Nostalgia, Goosebumps..."Football, Bloody hell"
shihabulalam-2095117 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
With United not giving much to simile and celebrate these days, this blast from the past was absolutely brilliant. Pure masterclass. As a lifelong United fan, loved watching this. Probably once of the best mini docu-series highlighting the ups and downs of the 98-99 Treble Winning Season, all leading up to that historic night at Barcelona where the world witnessed the greatest comeback in the history of this beautiful game. Today's players and managers can learn a lot from this. For example how to be an amazing captain and leader like Roy Keane, or how managers should motivate and inspire players in the face of adversity and not blatantly blame players in interviews.

Pure nostalgia if you support Manchester United
jamesraymondwallace17 May 2024
I was just 16 years old when United did the impossible working as a kitchen porter and training as a chef I was working during the champions league final thinking the game was dead I remember hearing everyone going crazy in the bar so ran out to see that we had scored an equaliser then running back to the kitchen to do my Job thinking yes extra time before hearing everyone going crazy again so run back out to see that we had gone 2 one up then running back to the kitchen with the biggest smile on my face ever not only was this my first time seeing United win the champions league it was the first time seeing a team go on to win a treble a history winning season and thinking the one player who deserved it the most was Beckham because if anyone was around during time and seen the amount of abuse that lad got for getting sent off for England against Argentina was insane that would never be aloud now shows how mentally strong players we're back then and how tuff captains like Roy kean was to install his leadership mentally in the squad. Fast-forward to today and it's very hard to watch a team that is on far more money now all complaining don't. Even look bothered when we are losing saying the manger works them to hard unbelievably Roy kean in 99 or 2000 became the highest paid player in the league on 50 thousand pound a week rashford is on 3 hundred and 65 thousand a week that's crazy ten hag needs to show them player's this documentary and show some of this new crop of player's this is how men play insane work ethic and drive they could learn a thing or too from 99 treble winning team.....

Wonderful
tdstevens17 May 2024
You know the story, you know the outcome, but this is is still essential watching. I lived through it as a United fan, going to most of the games during the season (now 58 years old, been going since 1972). The director has done a superb job, and it's wonderful to hear fresh insights from the players themselves who were responsible for the greatest season in United's history. Obviously essential viewing for any United fan, but most unbiased football fans will enjoy this. So many incredible moments, but obviously the F. A. Cup matches against Liverpool and Arsenal stand out, and of course 26-5-99 in Camp Nou. A testament to hard work, determination, and what a never-say-die attitude can do. Just fabulous.

A must watch for United fans and any genuinely neutral fans
nb9922 May 2024
United fans will love this program. A great synopsis of their finest ever achievement as a club. Interesting insights from nearly all the main players involved (notably Roy Keane didn't participate which is a shame). Amazing to see even some of the players surprised by new revelations. Those of us who remember 1999 will love reliving it and will love the additional insight given by players and staff involved. Those United fans too young to remember will maybe learn just why this was such a unique group and why they are still worshipped to this day.

It's harder for me to say whether neutral fans will enjoy this. Obviously fans of rival teams won't and will say it's self-indulgent nonsense. However I do believe genuinely neutral fans of football (if there is such a thing!) will enjoy the new insights and details which generally would be kept "behind closed doors" at and soon after the time it all happened.

For me, thoroughly enjoyable, just the right length and a great piece of football documentary TV.

Goosebumps

Watching this reminds me why I support Manchester United. It was the belief, the never give up mentality instilled in the players by the greatest of all time manager Sir Alex Ferguson.

If only the current player had half of that mentality, they might win trophies. It's not about money, greatness but the fans. The director has done an amazing job putting this documentary together.

I wish we find a manager like Sir Alex who can take the club back to where it belongs. I really hope the club is taken over by someone who knows football instead of the money sucking American owners who have taken the life out of this great club.

Man United till I die!!!

