“Rampage” director Brad Peyton is set to take on another video game adaptation, this time the stealth, third-person shooter franchise “Sniper Elite.”
Peyton is attached to direct “Sniper Elite” as a character-driven, action thriller about an Allied soldier during the height of the Blitz in World War II who engages in a cat-and-mouse chase through London with a Nazi assassin set on killing British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.
“A Garden at the End of the World” writer Gary Graham wrote the script based on the video game franchise from game studio Rebellion. The game has a mantra that “one bullet can change history,” and the film is being positioned as “Sherlock Holmes” meets “The Bourne Identity,” with the characters caught on the ground as bombs are raining down on the British capital during its darkest hour. The film’s hero will have to make a choice between the fate of...

Brad Peyton, who directed Dwayne Johnson movies “San Andreas” and “Rampage,” is attached to helm character-driven action thriller “Sniper Elite,” inspired by the stealth-shooter game franchise, which has sold more than 30 million units.
The movie will see an elite Allied sniper, Karl Fairburne, engage in a cat-and-mouse chase through the streets of London at the height of the Blitz during World War II, as he tries to save British Prime Minister Winston Churchill from a Nazi assassin.
The movie is being produced by Marla Studios’ Jean-Julien Baronnet and Jason Kingsley, CEO of Rebellion, the game’s producer. Baronnet is the former CEO of Luc Besson’s EuropaCorp – whose titles during his time in charge included “Taken” – and the former CEO of Ubisoft Motion Pictures, where he produced Fox’s “Assassin’s Creed,” starring Michael Fassbender.
Rebellion’s games also include “Aliens vs. Predator,” and it owns the rights to the “Judge Dredd” comic-book franchise.

As a mid-range games studio Rebellion has never exactly made major waves in the market. They seem content to limp along with the basically competent ‘Sniper Elite’ series and the occasional oddity such as ‘Strange Brigade’. As a publisher though they’ve stood out thanks to their ’90s era pop punk attitude and continued ownership of Judge Dredd. So the news that they were to expand into a film and television studio was an exciting prospect and made their debut feature one to watch. Sadly though, if School’s Out Forever is any indication, we shouldn’t hold out hope for a stunning follow-up to 2012’s Dredd anytime soon.
No, School’s Out Forever is a hot mess of a film. A tonally imbalanced, badly scripted attempt at the kind of anarchic action fare that makes up Rebellion’s typical output. Set at an elite private school the film focuses on a...

It’s a dark and foggy night. You, an Allied soldier fighting against the Nazi regime, walk slowly down an abandoned, charred street in Venice. A sickly stench permeates the entire area, as does an inescapable sense of dread. With your sniper rifle at the ready, you amble through the deserted town, until you see, through the thick fog in the distance, a horde of…the undead? Without time to think, you peer through your scope and knock a zombie’s skull clear from its body, blood bubbling from the stump of the neck. You continue to fire, but you quickly run dry as the mass approaches. You desperately pull out your sidearm, but the numbers are too vast, and you, soon, join them…
That’s just one way any playthrough of Rebellion’s Zombie Army 4 could go, though I think that paragraph made it sound much more dramatic and interesting than it actually is.

Raising the stakes on the war picture subgenre, Sam Mendes’ 1917 is told in one long camera shot.
The Universal release tells the story of two young British soldiers during WWI who are given an impossible mission: deliver a message deep in enemy territory that will stop their own men, and Blake’s own brother, from walking straight into a deadly trap. Total lives that could be potentially saved? We’re talking about 1,600.
The whole single continuous shot take has been executed before in Hollywood history notably with Alfred Hitchcock’s Rope and Alejandro Inarritu’s Birdman. Pulling off the feat for Mendes is Blade Runner 2049 Oscar-winning Dp Roger Deakins. “It looks incredibly difficult, said Deadline’s Peter White to Deakins. “Good, it was” replied Deakins.
Said Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who co-wrote the script with Mendes, said the fact that 1917 was going to be one long shot “had to be innately...

