian worldview, but with more money so production values are somewhat better.

Tapestry touches on themes everyone can identify with - life, family, love, work, redemption - woven into a tapestry of story that everyone should see. It's a heart-warming drama that keeps you engaged from beginning to end. I highly recommend it.

Wanted to like it

But it is just too hard to get past the bad acting, the narration that gives TMI. It's boring. I can't give a spoiler, because I couldn't make it to the end.

"Tapestry" is a heartwarming film not to be missed!
JTLance8429 June 2019
"Tapestry" is a touching story that will resonate with viewers. A modern retelling of Job, it clearly shows that no one is immune to the trials and tribulations in life. Actors Stephen Baldwin, Tina Louise and Burt Young held my attention throughout and I also enjoyed the story penned by Rob DePalo. The visuals at the beginning and end of the film were "heavenly" (sorry---I couldn't resist) as well as the use of "angels" in this tale. Check out this wonderful film for yourself and be blessed in the process!

"Tapestry": Weaving a Message of Inspiration & My Interview with Writer/Producer Rob DePalo
jtncsmistad21 March 2020
I lost my mom this week. Before that I lost my job. The former far outweighs the latter. And you may have heard, we're in the throes of a worldwide pandemic. If ever there was a time for "Tapestry", this would be that time.

I spoke with Writer/Producer Rob DePalo about his moving film.

*What inspired you to turn your life's struggles into a screenplay and ultimately into a motion picture?

I think at first writing about my struggles was a way for me to get my angst out from within me. Sort of like sitting on a couch and telling a psychiatrist, I basically used the pages of my story as a way to release the sadness from within my heart. After sharing the story with a coworker (Mike Yacovone), he was touched by what I had written and turned to his long-time friend Ken Kushner who was a film producer and the three of us decided to go forward with "Tapestry" as a full-length feature.

*When did God and His Love become genuinely real in your life?

I had an epiphany when I wandered into a bar on Staten Island New York some years ago. I had hit rock bottom and really went into that bar kind of as a last gasp attempt at finding some comfort.

It turned out I ran into an old friend in the bar and he gave me a little tough love about what I had become and how I needed to find purpose through writing. I truly feel this event was orchestrated by God to help me find my meaning in life. What I thought at first was a crazy coincidence actually turned out to be the hand of God at work.

*Stephen Baldwin is remarkable in "Tapestry". I've seen him in other faith-based work, as well. He always resonates as genuine. Never forced, or overdoing. Please comment on Stephen's performance if you will.

I think Stephen captured the essence of the character which is based largely on events in my own life. I suffer from Depression and I know what it is like to want so badly to get out of a funk but lack the energy, the will or the path to get to a better place. Baldwin captured that sense of hopelessness so well. He is a tremendous actor who gives a multi-dimensional understated performance. He is every man that wants to do well in the world yet often meets with challenges. It is hard not to root for his character thanks to his fine work in the film.

*Tina Louise is a revelation here. Talk about genuine. Everything she does is so natural and unpretentious. Her scene in the park with Stephen is one of the most real and moving moments I've ever seen in a film. And I've watched a lot of movies. How did Tina come to be involved in your project?

Yes Tina was wonderful and much of her work in the movie was of her own creation. She was very instrumental in creating the dialogue for that and some other scenes. She also worked very well with director Ken Kushner who is a big believer in abandoning script at times for much more unrehearsed scenes. With someone as talented as Tina, it is easy to trust her instincts. After we had signed Stephen back in 2013, Tina had heard about the film and wanted to be part of the project because of Baldwin and the family-oriented and spiritual messages of "Tapestry". When she read for the part, myself and about seven other grown men involved in the production had tears in our eyes. She was meant to play "Rose."

*What do you want the lasting message of "Tapestry" to be, Rob? Particularly in the lives of non-believers and skeptics?

Much like the character "Ian" who was played by legendary film veteran "Burt Young" I hope that some non-believers will feel the power and goodness of God which comes through in the film. Maybe people who have moved away from God like Burt's character can lean back in the direction of God. I also hope that sufferers of depression and other mental illnesses can take some solace in knowing that we all have problems and they are not alone.

I watched "Tapestry" the evening before my mother passed. I now don't believe by coincidence.

Can I get an "Amen"?

