Exclusive: Kit Harington (Game of Thrones) and Billy Magnussen (Roadhouse) have been set to star in Steve Pink’s out-there horse racing comedy Chariot.

This sounds a fun one. The synopsis reads: “Paul Rovia, an oversized jockey, seeks redemption after causing a major racing accident that gets him suspended from the sport for two years. Desperate to compete in the Grand National again, Paul teams up with Kate O’Leary and her wild Centaur named Chariot. Paul and Chariot clash at first but eventually form an unstoppable duo, taking the racing world by storm.”

Pink is known for writing Grosse Pointe Blank and High Fidelity and directed Hot Tub Time Machine, About Last Night and most recently The Wheel.

The Exchange is launching worldwide sales on the movie at the upcoming American Film Market. The sales deal was negotiated by Brian O’Shea on behalf of The Exchange and by Lastine Entertainment Lawon behalf of the filmmakers.

Well, recent news broke out that Reacher star Alan Ritchson is going to get kidnapped in his upcoming film called Painter.

Just a few days ago, we heard that Reacher star Alan Ritchson is teaming up with Need for Speed and Expendables 4 director Scott Waugh for an action thriller called Runner, and now Deadline reports that Ritchson has also signed on to star in an action film called Painter, which will team him with Prey star Amber Midthunder and John Wick writer Derek Kolstad. The project is set up at FilmNation Entertainment‘s production label Infrared, and FilmNation will be launching distribution sales at the upcoming American Film Market in Las Vegas.

Former stuntman Garrett Warren, who served as stunt coordinator on the likes of Logan, Avatar, Alita: Battle Angel, and Road House, will be directing the film. Although Warren is also attached to direct a true crime drama called One Man’s War, it looks like Painter will turn out to be his feature directorial debut.

The world is on fire. Innocent people are dying. Hurricanes are ripping away homes. Fascism looms large. Parker Finn’s “Smile” movies don’t tackle our global anxieties directly but they do understand that seeing someone happy in the early 21st century is deeply disturbing. The only reason some could possibly have to smile this wide, to Finn’s way of thinking, is if they were a demon from hell.

The original “Smile” hit like a ton of bricks. The film starred Sosie Bacon as a therapist who witnesses a patient killing themselves while grinning ear to ear. She’s so disturbed by the incident that she starts seeing smilers everywhere, only to discover that it’s not in her head. She’s been cursed by a demon who feeds on anguish and drives people mad over the course of six days, before leaping to somebody else in another shocking act of violence.

Chloë Grace Moretz, Anthony Ramos, Manny Jacinto, Isabel May, Lukas Gage and Billie Lourd are headlining the Joey Power directed and written romantic comedy, Love Language from Caviar.

Caviar is arranging full financing of the project. Cameras will roll in mid-October in Chicago, Illinois. CAA Media Finance is representing the U.S. rights to the film.

Love Language is produced by Ari Lubet for 3 Arts Entertainment, Colin Jost and Jeff Grosvenor for No Notes Productions, and Bert Hamelinck and Allison Hironaka for Caviar. EPs are Michael Sagol of Caviar and Tyson Bidner.

Amazon Ads is expanding Prime Video’s limited advertisements to new markets in 2025, including Brazil, India, Japan, the Netherlands and New Zealand.

If you're DC Studios, the film, television, and video game company tasked with exploiting the massive roster of DC Comics characters for our entertainment and their financial gain, you obviously want your excitable fanbase focused right now on what's to come rather than what's been -- because outside of Christopher Nolan's Batman trilogy and Patty Jenkins' "Wonder Woman", Todd Phillips' "Joker" (we'll get to its sequel in a moment), and Matt Reeves' "The Batman," what DC Studios (former DC Films) has been is a complete and totally aimless disaster. Chad A. Verdi of Verdi Productions and Anthony Gudas and Aaron Kaufman of Public School Productions have partnered with producers John Scalise, Keanu Reeves and Fisher Stevens to produce “The Jet,” a documentary on the life story of Benny “The Jet” Urquidez.

The film is currently in production from director Jennifer Tiexiera. Verdi, Gudas, and Kaufman will join Reeves, Maura Anderson, Zak Kilberg and Scalise as producers.

Urquidez is known for his influence on martial arts in mainstream culture as an actor, fight coordinator, and trainer to the stars. He held a total of six world titles in five weight divisions and remained undefeated throughout his more than 20-year kickboxing career.

Amazon and Apple, two Silicon Valley behemoths, are teaming up more closely in the streaming arena.

Later this month, Apple TV+ will be available via Prime Video in the U.S. as an add-on subscription for $9.99 per month, Amazon announced Wednesday. That’s the same price Apple charges for the stand-alone streaming service.