Hunter Hayes builds his new song “Wild Blue” around a percussive groove, singing over subtle piano about how the 27-year-old songwriter is undergoing a personal sea change. “Funny how you don’t know you can fly until you finally catch the wind,” he sings. “You think you know the part you play until somebody goes and rewrites the script.”
And then it all explodes, with Hayes delivering a soaring, cathartic guitar solo before the song returns to its subdued piano origin. The title track off Hayes’ just announced new album,...

Its been a hot minute since Fortnite developer Epic Games decided to introduce a brand new weapon for Battle Island regulars to get their hands on, but that dry spell ends today.
Among other new content that we’ll get into shortly, patch v8.11 is now live and marks the arrival of the so-called Flint-Knock Pistol. As per the official patch notes, this new hand cannon is available in both Common and Uncommon rarities and can only be found as Floor Loot. Of course, the introduction of a simple pistol might seem like a rather unremarkable event to get excited over, but this bite-sized blunderbuss boasts some unique properties.
First and foremost, users will need to be aware of the gun’s unwieldy nature. Firing the Flint-Knock from a standing position will result in some hefty recoil for the user, a sizable drawback that can be negated via the simple...

The Ad Council and Nhtsa’s Buzzed Driving is Drunk Driving campaign is teaming up with recording artist Hunter Hayes to spread the word that people should be aware of their buzzed “warning signs” to avoid drinking and driving.
Every individual has their own personal signs — like taking too many selfies or texting an ex — that indicate that they are impaired and shouldn’t drive.
New PSAs feature Hayes in a relaxed interview setting as he reflects on his personal buzzed warning signs, reiterates the importance of finding a safe way home after drinking, and discusses the meaning behind his songs “One Shot” and “Heartbreak.”
“Just like in my song ‘One Shot,’ once you start drinking you don’t always make the best decisions,” said Hayes. “That’s why I know my buzzed warning signs. When I see one of these signs, I call a car or a friend instead of getting behind the wheel.

With one week until the “Dancing with the Stars” semifinals, the remaining eight couples performed one unlearned dance style and one team routine for Country Night before facing the first double elimination of the season. With the competition so tight, this season has proved that the judges’ scores can only take you so far.
Evanna Lynch was the belle of the ballroom, earning a combined 59 out of 60 points for her two dances, making her the top scorer of the night. Alexis Ren, Juan Pablo Di Pace, and Milo Manheim also performed perfect or near-perfect routines, cementing themselves as the best dancers left in the competition along with Evanna.
Meanwhile, the bottom scores of the season, Bobby Bones and Joe Amabile, continued to prove the naysayers wrong as they once again escaped elimination. Instead, it was lights out for John Schneider and DeMarcus Ware as they became the first male celebs to get the boot.

Here are the dances — and country stars — ‘Dancing with the Stars’ has wrangled up for Country Night
Grab your cowboy boots because it’s Country Night on “Dancing with the Stars” next week. And in another beautiful case of corporate synergy, some country music stars — many of whom just so happened to be nominated at the upcoming Country Music Awards, which will air on ABC — will perform live while the final eight hit the dance floor.
We will also get team dances this week. As previously announced, the two lowest scorers — Joe “Grocery Store Joe” Amabile and Bobby Bones — are the team captains this time as opposed to the two highest.
ABC once again made no mention of an elimination, but we’ve already put on our hats and deduced that this week has to be a double elimination.

The NFL’s new “Sunday Publisher Story” will deliver news and highlights of games to Snapchat users during the season, with updates at least once per hour during the NFL’s Sunday games. The first thing you note when reading the sleeve notes for 100 Years of Horror (Mill Creek Entertainment) is the three-disc set’s staggering running time: ten hours and fifty-five minutes. It’s a somewhat daunting task to review such a monumentally staged effort as this, one at least partially conceived as a labor-of-love. The series makes a noble effort to trace the history and the development of the horror film from the silent era through the slasher films of the 1980s and a bit beyond, not always neatly or logically compartmentalizing sub-genres as “Dinosaurs,” “Aliens” “Gore,” “Mutants,” Scream Queens” etc. along the way. It’s a bit difficult to precisely date when host and horror film icon Christopher Lee’s commentaries and introductory segments were filmed. The set itself carries a 1996 copyright, but Lee makes an off-hand mention of the “new” Dracula film starring Gary Oldman… which...
