Don't read if you haven't seen the movie yet. Acting is almost OK but the story has many holes. It is watchable but not a great movie at all, ...

The guy who killed her dad is just too stupid to be real... Also I don't get it why did she have to burn the place down - she drew unnecessary attention. And then she even used her father's gun and left it with one bullet less in the house!! And then she is stupidly rude with father's lover, housemade.WHY???? I like the end, she's not crazy after all just pretending to get away from the charges of double murder... And one thing's kind of left in the air is;, have they confirmed another testimony ?

villainy rooting interest
SnoopyStyle4 February 2018
Callie Ross (Elizabeth Gillies) is stealing and getting fired in her aimless life. She steals her petty criminal boyfriend Jake's truck. With nowhere to go, she decides to go home. Her father, who originally cut her off, had a vegetative stroke. Despite her stepmother Emma (Cynthia Stevenson) and half-sister Laura Ross (Tori Anderson)'s open arms, Callie sees an opportunity to seek revenge for her mother who committed suicide.

Trying to tell a story from the villain's side is always difficult and infinitely fascinating. It's different from other Lifetime TV movies in that the female lead is not a victim. In fact, I expected a tale of sexual abuse by the father. I guess it's interesting that it does not go down that path. It would elevate the stakes if the money amount is bigger. The style is strictly Lifetime TV. The switch does leave a confused rooting interest and resign this to a limited idea. Gillies has a damaged bratty beauty persona. She needs to spice it up with some more volatile violence. She needs to single white female this more.

Dressed to Kill Daddy
wes-connors8 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
After she is fired for stealing money from the cash register, voluptuous waitress Elizabeth Gillies (as Calista "Callie" Ross) leaves Independence, Missouri to live with her wealthy father in Philadelphia. Previously, he had Ms. Gillies institutionalized. She blamed daddy William R. Moses (as George A. Ross) for the death of her mother, after which Gillies began cutting herself. Returning home, Gillies learns Mr. Moses has suffered a stroke and is confined to his bed, unable to speak. Gillies decides to take revenge on her millionaire father and overcome the fact that he has disinherited her. One obstacle is dutiful housekeeper Cynthia Stevenson (as Emma Granger), who has become very close to her employer. Another problem arrives in the form of muscular "bad boy" Sebastian Pigott (as Jacob "Jake" Walkins), who wants a piece of the action. Tightly-dressed and fond of the low-cut look, Gillies is an attractive and engaging vixen. She reaches all the right notes as a sexy "Lifetime" TV Movie psycho, without getting too hammy. We almost forget Moses is a multi-millionaire with no facilitated communication. He has great facial and eye movement, but is unable to give any indication something is wrong.

***** Killing Daddy (7/5/14) Curtis Crawford ~ Elizabeth Gillies, Cynthia Stevenson, Sebastian Pigott, William R. Moses

Over the top in the first ten minutes.

Warning: Spoilers
I realize this is a villain we're supposed to root for, but the acting is too much for me. It's Lifetime caliber, but take it down a notch. It's always an eye roll moment for me when kids consider themselves entitled to their parents' money. To the point of murder. I realize that it happens in real life, but it's not a worthy motivation in movies. Additionally, it's hard to sympathize with someone who's a thief, scammer, user, and from the early minutes is just a bad person. I don't think a bad relationship with Daddy is a reason to treat others poorly. The opening moments show she's a brat. She gets fired for stealing but then instead of taking responsibility, she gets mad at her boss because he has cameras in his restaurant and she calls him a perv and destroys property. She runs out on paying her rent and steals a vehicle in the process. What was she doing with the money she stole? People like this are extremely hard to root for. Compounded with over the top acting, it's already hard to sit through this.

I think revenge stories can be interesting. A Father's Nightmare was quite good. A more recent movie, My Father's Other Family, was very good with a very believable "origin" story for the villain. There's another fun one called Mad Mom that is revenge-ish. But the problem with this movie is that Callie is just a horrible person. It would almost be one thing if she was laser-focused on destroying her dad for his perceived wrongs, but she destroys so much else JUST because she wants her way. That is the definition of a brat, and she's not even neat or calculating with it. She makes so many obvious mistakes, did she even think this through or expect to get away with it? It's also extremely cliche when the black sheep of the family has literal black hair. Or dark brown versus their golden-haired sibling. And don't forget Lifetime goth with dark makeup, nails, and clothes. I'm not against letting the villain be a villain asap, however this movie would have been more interesting and less like the norm had they gone more subtle with a lot.