Amazing

Everything about this club put together. Unbelievably good. The passion and the struggle brought them together as one and made them who they were then. Mostly because they are being treated to be mentally tough and challenged every day. The Boss it's the real deal there after he gets his revenge on the end against the other football clubs and made a history today which can't be forgotten. Beckham is the greatest player at that time whit his reflection of the toughest times back then. The first episode of 99 begins with Manchester United in a state of flux, still bruised from losing out to Arsenal for the Premier League title in 1998. But when the players returned to start training for the 1998-99 season, Beckham's name was at the centre of a tabloid maelstrom.

FANTASTIC. Time Travel
GalAlba18 May 2024
I remember these times. I am a Scottish Hibs fan. Nevertheless, this year, was framed by this Manchester United team. The footballing world could not ignore their on field magic.

E. G. The night my future wife first introduced me to her father, Inter Milan vs Man Utd was showing on the big screen TV in the pub we met. I remember desperately trying to maintain my composure. But the excitement of these Manchester Utd games were infectious.

I watched the English FA Cup final in the pub with a few pals & it was just one of those great days; full of youth driven fun.

The evening of the European Cup final, which was electric viewing that had me & my pals 100% behind the red devils (which is understandable due to Scotland's links with this great club), was the evening I first told my future wife that I loved her.

All these moments tied to these events depicted so masterfully in this documentary.

Watching it I almost felt 21 again.

Football.....Bloody hell!
There's just something about these United documentaries that is so engaging, yes there's footage from the season reliving the goals scored; but what makes this so engaging are the insightful additions from the players, what they were thinking, what they were feeling, what was going on in their lives at the time, how they fought their own inner daemons and overcame their fears on the way to football immortality.

The one on one interviews really made this documentary, they give such an insight to what these lads had to go through (on and off the pitch).

This is one of those things you can watch again and again - tre-men-dous!

I was too young to even recall the incredible achievement of the United treble. But as a life long United fan, this documentary gave me chills. This was the greatest achievement in English football and the creators of this doc truly showcase the ups and downs of that roller coaster season.

The documentary gives a lot of insight into how the players and coaches were feeling throughout the season. Its amazing for those who were too young or can't remember as well how amazing the journey was.

I would not say this doc is only for United fans, its for football fans as well (apart from Uniteds rivals). Thank you to the producers for giving us United fans this doc. We needed this after such a pathetic season recently.

Legends are forever and the greats of 99 will never be forgotten.

Football, bloody 'ell!

Keeping team loyalties aside, if you're a fan of the sport, you've heard of the '99 Treble several times over the past several years, watched various doc, heard the players talk about it.

Manchester United dropping a doc on them making history 25 years ago, when Man. City is busy doing it (good/bad) in the present.... I found the timing of this release interesting. As much as I was excited to watch this doc, a part of me was 'Bruh, what's new? This is United holding on to something that happened ages go. Tell me there's gonna be something new.'

And there was. A lot of stuff you've heard but also a lot of people /stuff you've not from/of. If you asked a United fan, they'd point this doc to you and say here's the context behind the '99 Treble, and that's why it is > the City Tremble. Makes you appreciate the times when the sport was simple, 12M was a MASSIVE fee that came with the pressures that even a 80M price tag doesn't seem to have on players these days.

Technically, I loved the color correction and the sound design in the doc, really well done. I'd love to film interviews in manner, stitch them together and make a doc like this.

Must watch if you appreciate football, and a must watch if you're United fan.

Unlike the 99 team this was missed opportunity
timcrossuk22 May 2024
As a lifelong United fan, someone that was at every CL home game that season and on Deansgate for those celebrations I was unfortunately left underwhelmed by this documentary. The 3 episode format killed the momentum of the story and diluted most of the emotional highs and brought very little new to the story. Where were the insights from Fergie? Why did he make the decisions he did. Instead we just got humble platitudes. Maybe that was all he was willing to give but it was an obvious issue. No Roy Keane was a massive miss as well and to not have Clive Tyldesley's commentary for the final really pulled me out of the moment. Great to see the players talk about it their memories and worth a watch but it just wasn't as good as I expected it to be.

