Six Years in the Making
therunner422 January 2014
Warning: Spoilers
This episode is the possibly one of the most pivotal in the show's six year history and is quite literally essential viewing. When the show began, Jackson Tellar was very close with his stepfather and club president Clay Morrow. How things have changed! I guess Clays killing of Jackson's real father and attempted murder of Jackson's wife Tara really did make family matters difficult. Tonight it all comes to an end when Jackson frees Clay from prison only to kill him. This has the added bonus of bringing Jackson a little closer with his estranged wife who steps in to help the wounded after the botched prison transport interruption. It is an action-packed episode and definitely not to be missed. In true SAMCRO fashion, there is ;violence, emotion and a whole lot of double crossing. You won't be disappointed except maybe if you're a fan of Ron Perlman (but we all know every character on this show has a limited shelf life).

Absolutely incredible and shocking

Warning: Spoilers
This episode was a tense and shocking ride through Jax's plan to get the motorcycle club out of the gun business. The pressure between SAMCRO and Gaalan had been building all season, and it all came to a violent end when Jax's real plans made themselves known.

I must admit that I did not at all expect Sons of Anarchy to take its courage in both hands and finally face what we have been waiting for for quite some time now. Especially since Clay, since he is in prison, is not necessarily of much use but I must admit that there are still quite a few very good ideas here and there. Especially from the point of view of how Clay sees his last moments coming. I've already thought about the fact that Clay has to die, especially because it ultimately happens at an almost unexpected time. I didn't expect Sons of Anarchy to dare to kill Clay at all. Especially because Ron Perlman was for a long time one of the emblematic figures of the series. Seeing him die at the hands of Jax was even more impressive but that's just the twist in something else. In any case, Sons of Anarchy delivers a breathtaking scene, gripping the guts thanks to a sober and rapid staging, and a leaden silence. The death knell being sounded by the gunshot.

The pathos that the show tries to manage during Clay's final moments was brilliant. Especially because Sons of Anarchy is not just a violent series with action scenes on motorcycles, it is also a drama. It's a story of friendship, love and encounters. This season is also the most emblematic from this point of view with the story of Tara which allowed the series to make us discover another aspect of her personality.

Aon Rud Persanta (#6.11)

Well, it really didn't go the way I was hoping, but to be fair it is something I that was to be expected. Yes, I really wanted to see Clay come out, get strength and a big revenge by killing as many as possible. Instead he got killed in this episode. But then Clay winning would not make sense and sure make more people upset. I can still hope that it will end in people who I see responsible for his death being killed. Plenty of time left. I just wish this amazing character would go out of the show in a much more dramatic and crazy way. He just had the moment with Gemma. And she had the nerve to saying that he isn't worth it. But maybe his death will bring more craziness with the consequences I will be happy about. I will miss Ron Perlman but he had great 6 seasons with a memorable character.

Big Plot Hole?
calebcalebwhitney2 June 2022
Something that's been bugging me since the beginning: In real life the IRA was always raising money to BUY guns. In the show, the Irish Kings/Galen/Real IRA guys are always going on about needing to sells guns because they need the gun income to finance "the cause."

Character motivation is crucial for suspending disbelief. In SOA the acting is top notch and we "believe the characters." But when the character motivation doesn't make sense, it leave us with a nagging feeling that we've missed something. Irish separatists selling guns to raise money for the cause doesn't ring true. What are they planning to do with all this money they raise selling guns in California? Are they looking to buy television ads to promote the Cause or perhaps bribe politicians?

Another thing: Guns are not like eggs, where if you break one egg and eat it, you have to buy another egg if you want to eat eggs. You can't re-use that egg. If you want to eat eggs all the time you need a regular supply of eggs. No so with guns. Sure, you'll find new customers here and there, and there are some people that might want to buy a few guns from you, but street gangs are not paying thousands of dollars on guns just to throw them away. Guns are made of metal, and they last a long time. Are we supposed to think the niners and the Mayans are using up their guns so fast that they are constantly in need of an ongoing supply? Like, every month every Cali gangster needs to purchase a fresh supply of Glocks?

Writers dropped the ball big time

Warning: Spoilers
Where is the closure? Where are the big speeches and final confrontations? Both Galen and Clay were killed in this episode and very little dialog was exchanged between them and their killers. Galen caused so much pain and suffering to Samcro and his death was swift and without a word of acknowledgement. Instead of Jax telling him off expressing his anger we get a simple gun shot to the head. You'd think with such crucial characters there might be some kind of reasonable send off? Sure this was a surprise hit so I guess we can forgive the lack of closure.

Then we have the situation with Clay however. He knows the death is coming and there is hardly any conversation whatsoever. No final "I love you son.'' Or "I know you must think I'm a monster but im my own way I thought I was doing what was right for the club and along the way I lost myself. I know you feel you have to do this and I understand entirely''. Instead we got almost nothing. No last words from Clay. No last words from Jax. Where is the character development? You just toss away the most ironic character of the show like a used rag? A miserable send off. Death has a certain finality. It is the most opportune moment for the characters to express their true thoughts. Jax with his everlasting hatred and Clay with his remorse.

Kurt Sutter you really need to allow your characters to use their mouths. The best moments of this show are where the characters actually open up and express their inner most thoughts and feelings. I don't know what's wrong with you.