And honestly....if they wanted us to believe childhood trauma is why she is the way she is, why did this all boil down to money? More often than not, these movies are light on the villain motivation and this is no exception. It would almost be more interesting if once her father cut her off, instead of lashing out, she made something of herself WITHOUT his help. Then the movie could have played out with his stroke and she could have come home, still harboring her bratty feelings, and enacted her "plans," in a more calculating way. But then that would have called for subtle acting and that's definitely not what we got.

If you can get through the fifteen minute tantrum at the beginning, you might be able to finish it. I just happened to record this on Lifetime this evening and didn't realize it was from 2014. I have no idea who this actress is. Judging from IMDb, I maybe have seen her in an episode of White Collar, but the only reason I kept watching was bc the reviews seemed to focus on her. It was just too much for me.

Also Lifetime's penchant for just throwing villains in mental institutions....sometimes they just belong in jail. I think Lifetime falls back on too many of their villains being "crazy," when most of them just need to be held responsible for their crimes.

Viewers Will Get A Real KILLING After Watching This Film
RECB37 September 2023
This was a great film. I enjoyed watching it. Elizabeth Gillies was a terrific selection for the lead. I thought that the storyline was terrific. There was some room for improvement but it was still good. Some parts of this film are slow. This film reveals to viewers a real close insight and depth of mental and psychological health. There are multiple issues out in the world that not many people are aware of.

For instance, I have had a rare syndrome since I was born. The topic of the rare syndrome that I have and other rare syndromes are not discussed nor heard about much. Health issues need to be heard more around the world. This film reveals a small fraction of that. Viewers would learn and enjoy watching this film.

Gillies is the saving grace of this movie. 'Nuff said.
firebolt-0551730 September 2020
Callie (played by Elizabeth Gillies) is pretty much the only character that is fleshed out to some extent and have an actual personality. Every other character feels too much like your typical Lifetime side characters. They're just there to move the story from Point A to Point B or contribute nothing at all.

As a whole, the movie is FAR from perfect, but due to Gillies' exceptional acting and expressions, the movie is quite enjoyable whenever she's on the screen.

Puerile daddy complex over dramatized.
fiddleferme13 July 2014
Vapid characters and acting. 2/3 through the movie I reviewed the IMDb user reviews to see why it got a 7.0 rating and only then decided to finish watching it. Characters are shallow and under developed with clichéd performances....interest in movie relies upon plot twists from left field....actually; couldn't wait for it to be over. Might appeal to the under 16 yr old crowd. Waste of bandwidth and a movie to be totally forgotten in cinematic history. :( I enjoy all sorts of low budget thrillers; but this one is a high budget non movie. I can't understand why it has a 7.0 rating here. Usually I rely on the IMDb ratings but in this case we are totally at odds.

Best movie so far for outstanding Liz Gillies
Frederique146 July 2014
Killing Daddy is an intense drama about a young girl, Callie, with deep psychological problems who wants revenge for what her father did to her and her mother. It's a beautiful, intense and also a sad story, well written and very well performed. Callie is played by Elizabeth Gillies and she really has done an amazing job. It's really impressive how she manages to play a very disturbed girl in a way that makes you relate to her and feel with her. This lifts this what otherwise would be a typical lifetime movie to a different level. Gillies is able to make Callie a versatile character both strong and vulnerable, and this makes it to me her best movie so far. It shows her potential to become a very big star in the future, no doubt about that.

Offensive take on mental health
book-1121015 February 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This movie stereotypes suicide and mental health down to the repetitive "you're crazy" lines, ending with the main character saying, "yes I'm crazy." The lack of direct acknowledgement of a specific mental health issue paints all people with mental health issues as delusional and enforces problematic stigma. It's a lifetime movie to skip, even when you love movies you hate. The rest of the movie, storyline, and acting isn't worth acknowledging. It was made in 2014, and that's where it needs to stay.

Warning: Spoilers
Killing Daddy is no question my favorite Lifetime movie ever. The intense, dramatic story and the brilliant acting of main character Liz Gillies make this one very special. I love how from the beginning you can see how disturbed main character Callie is, she really is crazy, yet you also fully understand why she feels the way she does about her family.

The story is completely about how Callie tries to get revenge on her father and there are whole scenes were she is the only one, I think Callie is in 99% of the scenes. This is very well done by Liz Gillies, who does an extreme good job, very impressive.

