- Pre-crash Kyle goes with his frat bothers as they get drunken tattoos. Kyle doesn't, saying his mom would kill him if he did. He has plans to be an engineer to keep thinks like the Katrina levees from breaking ever happening again. One of his brothers got Chinese characters meaning "beginning and end" on his ankle, another got a shamrock on his elbow.
Cut to present day, re-animated Kyle, who screams as he sees those tattoos on his stitched-together body. Zoe comes to check on him where she has him chained up in the greenhouse. She's carrying a gun behind her back.
Madison eats herself through Cordelia's stash of herbs until something finally makes her look less dead. But she can't feel anything. She holds a lighter to her hand to her flesh and lets it singe, feeling nothing. She eats everything in the fridge because she can, feeling nothing. "I need to do something, I'm going bat----," she says.
Zoe talks to Kyle, trying to explain why she has to shoot him, including that he killed his mother. He gets the gun away from her and sticks it in his own mouth, but she grabs it away as he fires. "I don't want you to die," she says, hugging him.
Late at night, Queenie goes on a fridge raid but finds nothing. Madame LaLaurie is disappointed, she was feeling a bit pekish as well. They go for drive through. They inhale cheeseburgers, and LaLaurie thinks it's the best food she's ever tasted. "I'm beginning to understand why you're so enormous," she says, innocently, to Queenie. She isn't trying to be rude, she's baffled by this century. "You think I'm any less perplexed? I dragged my ass all the way here from Detroit to be with my 'sister witches' and instead, I'm sitting in a fast food parking lot at 3 in the morning with an immortal racist. How'd that happen?" Queenie says. LaLaurie doesn't think they'll ever see her as a sister, because she's black.
Hank calls Cordelia in the middle of the night, asking to come home. She tells him to go to bed. He's drinking alone, surrounded by an arsenal.
Cordelia gets up from bed, in the middle of the night, calling for LaLaurie. Madison hides, but when Cordelia is about to fall down the stairs, she stops her. Cordelia grabs her and, with her new gift of second sight, sees her own mother slitting Madison's throat.
The Axeman brings Fiona home, a small cluttered apartment. He puts on jazz and quotes her Faulkner. She ignores the cockroach in the bathroom, but is unsettled by the clump of her hair that comes out. She doesn't notice the dead man in the bathtub. (An older version of the young piano player whose photo is on the wall.)
He starts to kiss her, but she bails when her hair falls out. "I'm a wretched human being, a miserable g--damned bitch, I always have been," she says. She's halfway out the door, when he gives her a line about the transformative power of love, or at least sex. He plays her body like the keys of his saxophone, sweet talking her. She gives in. The lights all blow out, one by one.
Back at the Academy, Zoe chains Kyle up and tries to teach him how to communicate, showing him flashcards with single words on them. He gets frustrated trying to feed himself and flings his food across the room. Madison saunters in, telling Zoe that Cordelia wants to talk to her.
Madison asks him about death. She just had cold and darkness, but somehow it feels more empty here. She's been wondering if it was worth coming back. He slowly inches in to hug her.
Queenie goes to see Marie Laveau, who tells her the white witches will never welcome her. She invites Queenie to come live with her, if Queenie brings her LaLaurie. "You mix your witch with our voodoo, and even a Supreme won't be able to touch you," Laveau says.
Queenie worries what Marie would do to LaLaurie.
Cordelia tells Zoe that the fact she was unable to release the Axeman means Zoe has power, which is bound to draw the attention of their biggest enemy: Fiona. She warns Zoe that Fiona will try to kill her if she thinks she's the next Supreme, like she did to Madison to try to absorb her power. "So what do we do?" Zoe asks. "It's simple, we're going to kill my mother. Kill her once, kill her good. Kill her dead," Cordelia says.
When Zoe goes back to her room, she finds Kyle and Madison having sex.
In the morning with the Axeman, Fiona gets dressed to leave. She casually mentions that the dead body in his bathtub is going to start smelling soon. He references how she understands such things, even though she always had someone clean up after her. He knows her from years of observing her, since she was eight years old.
Flash back to the Academy, and older witch, Helen, taunting eight-year-old Fiona at the breakfast table to make her dump milk on herself. Instead, Fiona flings it at Helen, who then knocks her out of her chair. When Helen walks away, a bookcase falls on her.
Back with the Axeman, "That was you?" Fiona asks. "That bully had it coming," he says.
At first he thought of her as the daughter he never had, but he watched her grow into "the most fearsome thing that ever lived." He says he fell in love with her, not like a father, but like a man. "I don't believe in ghosts," she says. He says he just wants to comfort her, she's lived through so much. She gets angry, asking if it was a "mercy lay" and telling him to haunt someone else.
Spaulding wakes up tied to his bed. Zoe asks him how he feels, and he replies. His tongue is back in his mouth.
Flash back to Zoe finding it wet and slimy in a box in the back of the closet, enchanted. Myrtle kept it, but she wasn't witch enough to restore it. But Zoe is.
Zoe interrogates him, knowing he can't lie. She asks who killed Madison. He fights it, but finally says Fiona.
His family has served the coven for 10 generations. "Not anymore, you're done talking," Zoe says as she takes out a knife and stabs him in the chest.
Late at night, Queenie asks Delphine about the worst thing she ever did.
Flash back to Delphine and her husband being waited upon by Sally, a young slave. Delphine knows Sally recently gave birth. We see Monsieur LaLaurie grabbing her butt. Later at night, Delphine applies her blood-based beauty treatment and tells Sally it came from a young baby.
She admits to Queenie that she killed the baby. Sally killed herself the next morning.
She tells Queenie she's learning about the different time and world. "I'm grateful to have someone, a true friend to guide me," Delphine says.
Back home, Fiona gets angry as her hair continuing to fall out and takes out clippers. But she stops.
Zoe washes Spaulding's blood off in the shower. Madison asks Zoe if she minds she slept with Kyle. Madison thinks Zoe won't be able to hurt him because he's already dead, but she's not ready to give him up herself -- being with him is the first time since coming back that she felt anything.
Madison leads Zoe to the bedroom, where Kyle is waiting. Zoe joins the two of them in bed.
The Axeman finishes his set at a club and finds Fiona waiting for him.
Queenie takes Delphine to Marie Laveau's, ostensibly to get her hair done. Delphine is stunned by Queenie's betrayal. She locks Delphine in a cage and hands Queenie a knife to make the first cuts.
Later, Marie applies her special blood-based beauty treatment.