Apple TV+ joins Prime Video’s collection of more than 100 add-on subscription options in the U.S., which include Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, Paramount Global’s Paramount+, Sony’s Crunchyroll and Amazon-owned MGM+.

The deal to bring Apple TV+ into Prime Video is part of Amazon’s strategy to aggregate as many entertainment options as it can for customers — available on one bill, in one app.

“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,” Mike Hopkins, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in announcing the pact.

Throughout the past few years, everything from "Cobra Kai" to "Fuller House" to the long-awaited fourth season of "Veronica Mars" has reunited original cast members for another go-around. So why not "Bones?...

Doug Liman’s sophomore outing of this year, which is also coincidentally an exclusive streaming release like “Road House,” is a heist movie falling squarely in the genre of “heists organized by incompetents or buffoons,” or crime dramas where the protagonists are moderately self-centered but are more inclined to goof around than get any work done.

If one examines the genre of crime movies, arguably, the comedy is mined from these characters either being bad at their jobs or stuck in impossible situations. “The Instigators chooses to follow the former, as do the movies listed below. This is a recommendation list and not a ranking of any of the movies. It is rather a list compiling a couple of movies that share similarities with Doug Liman’s “The Instigators.”

7. 2 Guns (2013)

If you enjoyed The Instigators and its mix of high-stakes heists, unlikely partnerships, and constant twists, then 2 Guns is definitely worth a watch.

After 34 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, 15 in the Dceu, and various television series focusing on superhero shenanigans, it’s understandable why some people say they’ve got “superhero fatigue.” Oversaturation is an unfortunate inevitability whenever Hollywood sees dollar signs stacking up. For years, superhero cinema was the cream of the box office crop. While Deadpool & Wolverine is the exception to superhero movies trending downward (for now) in the public interest, the genre remains ripe for parody, and that’s why HBO‘s The Franchise trailer is ready to poke fun at the process of bringing super-powered punching bags to screens.

Update: Amazon now says Season 2 of “The Lord of The Rings: The Rings of Power” has reached 55 million global viewers since its launch 34 days ago on Aug. 29.

That’s an increase of only 15 million viewers since the total of 40 million that the company reported 11 days after launch. By all accounts, Season 2 viewership has been slower than that of Season 1, which Amazon said hit 25 million viewers in one day when it premiered in 2022. The season recently made its debut on the Nielsen Streaming Top 10 with one billion minutes watched — a drop from the 1.3 billion minutes that Season 1 debuted with, especially when considering that the more recent total combines viewership of both seasons, and that Season 2’s first episodes had a longer runtime than Season 1’s.

Sony is investing more and more in its planned reboot of the Anaconda movie series, which continues to take shape.

Debuting in 1997 – with Jon Voight’s sneer and a massive snake, all under the watchful eye of director Luis Llosa – Anaconda was a solid hit. Still, its subsequent sequels and crossovers never troubled the inside of a cinema.

However, the new reboot – which has been active since early 2020 – is heading for the big screen, and has attracted a notably comic cast.

Jack Black and Paul Rudd were early additions, and joining now is Daniela Melchior in what Deadline reports is in an ‘unknown’ role. We’ve got a bit of info on that, however.

Earlier this year, the news broke that Columbia Pictures is planning to squeeze new life out of the Anaconda franchise, with The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent director Tom Gormican set to helm a reimagining of the 1997 giant snake horror movie.

Paul Rudd and Jack Black have now been confirmed to play the lead roles, and according to Deadline, Daniela Melchior has also joined the cast.

Melchior was most recently seen in the Road House remake, and also made a memorable appearance as Cleo Cazo, aka Ratcatcher 2, in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad.

Gormican will also co-write the script with collaborator Kevin Etten.

The project is said to have been in development at the studio since early 2023, and has gone through numerous rewrites as the "filmmaker and Columbia tried to find the right balance of tones."

Despite being a part of that ever-expanding franchise, however, legendary actor Sam Elliott isn't exactly a fan of "Yellowstone," and he's not afraid to say so.

The actor, known for his roles in films such as "Road House" and "A Star is Born," starred as cowboy Shea Brennan in "1883," the spin-off that helped launch Paramount+. Elliott was quite happy with that show, which takes place decades before the events of the flagship series. Amazon has joined the Motion Picture Association, Hollywood’s leading lobbying group, the MPA announced on Thursday. The tech giant ‚ which includes its streaming service, Prime Video, and Amazon MGM Studios — becomes the newest member since streaming heavyweight Netflix joined in 2019.

“Welcoming Prime Video & Amazon MGM Studios to our ranks will broaden our collective policymaking and content protection efforts on behalf of our most innovative and creative companies,” MPA CEO Charles Rivkin said in a statement.

