Warning: Spoilers
Alongside Switched at Birth, ABC Family has The Fosters which tries to push past your usual teen soap-drama and actual bring story lines which haven't been recycled for decades. For The Fosters though, they take on more controversial topics than Switched at Birth, in my opinion. But, with such topics like immigration; a lesbian couple raising a diverse family; a child dealing with past sexual abuse; another one possibly being gay, though this is an assumption; and then the element of the Plan B pill, and dealing with a drug addict birth mom, needless to say the show has a lot on its plate. Of which the first half of the season tried to touch on everything, leading to things seeming a little shallow, but with time, and patience, I do expect they will flesh everything out. So, with that said, let's talk episode 11 of season 1 "The Honeymoon."

Topic 1: The Romance

Post marriage bliss ends quite quickly for Lena and Stef. They discover their newest, would-be, daughter has ran off and hasn't left much of a trail to follow. But, for part of her journey, it seems Callie is in good company with Wyatt. Admittedly, he is still a bit uneasy since they broke up, but lingering feelings seem to push him to do what he can, though not without questions. Of which, is why Callie is with him? The answer to this question is a half-truth about how things weren't working out when, in reality, between the kiss with Brandon and the guilt trip from Jude, she figured she was more a liability to Jude, and the family as a whole maybe, than an asset.

But, unfortunately Callie being gone isn't the only sad bit of news. The quite smitten Jesus and Lexi finally are forced to come to terms with her leaving. Lexi's dad has been found out and with him getting fired, that was the last straw and now they are off to Honduras. This leads to Lexi saying she'll be back, on a student visa for college, and Jesus proclaiming his love and saying he will wait for her, something Lexi doesn't realistically expect. Still though, it made for a cute moment.

Topic 2: The Heartbreak

During Callie's time with Wyatt, it is made clear that he is only a temporary solution for he can't just bring her to his grandparents' home in Indiana expecting them to greet her with open arms. Also, never mind by her leaving California, and Stef doing her duty in telling Callie's probation officer, that she violated probation. So, she tries to be a runaway who takes care of herself. Thing is, she has no phone, no home, and no ID, making it so even getting a job isn't a possibility. But then there is the idea of her dad, which Wyatt brought up.

So, during a moment in which we are led to believe prostitution and runaways will be a new part of The Fosters many covered themes, she decides to call her dad and finds out he has been out of jail for a year, and hasn't contacted her, nor Jude, what so ever. This leads to Callie getting herself arrested and who knows what may happen from here.

Topic 3: A New Kind of Family

With the wedding now over, Sharon, Stef's mom, decides to let her opinion known about her soon to be new grandchildren, of which, she isn't for them. As a person seeing outside in, she has the opinion many have when it comes to foster children, especially the older ones. She worries about Jude and Callie's past and despite already having two foster grandchildren, of which she loves, I guess being that Callie and Jude aren't toddlers is the issue.

Let it be noted though, upon getting to know Jude this thought process gets partly squashed and Sharon seems in love with the boy, especially since he reminds her of a younger Stef. But, an issue remains with Callie. Neither Stef nor Lena can find her and they fight a little over what steps to take to get her back, albeit the fight isn't huge, but one of many tussles we should expect to see.

What is interesting though is it isn't just Sharon Jude bonds with, but also Brandon to a point. This episode seemingly takes place the day after the wedding and Brandon, naturally, is afraid of Jude saying something, not realizing how snitching would adversely affect Jude as well. During the moments though, after Callie running away is revealed, we see them sort of form a brotherly bond and Brandon admits guilt and Jude does in his own way. And we even hear from Marianna who said she was starting to think of Callie as a sis, which considering all they have been through is so sweet.

Overall

From this episode, most of the draw for me is what is going to happen with Callie and if we may see Lexi anytime soon? Outside of that, to be honest I'm still not fond of Brandon and Callie, as opposed to her and Wyatt, but seemingly it is bound to happen. And while Lexi is away, it does make you wonder if Jesus will keep his promise, much less who is going to take her place in Marianna's life? Of course, these are amongst the many questions the episode leaves us with, but we got a handful of episodes to flesh out the answers so no worries.
