Warning: Spoilers
This episode introduced the possibility of ESP which sounds awesome for something to be introduced into the MCU. Instead of ESP, the person of interest actually has a cybernetic implant. While this isn't as cool as telepathy, cybernetic enhancement is still a really cool jar to open. I'm pretty sure that Ian Quinn, who was introduced in the previous episode, had a part to play by using his wealth to create this technology.

This is also a good episode for the insight into Coulson. As he is in the area of training Skye, although Ward is doing that physically he certainly has a hand in it, it is insightful to see how much agents that Coulson train actually mean to him, as actual people he feels responsible for, not just collateral.

The infiltration with Ward and Skye into the Belarus lab was fun to watch. Having Ward try, and fail, to bromance a security guard was awkwardly hilarious. Those diagrams that he found look like some sort of mappings or a blueprint.

A couple complaints I have about this episode start with May. She first started out as an dark, mysterious, quiet agent but she hasn't really changed since then. I'm not expecting a complete change in her but she has barely done so. The only thing that is a bit different is her closeness with Coulson. Another thing is the agent under fire, Amador. She had practically no personality or mood the throughout the entire episode. You could say that she was like that when she was under control. But even after that, there was hardly any change in her performance.

+ Technological advances + Insight into Coulson + Ward/Skye infiltration - Lighten up May - Show some emotion Amador - Would've been cool if someone did have ESP

Final Score: 7.3/10

THIS IS WHERE IT STARTS

I am going through an AOS rewatch and I give this episode 8 stars, because this is where it starts getting interesting. This is where the series starts to build on itself.

RE-watch thoughts

This episode was the first episode to sell me on this show and the sort of stories it can tell, it's a case of the week but a really good one, with heavy stakes, unique one off characters and it built on the team dynamics in really beautiful ways, also with hindsight, the seeds they plant in this episode come into play later in spectacular ways...plus it's just a fun episode that made me laugh quite few times.

B'Elanna Torres graduates form Voyager to S H I E L D.
XweAponX17 October 2013
Warning: Spoilers
And she was excellent, this is the best-directed episode of Agents of SHIELD yet. Roxann Dawson, aka "B'Elanna Torres" in Star Trek Voyager, started out as a Half-Klingon with lousy Forehead Makeup but she is now a halfway decent Director.

This is the way this show should go, from an army of Red-faced "Anonymous" to a Chick who really does have X-Ray Spex.

Each time something is revealed in this episode, another new conundrum flops out, and it keeps happening to the very last instant here.

A very subdued looking Pascale Armand is "Akela Amador" - A former Shield Op and progeny of "AC" (Skye's new name for Agent Coulson), one who had vanished.

May and Ward want to get all religious and kill her off, but Coulson is offering Second Chances today. So when they track Akela down, they find a new Question: If she is bad, why is she helping a Russian Woman get rid of a Tumour? And why not just kill off Skye and the Fitz-Twins instead of just upending their Van?

And while this Upending is happening, they discover a Video Signal that apparently is coming right toward them, showing the inside of the Van.

And it was in Akela's Eye. So the conundrum is, why can they tap in to Akela's Eye, and why does Alela have an X Ray machine built in?

May goes off grid and finds Akela, and more pieces fall into place, it is not what Akela is doing, but that she is being forced to do it.

But where does the string start? The Fitz-Twins rig up a fake-out for whoever is watching Akela, which Ward has to wear, and he carefully does not reveal his own Body Parts for whoever is watching, else they would have seen it is no longer a Black Woman but a White Man.

And to make it all the more interesting, there is a BOMB in Akela's Eye that her Handler can explode and make Brain-Flavoured Peanut Butter and Jelly Sandwiches!

It is up to the Fitz-Twins to disconnect it, while Ward fakes the Handler out and gives Coulson an Opporknockity to find the FleaBagazoid who is doing this Cack.

But Not All is As It Seems- As Usual, Par for the Course, Ad Infinitum, and maybe Yawn, but not Yawn, cos this was all directed with Trek Precision by Roxann. So, great Job Roxann, Please direct MORE Eps of this! And she manages to get in one more "Coulson Clue": He is not acting the same way he used to act, Akela wonders what had been done to him, then changes the subject.

The X-Ray Spex Gag turns into something Skye can have some fun with, if Fitz don't chicken out all the time.

Again few mistakes

Warning: Spoilers
I already wrote a review on the entire series, but i wanted to write one about this episode as well. It really bugged me when I was watching it. When Ward was wearing the special glasses and fighting the guard, the one monitoring the action should have seen that ward was a white man, not a black woman. Therefore the person would've already seen him and triggered the kill-switch. But lets talk about that kill-switch. Because if they rerouted the feed to the glasses ward was wearing, then why wouldn't the signal for the kill- switch go there as well, so why would Akela Amador be in any danger? That's the real point that bugs me. It could be that there is a second feed, which they can't hack or reroute, but it isn't mentioned.
