What an amazing and wonderful display and huge kudos to Disney and the Funhouse team for portraying such a unique culture that rarely gets highlighted or even mentioned, the Armenians.
The Vardavar episode highlights the Armenian summer holiday of Vardavar which is essentially a holiday where people spray each other with water in a fun and friendly manner.
The episode focuses on Minnie who decides to wear the wrong outfit to the holiday and is not able to enjoy the festivities. Mickey and his friends meet Astghik, which means little star in Armenian. She helps Minnie find a more favorable outfit, an Armenian Taraz so she can get in on the fun!
The entire episode has such great references to Armenian culture and is very well done.
The greatest moment for any young Armenian is to hear the Armenian language and see Astghik represented and embraced by Disney. It is so inspirational for Disney to go all in on this episode and this writer hopes to see more representation and diversity in Disney's cartoons moving forward. Truly a pivotal and historic moment!