Good film
albert-cortina18 January 2019
I enjoyed the movie and felt that Baldwin, Young and Louise elevated the film and delivered the intended message. The ability to improvise by these veterans is visible and effective. Would have liked more script, less narration as I felt it was disruptive. References to good/bad were too obvious (trust the audience to pick up on these). I also felt that Ms. Louise's Voice as Rose, the narrating character would have delivered a much more spiritual and soothing narration.

Office politics as it really is!
HoosierBob1 July 2019
As the story unfolds we might suspect this story was written more from true life experiences than the writer might have intended. The main character is a very successful cog in the great wheel of his employers' firm until several less successful supervisors conspire to blame their incompetence on the main character, and as in too many real offices, the good guy must be the "scapegoat". Unable to accept that "bad things happen to good people", and with no experience at being shunned when he is still the same super successful person he was a short week ago...he is now forced to struggle with some new challenges...and learn who he can *really* count on to be by his side.

Yes...I would take the entire family to see this film, if for no other reason than to prepare my kids for the fact that nothing in this world is guaranteed...even when all logic would tell you being an excellent employee should equal "job security".

Authentic

Tapestry is a movie that beats from the heart of authenticity. An average man, with everyday problems. We need movies that are relatable like this. We need to know that surrendering to Christ is when we win!

Tapestry

An in- depth exploration of complex family and business relationships in the face of an imminent death in the family and the pressures of 'pliable' corporate ethics. The challenges of personal Faith are highlighted with strong performances by a sensitive cast.

Raw Brilliance
twrdhw17 July 2019
In many respects, TAPESTRY has become my new, favorite film.

In my opinion, TAPESTRY also just became the new litmus test for evangelism where filmmaking is concerned.

TAPESTRY is #RAWbrilliance. I need to see it with my boys.

Were there a couple wrinkles production wise? Sure, but TAPESTRY still crushes even the very idea of a FAST N FURIOUS 27 or watching THE "ROCK" jump from a 100 story building and live. Sorry, so over HOLLYWOOD at this point. #Not sorry

Grateful that TAPESTRY exists. #TISaGodthing

Excellent Story
steven-6862311 December 2019
I loved the movie more than I'd thought. I give the story a 10. When you watch Christian movies it's more about the story and allowing Christ to speak to you through the film and not so much the acting or action. The movie is relatable to us in different ways so allow him to speak to you and obey his voice when he does!

Review from a regular movie watcher.
stephen_burnett2 September 2019
As far as the movie is concerned, I enjoyed watching this film. Stephen Baldwin did an excellent job. Compared to other films in this genre, it holds its own. It is worth watching and adding to your annual faith based movie list. If there is a choice between this one and the Left Behind Remake, I would definitely choose this one.

Meaningful
StephanieEve18 August 2019
We are all equal in life's sometimes unexpectedly experiences both good and bad no one escapes it. And or maybe just the daily monotony of life's ups and downs for both believer and non- believer. This movie shows that. We need to unite despite our beliefs. I Love meaningful movies and hope more money will be available for them so that the story can be clearly told, understood and have full body to them. Every part, cast, crew, costume, stage design, lighting, ect. counts! I'm so proud of the writers Rob DePalo, Ken Kushner and very talented actors that CHOSE to make this movie. Steve Baldwin, Tina Louise, Burt Young, Joseph Donofrio just to name a few. It really inspires me as a new actress still learning the craft!

Wonderful Movie
rockrobinson-3403025 September 2019
This is must view in the Christian film industry. Life's hardships may meet you when you least expect them; or when you believe that you're least prepared for them. But God always meets you right where you are. Stephen Baldwin (Ryan) doesn't just portray a man going through these struggles, he represents the brokenness that we all encounter in our daily walk. Indeed, there are no coincidences, but rather our lives are hand sewn by God, into this beautiful Tapestry.

God, Family, Values and a Message
tgl-6705226 March 2019
Tapestry has a great message that shines throughout the moive. It is evident that God, family and how we handle life is made simple and easy to understand in this moive. The advice is there for the taking. Ryan's life goes from good to bad in the flash of an eye with problems that we can all relate to sometime in our life. Ryan struggles to find the answers and watching it I could feel his pain, disappointment, joy and sorrow. I loved the progression of his life and the end was exactly right. This moive truly portrays a tapestry and is a must watch for all Christians and non-believers as well. Please put this one on the top of your to watch list.