The end is quite sad, as can be expected from a Lifetime movie but it's yet more prove of Liz Gillies talent that she makes you wish things would have ended better for Callie.

Ugh
geoffox-766-41846713 June 2015
Horrible film and certainly bad acting. Stupidity seems to be the theme in this film. Stupid caretaker who seemed empty headed when everything was falling around her. Not a clue. And always talking like an Evangelist. The unsuspecting sister stupid not to know from behavior of the psycho sister that trouble was on the way. The father, played by William Moses, not able to tell the bitch off.

That leaves the psycho, over played by someone named Giles. Walking around snarling at everyone, clueless of her intentions, in low cut blouses pushing her breasts in your face. Overly made up, you want to wipe the stuff off her face and clean her up. And mostly you cannot wait for her up pence. It's a good LMN movie because of the stupid script and bad acting. Like something so bad you can't put it down. You hate yourself afterwords for even watching it. My vote is zero for this is truly one of the worst films LMN has offered in a long time. And Giles - these other viewers must be blind and deaf to think she deserves any mention at all. Folks, are we watching the same trashy film?

Horrible
cpaliotta-3023617 June 2023
Elizabeth Gillies played the same way she did in Victoria. Nothingness. Too bad there isn't more of her talent, if any, she was just dead in this movie. Put her on list as "bad" actresses who keep getting scripts and don't belong. I watched it to see if this person has any human emotions--as she played in Victoria, she did same in this movie. There are many more talented, not known actresses out there that could play the part "thousand times better"...yet you use this non-talented actress...Get rid of these type of fakes and bring in new talent! There those who have had small parts should've been casted.

best TV movie I've ever seen
willowavery20 July 2014
I totally agree with the good reviews this movie got. Killing Daddy's easily the best TV movie I've ever seen. Interesting plot, and very good acting of the main character. I love how the story is told from Callie's point of view so you relate to her even though she is the 'bad guy' (well, girl) in the story. Elizabeth Gillies', who plays Callie, acting is outstanding, she's the other reason you completely relate to Callie. Very well done. The story has a good build up and leads to a dramatic finale. It really captured me and I was really impressed both by the story as the acting. Killing Daddy is my new favorite TV movie! I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes a good psychological thriller/drama.

Great movie with impressive Elizabeth Gillies
heatherfoxgirl18 August 2014
I simply am in love with this movie. I really hope it will be released on DVD so I can watch it as many times as I like. It is an intense story about family, psychological disorders, love and revenge. A cliché lifetime movie? Could have been if it was not for Elizabeth Gillies who plays main character Callie Ross. Gillies really lifts this movie to a higher level, her acting is brilliant. She makes Callie a multi dimensional character, not just the crazy girl, but also likable and funny. That makes you feel sympathy with her even though she makes all the wrong choices. I was really deeply impressed with Liz' acting, she did an outstanding job.

An Ungrateful Wretch
lavatch9 March 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Like her mother, Calista "Callie" Ross was mentally ill. After the mom committed suicide, Callie was institutionalized and given proper medication. But after getting off her meds, the old Callie returned with a vengeance. She is mad at the world, and there will be a steep price to pay for those who get in her way.

We first meet Callie in Independence, Missouri, where she is fired from her waitress job for dipping into the cash register. She then steals the truck of her sleazy boyfriend Jake. Eventually, she returns to her family home in Philadelphia where she will hatch a diabolical plan to murder her father, who is incapacitated by a stroke.

Callie's most ingenious ploy was to seduce the family attorney, Hanover, then blackmail him into changing her father's will. After Jake suffocates George Ross, it looks as if Callie's devious plan has succeeded.

But Callie has not counted on the efforts of the dearest character in the film, Emma Granger, the kind housekeeper and possible lover of George Ross. Emma, who helped to raise Callie after her mother's suicide, discovers Callie's scheme and confronts her in the tension-filled climactic scene.

The performances were first-rate in keeping this potboiler engaging. The actress playing Callie was eerily convincing. Veteran actor and Lifetime fan-favorite William R. Moses has the unenviable task of playing the bedridden and mute father.

From start to finish, Callie was an incorrigible and ungrateful wretch. Narcissistic to the degree that she could not see that the people in her family truly cared about her, Callie lapsed into a world of delusion and self-deception. By the denouement, it finally appears that she will be getting the help that she needs.