Amazon Prime Video has 200 million monthly viewers, the company said earlier this year. Beyond Amazon and Netflix, other MPA members include entertainment stalwarts Disney, Paramount, Sony, Universal and Warner Bros. Discovery.

Amazon’s entry into the MPA comes as the company has continued to funnel money into its entertainment efforts; in 2023, the company spent $19 billion on content — up 14% from the year before.

New additions to the cast of the upcoming adaptation of Emily Henry‘s best-seller have been announced.

Netflix announced Wednesday that Sarah Catherine Hook, Jameela Jamil, Lucien Laviscount, and Lukas Gage are set to join Tom Blyth and Emily Bader in the feature adaptation of Henry’s People We Meet on Vacation.

Their roles in the film are to be announced.

News of the casting comes amid Blyth and Bader being announced as the romantic leads. My Lady Jane star Bader will portray Poppy while The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes star Blyth will star as Alex. The story will follow the longtime best friends who took one week of every summer vacation together. However, things changed when they stopped speaking for two years. When Poppy reaches out and convinces Alex to take one more vacation together, she sees it as her time to fix their broken relationship.

Sarah Catherine Hook (The White Lotus), Jameela Jamil (The Good Place), Lucien Laviscount (Emily in Paris), and Lukas Gage (Smile 2) have joined the cast of People We Meet on Vacation, the forthcoming adaptation of Emily Henry’s bestseller from Netflix and 3000 Pictures, on which we were first to report.

Details as to the quartet’s roles are under wraps. Tom Blyth and Emily Bader topline the pic from director Brett Haley (I’ll See You in My Dreams), which marks Henry’s first book adaptation to go into production.

Exclusive: Arturo Castro has been cast in the 20th Century feature Mike & Nick & Nick & Alice, a buddy action comedy set in the criminal underworld from writer and director BenDavid Grabinsk.

He joins Vince Vaughn, James Marsden, Eiza Gonzalez and Jimmy Tatro as part of the ensemble playing Tatro’s friend. Character names and descriptions have yet to be revealed.

Veteran executive Josh McLaughlin is headed to Nine Stories Productions, the company run by actor Jake Gyllenhaal.

McLaughlin most recently worked at his own shingle, Wink Pictures. Before that, he spent ten years at Focus Features, most recently as president of production, with his projects including Spike Lee’s Oscar-winning BlacKkKlansman, filmmaker Kasi Lemmons’s Harriet Tubman feature Harriet, Joe Wright’s Winston Churchill biopic The Darkest Hour and Paul Thomas Anderson’s The Phantom Thread. He also worked with David Leitch on the Charlize Theron action movie Atomic Blonde and Joel Edgerton on Boy Erased, about a young man sent to gay conversion therapy.

He previously worked at Chernin Entertainment and The Mark Gordon Company.

Amazon released some viewership numbers for the second season of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power.

The company says 40 million viewers worldwide have watched at least some of the first three new Rings of Power episodes through the sophomore season’s first 11 days. The company did not make clear, however, how much of the season, or an episode, those 40 million people viewed. (Amazon’s figure is different from the increasingly adopted standard of streaming views, which divides total viewing time by running time.)

Amazon also noted Rings of Power is a Top 5 all-time season for Prime Video (compared to the first 11 days of other shows), and has been No. 1 for the service since its return.

The message follows third-party ratings services claiming the second season’s viewership has dropped sharply from the show’s debut season. According to Samba TV, only about half as many U.S.

McLaughlin steps into the role to help drive the company’s growth and to continue building on their run recent successes, which includes Amazon/MGM Studios’ “Road House” remake, which broke records with over 50 million worldwide viewers on Prime Video its first two weekends and AppleTV+’s “Presumed Innocent,” the platform’s most-viewed drama, which was recently renewed for a second season with Gyllenhaal once again executive producing for Nine Stories.

Season 2 of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” is a hit, at least according to Amazon. The season was viewed by 40 million people in its first 11 days, per internal metrics provided by Prime Video.

The season is currently one of the Top 5 most-watched Prime Video seasons. The streamer also revealed that an “impressive amount” of the audience for “The Rings of Power” has come from outside of the U.S. and that the series reached the No. 1 spot globally on Prime Video in its first 11 days. Season 1 has also seen a boost with “tens of millions” of viewers tuning into the first season. Because Prime Video — like Apple TV+, Hulu, Peacock, Paramount+ and basically every streamer at this point that isn’t Netflix — is notoriously secretive with its viewership stats, it’s difficult to know exactly how well Season 2 is performing compared to other Prime Video originals.
