New ‘Celebrity Family Feud’ Exec Producer Myeshia Mizuno Makes History as First Black Woman to Run a Primetime Game Show (Exclusive)
Image
As a child of the 1970s, Myeshia Mizuno still remembers watching the Richard Dawson incarnation of “Family Feud” at home. Now, she’s the new showrunner on the Steve Harvey-hosted daytime version in syndication and the primetime “Celebrity Family Feud” on ABC — which returns July 9 for its 10th anniversary and landmark 100th episode.

And in taking on those roles — which she began earlier this year, Mizuno is also making history. After much research by the folks at series producer Fremantle, they can confirm that Mizuno is indeed the first-ever Black woman to serve as a network game show showrunner.

“I grew up watching game shows, everyone watched game shows,” Mizuno says. “They have traditionally been run by white males. So, to be the first Black woman to run a primetime network game show is huge. And not just any game show, but an iconic franchise at that! I’m very appreciative of it.

Watch My Show: Paternity Court's Lauren Lake Answers Our Showrunner Survey
Paternity tests have become a major part of daytime talk shows like Maury — which is why it was probably inevitable that a show would come along that merged the popular courtroom genre with babies, mamas and the men who may or may not be the father. The syndicated series Paternity Court (check local listings) follows family lawyer Lauren Lake as she administers DNA tests and rules on paternity cases. Lake, whose show was just renewed for Season 2, filled out our TV Guide Magazine "Watch My Show" survey to explain why we should adopt a Paternity Court habit.

'Paternity Court' host Lauren Lake talks ratings success, how the show is different from 'Maury'
When you hear the title "Paternity Court," it's easy to think of those chair-throwing moments on "Maury" and cringe -- something host Lauren Lake knows all too well.

Howver, the nationally syndicated program, which airs on 140 stations nationwide and is currently #1 in the ratings in the freshman category, beating "Bethenny," "The Queen Latifah Show" and "The Arsenio Hall Show," deviates from the "Maury" model by helping litigants resolve legal issues involving paternity in a manner that respects them, rather than turning them into a spectacle -- a course of action that Lake, an attorney and legal advisor who's regularly contributed to shows like "The View," "Good Morning America" and "Today," tells Zap2it.com was necessary in her taking the job.

It was not only a conscious decision, it was a condition. I would've not been a part of a project that didn't represent families and children well. My entire...
