Industry veterans, Dov Kornits and Lou Balletti have announced the launch of a new theatrical distributor operating in Australia. The company pitches itself as a one-stop shop straddling distribution and media promotion, and will begin operations with a Friday 13 December release of horror title “Wrinkles the Clown.”
Kornits is publisher of Australian film magazine and website FilmInk. He has also been head of theatrical for specialty distributor Umbrella Entertainment, and has consulted with distributors Label, Bonsai, Universal and Athabasca on local releases.
The company’s co-director Lou Balletti had her earlier career in exhibition, before becoming head of theatrical sales for distributor Hopscotch Films. In recent years she headed digital sales across Australia and New Zealand for Entertainment One, with responsibility for launching titles including “Peppa Pig,” “Vice,” “Green Book” and “The Walking Dead.”

The Burning Kiss is an exciting new Australian noir that stylistically draws inspiration from Pop Art, the French New Wave and Southern Gothic. Our regular readers will remember seeing its teaser, poster and stills here exclusively over the past couple of years. This independent film went into production back in 2012 but due to the scope of the project, its completion has been delayed by various set-backs. “Independent filmmaking can be an incredibly cumbersome process as normal film production choices such as reshoots, pickup shots and visual effects can literally add a year or so onto the post-production schedule,” says director Robbie Studsor. The filmmakers are now raising funds to help complete the film’s last remaining visual effects. “As a result of the ambitious...

A new teaser for upcoming Australian feature film The Burning Kiss has been released and it showcases the film's surreal hybrid style and offbeat narration about finding an unusual sea creature that has been washed ashore. "The film has a fun midnight movie sensibility and in terms of the Southern gothic influence, it's definitely a bit more lined up with lowbrow pop stuff like Whatever Happened to Baby Jane? and Faster Pussycat, Kill, Kill! than Tennessee Williams. At the same time, there's elements in the film that are quite experimental and cerebral so I'm excited to see how the film will go over with audiences," says director Robbie Studsor. The Burning Kiss marks the debut of newly established Australian production company Caltiki Pictures, which has Studsor...

The team behind new Australian feature The Burning Kiss has some exclusive images and a sample of the score to share with Twitch's readers. "Mario Bava's The Whip And The Body and avant-garde filmmakers like Stan Brakhage and Danny Perez were influential over these tarot card inspired chapter breaks that feature in the film. They've got a mystical pop art, neon Vegas vibe that I really love," explains director Robbie Studsor about the style of the visuals. The film's music score was crafted by talented Australian composer and 2014 Apra Screen Music Award nominee Christopher de Groot using a unique orchestration of guitar, piano, vibraphone, Mellotron, harps, 8-piece flute choir, vocals, congas and a home-made gamelan. "It's a tropical noir nightmare!" he explains about the music in...

The Burning Kiss, a new Australian feature film, is nearing completion. The film has drawn inspirations from southern gothic psychodrama, poolside chic, pop art and the French New Wave. A set of VFX stills has been made available exclusively to TwitchFilm. Director Robbie Studsor, a firm believer that VFX should serve a film and not the other way around, talks about his film and the use of VFX:"Firstly, the film is obviously a little more Ken Russell than Ken Loach, so I wanted to push the VFX in a way that's quite lurid and fun. This requires talent, bravery and insanity on the part of our head VFX artist and he has totally over delivered! I couldn't be happier. It's a cliché but it's true, the...

Following the premiere of the exclusive teaser for new Australian feature film The Burning Kiss, Twitch has an exclusive new poster for the film to show you. Director Robbie Studsor appreciates the importance of film poster artwork, and in particular how it can capture the essence of a movie. "Let's face it; almost all movie fans are also 'movie poster fans' and it's certainly something we consider extremely important. I think everyone agrees that great film artwork goes beyond promotion and actually becomes an artistic extension of the film; in some instances it's even inseparable! For me, this poster is no exception and I love how the designer has incorporated some classic style from the golden era of 60s cinema artwork," said Studsor. The Burning Kiss is...