Goosebumps
vidwanssanat29 May 2024
"Manchester United '99" is a must-watch for any United fan. This TV series takes you right back to that unforgettable season when we did the treble - winning the Premier League, FA Cup, and Champions League all in one go. It's like a love letter to one of the greatest achievements in football history.

Right from the start, the series hits you with a wave of nostalgia. It's packed with old match footage, interviews with the players, and behind-the-scenes moments that you probably haven't seen before. If you were around to see it live, it'll bring back all those memories. If you're younger, it's a great way to understand why that season was so special.

The series does an amazing job of highlighting the key personalities. Sir Alex Ferguson, of course, comes across as the mastermind. You see how he managed to keep such a talented squad motivated and hungry for more success, even when the pressure was insane. The interviews with Fergie and the players show just how much respect he commanded.

Then there's the focus on the players themselves. You get deep dives into the contributions of legends like David Beckham, Ryan Giggs, Roy Keane, and Peter Schmeichel. Becks' free-kicks, Giggs' mazy runs, Keane's leadership, and Schmeichel's saves are all there, reminding you just how crucial they were. Hearing them talk about their experiences and emotions from that season adds so much depth. Beckham's transformation from a talented kid into a global icon, Keane's no-nonsense leadership, and Schmeichel's larger-than-life presence are all explored in detail.

The series doesn't shy away from the tough times either. It covers the ups and downs, like Roy Keane's red mist moments and Beckham's backlash after the '98 World Cup. These moments show that the road to glory wasn't always smooth, making the triumphs feel even more earned.

Production-wise, it's top-notch. The match footage is brilliantly edited, often showing critical moments from multiple angles. The interviews are raw and heartfelt, bringing an emotional layer to the narrative. The pacing is generally good, though some episodes might drag a bit if you're not a hardcore fan.

For United fans, this series is pure gold. It's not just about rewatching old games; it's about reliving the emotions, the drama, and the sheer joy of that season. It's also a great way to introduce newer fans to what makes Manchester United such a special club. Football fans in general will appreciate the deep dive into one of the sport's greatest stories.

That said, if you're not into football, you might find it a bit heavy on the details. It's very match-focused and stats-heavy at times, which could be a bit much if you're just a casual viewer. And yes, it's pretty heavy on the hero-worship, but can you blame them? These guys were legends.

In summary, "Manchester United '99" is an epic celebration of a legendary season. It captures the essence of what made that team so special - the talent, the teamwork, and the indomitable spirit. It's a tribute to a time when Manchester United was the best team in the world, and it'll leave you feeling proud to be a fan. If you love United, or even just love football, it's an absolute must-watch.

Football when it meant something
rgsfww26 May 2024
I'm not the worlds greatest football fan now, but this was unadulterated brilliant watching This was when playing for a manager, a club .. meant something.. you had pride in who you were playing for.

You knew the results.. you knew the outcome .. but listening to the many many players honest views and thoughts was truly wonderful.

As an old git, footballs prima Donna's are a bit sickeningly self centred.

Not saying this lot were saints .. but truly inspiring belief in your manager and your club brings back some glorious memories.

You could hate Manchester United now but still love this Brilliant compilation.

Superb
glla20037 June 2024
As superb retelling of how Manchester United won the treble in 1999 in 3 episodes. First episode is about the premier league title, second episode focuses on the FA cup and the third episode focuses on the Champions League title. With insights from the players, trainers, chairman and the legendary Manchester United manager Alex Ferguson. Telling the lead up to the 1998-99 season.

As a friend of a massive Man U. Fan, and myself a big Peter Schmeichel fan. I told my friend the exact outcome of the Champions League final. My friend thought I had jinxed it... I argued him that they would win the treble because noone had done it before.
