Great Show, Great Episode
dragonslayrskr1 March 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was hilarious! The whole thing was just awesome! The interesting story about them in a simulator and how they keep getting stuck in even more simulators was really interesting to watch. Also the whole "Hungry For Apples?" product idea with Morty's dad was the funniest thing EVER! I also thought the Aliens personalities really worked well with the plot, and how they thought they were really smart, but weren't made Rick look way more awesome then before. I definitely enjoyed this episode! There were only a few things that were a little overboard, but it is a adult show, so what can you do? Other then that it was just the best! Again, great episode, and well done, hands down my favorite episode so far.

So what if the best episode was a simulation operating at minimum capacity?

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was an excellent roller-coaster, seeing Rick in a beaten situation, then getting the upper hand... only to get down again... to emergent triumphant... then fail again... but manage to recuperate... only to be defeated by Prince Nebulon... but having the final laugh anyway.

Even though Morty is also a part of the adventure (or is he?), it is Jerry, who steals the show, as the complete opposite of Rick. Completely unaware of his surroundings, he embraces the simulation, and lives the best day of his life. It gives room to some interesting philosophical questions, like how your mind tries to bend reality to its own needs, and how true "cogito ergo sum" is. But all is ending up in laughter, as you hear Rick's closing lines, and the ending song. Odds are you'll search for Baker street to listen it one more time!

Almost like the Twilight Zone

The Social Commentary parodys the tropes of M. Night Shyamalan's work. Its mostly an Exercise in writing Parody, as well delivering unexpected turns that build on the visual storytelling, Much like he was once known for. It's willingly condescending, but clever when delivering pondering questions to Shyamalan's divisive work.

I love these fake identical world plot lines.

Warning: Spoilers
I've seen this type of stuff before, but I always love fake identical world plot lines no matter what show they are in, because they are about the main characters trying to figure out what is off about the world they live in and how to combat whoever trapped them in the fake identical world. It was funny when good shows like Ben 10 did in in the episode Perfect Day. It was even funny when bad shows like Problem Solvers did it in the episode Fauxboro. If you know any other films or episodes that do this cool F.I.W. plot, please let me know what they are.

The sigerian purple-headed aliens are all evil bananas who are sending Jerry (and Rick when he tries to escape twice) to the desert, and Rick is the good cactus who stole their jetpack and left them stranded in the desert when he gives them a (probably) fake recipe for concentrated dark matter to blow them up. What is also very interesting is how some parts of the simulation are more convincing than others. The deeper the simulation goes, the less obvious it is that it's a simulation. For example, the simulation Morty, Mr. Goldenfold and Jessica are a lot more convincing than the simulation Beth, mailman, and the hungry for apples boss.

Why would a pop tart want to live inside a toaster?

This is the first episode where they've gotten everything dialed in. All the characters are in character as they will be through the series. Lots of good stuff in this one.

The Unbreakable Jerry Smith
southdavid14 February 2020
The show is hitting its stride now, with the clever science fiction story expertly tying together A and B stories into one satisfactory conclusion.

Rick (Justin Roiland) believes that something is wrong. He and Morty (Justin Roiland) have been pulled into an elaborate computer simulation by an alien species who are trying to learn Rick's secret formula for concentrated Dark Matter, that can be used as rocket fuel. Meanwhile, the aliens have inadvertently also captured Jerry (Chris Parnell) who not only hasn't spotted the simulations flaws, but is having the single best day of his life.

Another great guest start sits at the heart of this episode, David Cross plays Prince Nebulon, leader of the aliens, with his trademark undeserved confidence and passive aggressiveness, he's convinced that this is the time he's finally outwitted the great Rick Sanchez. It's the first of the occasional Rick and Jerry series, that he show chooses to do from time to time. They're a strong double act, mostly because at heart I think Rick cares about his grandson, whereas he merely tolerates Jerry so as to not overly upset the rest of his family and is usually much blunter with him - although they often bond too (though it doesn't last) . There's lots of good humour mined from the simulation and its failings and glitches as well as the lengths Rick will go to prove to Morty that it is a simulation.

Visually, this one's OK. Rick is still drinking, but not belching as much as he was in either the pilot, or last week's episode, at least not until he's properly drunk in the post credits scene.

It's another great episode.

I must say that I have enjoyed this animation so far. They choose the best subjects and they execute it in the best way.
