Pointlessness is the point, clever by refusing to engage with cleverness.

Solid.

Cinematography is more than fine, acting is the same, plot is non-existent: a boy is brought to a race by his father, who pins a number to his back- and then disappears. The boy nevertheless begins to run. The film witnesses a part of the very long journey he takes.

That's about it.

So why make this film? What was the point? Nothing clever was expressed, very little resolved, though very little existed to have been resolved. So, like, why is this film here? Why does the film exist at all?

Why am I bothering to review this film?

In only slightly altered form, these are the same questions posed by the runner. The film cuts abruptly from the youthful runner to exhausted middle-aged runner to elderly runner, perhaps showing the few moments in his life when the runner pauses to question his existence. Why does he exist? What is he trying to do? The runner only occasionally allows himself to entertain such notions and immediately moves past them; this refusal to engage with these questions leads to an inevitable conclusion.

Satisfying by refusing to give a satisfying ending, everything in this cohesive little film works to advance it's overall thesis.

Probably more like a well earned 8 stars, but as I'm the only person, probably ever, likely to review this film: why not?

10 out of 10.
