Meredith struggles to balance her roles as a surgeon and a mother.

Everyone seems to be having a rough time waking up, but Callie is helping Derek and Meredith get out the door each day, and gives Meredith a kiss on her way out.

Cristina and Jo are treating a guy named Jimmy Evans, who is 57. He's playfully flirtatious with Jo as Cristina passes him off to her. Cristina gets a message about a possible match for a transplant patient. Jo reveals Jimmy is Alex's dad, but Alex doesn't want to see him.

Meredith steals Bailey's liver transplant. Leah, meanwhile, brings Arizona coffee and Arizona thinks she might have brought Leah back to her apartment after the gala. Callie gets annoyed when Arizona gives her the mortgage slips for the apartment and expects Callie to thank her.

Stephanie is nervous about meeting Jackson's mom.

Callie and Hunt compare notes on their rebound relationships. Callie's is with Derek and Meredith. Hunt's is with Emma from Seattle Presbyterian, who has made him banana bread. They go to treat 22-year-old Reese, who was severely injured while hang gliding. Her sister disapproves of her apparent daredevil stunts.

Webber gets up out of bed to take two steps and Catherine and Bailey cheer him on. He's annoyed. Outside the room, Catherine tells Bailey she's worried about Webber's progress, but Bailey says he needs more time and support. Catherine wants to help. She goes to get some pillows for Webber and walks in on Jackson and Stephanie making out. The first meeting does not go well.

Catherine chastises Jackson while she goes back to take care of Webber.

Meredith checks on her patient, a woman named Sam. She's the one getting a new heart and liver.

Stephanie checks on a guy named Mr. Samuels who has had trouble urinating. His penis is swollen after being stung by 25 or 30 bees. He seems to be making up a story about falling asleep while eating a honey sandwich naked, then asks Stephanie if the treatment would be different if the bees were actually hornets.

Meredith and Derek try to figure out which of them can pick up Zola. Meredith is going to check with Callie.

Jo has Jimmy walking on a treadmill and says he needs to get off drugs if he's going to get better. She's not going to release him until he gets on methadone. He's a blues guitarist and says he's canceled gigs because of his hospital stay and needs to get back.

Reese's sister explains that she's already donated bone marrow and a liver to her daredevil sister. She's ready to give her a kidney now. She further explains that Reese had cancer at 2 years old and their parents had her to save Reese. She's a "donor baby."

Stephanie needs help with Mr. Samuels and goes to Catherine, a urologist. Stephanie stumbles over the explanation that she needs assistance with a large penis.

During the kidney surgery, Callie mentions that she needs to kick Arizona out of her apartment, but April stands up for Arizona and says the apartment is already outfitted for Arizona's needs. Shane brings the message to Callie that Meredith needs her to get Zola have a tea party at 3, but Callie says she can't do it until 6.

Leah comes into a surgery with Arizona, telling her that Arizona mentioned after the gala that she should scrub in. But Arizona asks her to go help on the floor.

Jo comes to Alex and urges him to connect with his dad before she discharges him, telling Alex about how badly she wanted a father.

Catherine asks Mr. Samuels directly if he put his penis into a hornet's nest. His bladder bursts as Catherine is giving Stephanie a hard time for her shoddy work.

Catherine tells Webber she wants him to come home with her.

Meredith gets a call from day care. Zola fell and hit her head. Bailey tells her to go and she'll check in with Cristina.

Jo comes to Jimmy with news that she got him into a rehab clinic for free, but he doesn't want to go. He opens up about how he didn't promise her he'd go, even when she suggested it, because making promises and not following through with them is how you lose everything and make your kids hate you. Jo goes straight to Alex and asks him to help his dad, but Alex tells Jo not to talk to him about it again.

Sam is going into heart failure and Cristina decides to operate right away.

In the hornet's nest penis guy's surgery, Jackson ends up with Stephanie and Catherine, who makes some innuendos about how men often put their penises where they don't belong.

Callie tells Reese's sister she Reese won't need a kidney right away. She tells Callie to "open the toolbox." Callie says they can wait for a donor and she doesn't need to be spare parts for her sister anymore. The woman says she would like to get a boyfriend and go on a cruise, she's relieved that she can say, "no." Callie excitedly gets in on it.

Mr. Samuels' wife comes in and isn't too surprised that her husband put his penis in the hornets' nest while she was out of town. She says he likes a little pain with his pleasure and, while it's odd, it's just one weird thing and there's so much else that's great about him.

Meredith rushes back to the O.R., but Cristina tells her she isn't prepared to do the surgery and Bailey is going to do it. Meredith hasn't read a journal article that Cristina asked her to read and Cristina just thinks Bailey is better prepared.

Leah is tentative while examining Webber and he tells her not to hesitate in giving him a thorough exam because anything less is making her a bad doctor and him a sicker patient. His pancreas still needs a drain. Catherine comes in and realizes he's not going back home with her.

Callie is leaving and Hunt mentions that he's going to talk to Reese's sister, who decided to donate a kidney after all.

Alex ends up in an elevator with his dad, who doesn't seem to recognize him during the whole ride. Alex appears nearly ready to say something when the doors open and Jimmy half turns and says, "Take it easy, pal."

Cristina tells Meredith that she's not as good of a surgeon as Cristina is, because she has different priorities, cut back in the O.R. and doesn't do research. Cristina tells Meredith that Bailey, Callie and Ellis Grey "never let up," but Meredith has let up. She says Meredith has made "valid choices" but they're affecting her skills.

"We're in different places now," Cristina says, "and that's OK."

Callie finds Arizona at the bar and tells her she needs her to leave the apartment. Arizona is stunned and doesn't say anything, but she hears, "You can stay at my place." It's Leah. Arizona admits she doesn't remember what happened at her house. Leah says they "hung out." She replays the whole night for Arizona, which just included eating grilled cheese sandwiches and watching film of Derek doing a fancy spinal surgery.

Stephanie confronts Catherine at the bar and tries to clear the air. It works and Catherine asks her to stay when Jackson shows up for drinks.

Callie is back in her apartment and dances in her underwear while Sofia sleeps.

Meredith is upset when Derek gets home because she wasn't able to give Zola her tea party and Derek didn't help because he was in a surgery all afternoon. Meredith is upset because she's having to put off her work and can't give 100 percent to both her work and children.
