- A family rivalry takes center stage, leading to an emotional breakdown. Meanwhile, the tribes watch in disbelief as a castaway quits the game and a shocking blindside plays out at tribal council.
- Previously on 'Survivor': Ten former "Survivor" players and their loved ones were separated into different tribes. With Redemption Island in play this season, Rupert lost the first challenge there to Candace and Marissa and was the first person voted off. In a twist, the loved one of someone on Redemption Island will have the option of switching places this season. By winning the Redemption Island challenge, Candace was able to decide who would get a clue to the hidden immunity idol. She gave it to her husband, John. The Tadhana tribe focused on voting out Rachel in an effort to weaken the Galang tribe, because they think her loved one, Tyson, will switch places with her on Redemption Island. Meanwhile, Galang is in a zen state of mind, except for Colton, who is intent on disturbing the peace. Galang won the immunity challenge and Brad was annoyed with Gervase showboating again, saying he's going to body slam him at the next physical immunity challenge.
Galanga camp: The players are sitting around joking about Tyson's cupcake belt and Colton tries to mix things up by talking strategy. Nobody wants to deal with it.
Aras tries to talk Colton through it, but tells us that Colton doesn't stand a chance out there. Colton wants Aras to assure him he has a second chance, but Aras can't tell him that.
Redemption Island: Tyson looks none too pleased that his girlfriend Rachel was voted out. He says, "It's not a bad move" and acknowledges that the other tribes must think he would have considered switching places with her. Jeff asks Tyson if he wants to switch places. Rachel tells Tyson to stay because he has a better chance of winning the whole game. Tyson tells the other tribe to watch out and points out "Mr. Football," Brad, and they get into a little war of words, with Brad calling out Galang for showboating after challenges. Marissa chimes in and tells Brad they should vote out the weakest person. Marissa unleashes an expletive at Brad.
Colton suddenly starts crying, saying he doesn't want to be there anymore.
"You're quitting, again?" Jeff says, adding that Colton is making "a very selfish move" abandoning his tribe.
Colton says his back is against the wall and he's tired of "being that person," referring to the kind of person he was the last time he was on the show.
"We brought a quitter back, and we got a quitter again," Jeff says before sending Colton home without giving him "the honor" of throwing his buff into the urn, which he says is reserved "for people who compete."
On to the challenge, the players will have to stack domino-like tiles on an angular platform track. Once all the tiles are stacked the right way, the dominos should be fall over just the right way, releasing a ball that will fall and break a plate.
Candace puts her tiles together quickly and wins the challenge. Marissa and Rachel keep going for several tries at stacking their dominos, Marissa's fall just right and she stays in. Rachel is gone.
Candace again gives the clue to the immunity idol to her husband, John.
Galang camp: Tyson tells us the move to vote out Rachel made sense and now he's more intent on making it to the end. He tears up talking about saying goodbye to her and says he's glad she at least had fun while she was there, unlike Colton who let the game make him so angry. Tyson then talks about Monica, who must have been hurting after hearing Brad take a verbal beating at Redemption Island. Tyson says Brad doesn't know how to play the game and is just putting a bigger target on his own back.
Tadhana camp: Brad asks the group if he's being a tyrant. He tells us that he, indeed, is making all the decisions but trying to make everyone else feel like it's a group effort.
John is off looking for the idol and is starting to worry that everyone is going to assume he has it. He goes to Brad and tells him about the second clue. John says they shouldn't go off looking for it together, though, because he doesn't want the other guys to think that he and Brad are especially tight. Brad tells us this idol situation will be a litmus test for how much John trusts him and how much he trusts John.
Galang: Tree mail suggests the challenge is going to be physical. Aras is excited to face his brother in something physical, saying that Vytas has always been a bully. Vytas, meanwhile, sees it as a chance to beat Aras "at something."
Immunity challenge: In pairs, members from each tribe will battle, sumo-style, on a platform above the water. Using a pad on their forearms, they have to try to bump each other off the platform. The first team to win five of these duels wins immunity and a reward of either comfort (pillows and blankets) or fishing gear.
Brad and Gervase, in the much-anticipated physical contest, square off first. It's a good battle, considering Gervase is a lankier fellow going up against a former NFL defensive lineman, but Brad eventually gets leverage and bumps Gervase off. Tadhana leads 1-0.
Laura B. gets the best of Katie, tying the game 1-1.
John meets up against Aras and knocks him into the water to give Tadhana a 2-1 lead.
Ciera versus Kat starts tentatively, but Kat makes one good push to tie it 2-2.
Hayden and Tyson meet on the platform, and Hayden quickly knocks Tyson off. Tyson's shoulder pops out "a little," according to the medic who checks him out on the spot. She says he'll probably pop it out if he goes again in this challenge. Tyson sits back down, using his buff as a makeshift sling. Tadhana takes a 3-2 lead.
Tina faces her own daughter next and, in one of the best of the duels, Tina knocks off her daughter and ties it again, 3-3.
Aras and Vytas square off next, with Aras admitted that he feels like he's 7 again. Vytas says Aras has been scared of him all his life. They battle to a stalemate for a moment and Aras gives his brother a chance to stand up and start fresh, but Vytas tries to sneak a push in and Aras battles back to knock Vytas into the water, giving Galang a 4-3 lead.
Laura M. faces her daughter, Ciera. Laura is crying before the duel even starts, saying it doesn't feel good to think about hurting her own child. Ciera tells her she's not hurting her. They start and Maura, indeed, knocks her daughter into the water to win the challenge for Galang.
John tells us it's "very frustrating" that his team lost to "a team of mothers and grandmothers."
Tadhana camp: Vytas is upset that he lost to his brother, even after he gave him "a little bit of a cheap shot."
The guys all go off to vent about the girls. They start talking about how Ciera isn't helping in challenges or at camp. They settle on Ciera and, Brad says, they should try to enjoy the rest of the afternoon.
As soon as John leaves, Brad tells the other guys that John is a threat and needs to go. Brad tells us he's realized that with Candace dominating at Redemption Island and John potentially holding an idol, he won't be able to control John if there is a merge and Candace comes back into the game.
Hayden tells us he's a little surprised by Brad's suggestion and he worries it could be like "opening Pandora's box."
Brad goes to Ciera and Katie and tells them they're all going to vote John, and the alternative is that one of the girls has to go. Brad presents the caveat that he will be the one person not to vote John, just in case he gets back into the game and Brad needs to bring John back into the mix.
Vytas tells us he doesn't like that level of deception that Brad is proposing, saying Brad wants to orchestrate the whole thing but let everyone else do the dirty work.
Ciera tells Hayden and Vytas she's worried about John playing the idol. Vytas, Hayden, Katie and Ciera then propose the idea of voting out Brad.
Tribal Council: Ciera admits it was embarrassing to lose to her mom and that they could have had a better chance if she or Katie could have won.
Vytas tells Jeff that the split in the tribe isn't simply "men versus women," but more about trust. Brad says it's "really difficult" to be seen as the kingpin.
Hayden notes that he doesn't know whether John has found the idol and that John hasn't shared the clues with him. He says that makes for some suspicion about how close he and John are, but Hayden says he needs to trust John. Brad suddenly chimes in that every player can't be telling the truth about everything all the time, and that at some point they have to think about how to "better themselves" because there will only be one winner of the whole game. Vytas and Hayden seem to look at each other after Brad says this.
The vote: Ciera writes down a name we don't see and says, "I hope this gets you out of the game because you are a huge threat to me."
No one plays an idol and Jeff reads the votes: Ciera, John, John, John, and the third person voted out is John.