Loved every second f it
kimmelien16 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This is a great TV movie, I really loved it. The story is very interesting. Callie has witnessed the suicide of her mother when she was just a little kid. After that, her father put her in an institution cause he thinks she is as crazy as her mother was. Later he cuts her of financially so she has to make it on her own, even cutting her out of his will. But things change when Callie finds out her father is very ill. Now it's time to get revenge! What I love about the story is that you really feel sympathy for Callie, although she is the one plotting murders and blackmailing people. But who could blame her after what she's been through? Elizabeth Gillies (who plays Callie) acting is very impressive, she can show multiple emotions in one look and that is exactly what gives Callie that extra dimension, both crazy and angry but also hurt and sad at the same time. Gillies did an excellent job and that makes this movie worth a 10 to me.

Outstanding Performance
Lobke67 July 2014
When you hear "Nickelodeon's Liz Gillies" it automatically wires your brain to think "horrible acting", which is understandable if you've seen some of the shows they put on their channel. However, in this case you couldn't be more wrong. Gillies' performance is near perfection in Killing Daddy (not unlike any other of her projects i.e. Victorious and Animal). Her acting makes it all seem so real and it really makes you feel what she's feeling- as other people have mentioned in their reviews- especially near the end. Not only is the acting above exceptional, but the plot is everything I've ever dreamed to have been. Killing Daddy is like a fanfiction story come to life, but not the shitty kind like 50 Shades of Grey came to be. It's a story that everyone can become interested in because we love the sick idea of it. It's always been in our imagination, but it's finally come to life. And even better than that, the movie is realistic. While watching, you will not roll your eyes at how "cheesy" or " predictable" it is. There's nothing cheesy nor predictable about it, there were twists and turns here and there, but at the same time they weren't so drastic to make you think it's stupid. If you don't believe me, watch the movie. You won't be disappointed!

Very interesting story and good acting
caseyhayes268 July 2014
Warning: Spoilers
Killing daddy is a very interesting story about a young girl with deep psychological problems. As a kid, Callie saw her mother suffering sort like problems ending in committing suicide, leaving Callie to find her mom's body. Now is the interesting question: did Callie already suffer from the same problems her mother had as if it's some biological problem, or did she become like this because of all she suffered? Her father seems to think the former, making her leave the house and cutting her of completely instead of trying to help her. For me, I think it's more the latter, because who wouldn't turn out like that when you see your mother's suicide and your father abandons you? No surprise grown up Callie returns burning for revenge, I can't blame her. I think it's a really interesting story about psychological problems and dysfunctional families. The acting is very good, especially main character Callie played by Liz Gillies does an outstanding job. I would recommend it to anyone, it sure gives you food for thought.

Watch it for Liz Gillies

If you're a huge fan of Liz Gillies (as I am), this is a must see movie. Thanks to to her, this rises above the usual blah Lifetime movie. Credit whoever did the casting for this, would have rated a lot lower if one of the usual Lifetime regulars had played the Callie role.

Great T.V. movie and a stand out performance from Gillies.

Warning: Spoilers
Great movie and good acting, very underrated movie. Liz Gillies did great here, you wouldn't know that she used to be on the atrocious show that was Victorious on Nickelodeon. If Gillies was looking to break out of Nickelodeon and out of all the little kid stuff then she did it here. I would definitely check this one out. (Spoilers) The movie is about a woman called Callie who appears to have lost her way in the world but seemingly had some problems emotionally and mentally as a child. She is estranged from her dad but returns upon hearing that he has had a stroke and with no where else to go. Callie returns and is want very badly to make her father feel all the pain that she felt before. So is Callie really mentally unstable or is she really justified in all this?

Great Movie!!!!
crisgarcia305 August 2014
Warning: Spoilers
I thought this was a great movie for it being lifetime. I'm not much of a lifetime fan. But Liz Gillies did a great job on the character she played. The nanny that took care of her as a child did a great job as well.

I thought even though she was evil, she can definitely play bad girl parts pretty good. Callie Ross has a past that I wish they explored a bit more. It seems that as a little girl she didn't seem insane. But anyway the ending made it sad for me too.

I also have to say I felt chills when I saw bits and pieces of her past as a kid, I think she started going nuts after her mother died.

I think in a way I was hoping she would have fought her craziness so she didn't end up like her mother did.

At the end it seems like they leave it off as a cliff hanger to maybe give a hint of a sequel?

Definitely two thumbs up!
