The Locked Room

When Patience first enters the dead writer's room she is wearing blue gloves, shortly after that her DI boss (Laura Fraser) comes into the room and asks her to wear blue gloves! The character development is spot on and the stories keep you interested until the denouement. The writing is sharp and and to the point. It's not quite a police procedural but comes close in parts. I love the warm look, and the production design it's a welcome change to most common cop dramas. It's also a good tourist advert for York. Overall very good viewing and does not appear to be too drawn out. I hope they commission a new series as I think this will become a popular series for Channel 4.

Another good episode with many similarities to the original show but, unlike Patience, Astrid was not seen to be an animal lover. There were no cats, mice or reptiles in the French show which gives Patience some characteristics of her own.

The characters are developing well but things do seem a bit rushed (the original French series varied in length but none have been as short as the length of these episodes).

The blatant product placement for Amazon Prime was most off putting. Other items are shown without mentioning the name of the product or service so this scene seemed out of place.

Apart from that, it was a good watch.

Patience is on hand once again to assist DI Metcalf on the case of Harry Franklin, an author who was poisoned with cyanide, and was found inside a locked room.

This might be the most interesting storyline yet, I absolutely loved it, initially I was expecting something along the lines of Jonathan Creek, the whole locked door mystery, and there was a similarity, but more depth.

Great episode, nothing more I can say, it's an intriguing puzzle, I like the two different approaches, the procedural one from The Police, and the logical one from Patience.

We get to learn a little more about Patience, and perhaps realise now where her thirst for solving puzzles came for.

The idea of an ice cube being used in such a way, it made me want to empty out the ice tray, and start afresh.

Clever, intelligent drama, beautifully acted, this series is truly proving to be a cut above.
