The story of Anna Politkovskaya made worldwide headlines when the tragedy came to light. The journalist had been an outspoken critic of Vladimir Putin over his handling of Chechnya and escalating war crimes. Words of War covers her time on the ground in Chechnya and the heightened violence that destabilized the region.
Through her reporting, she opened the world’s eyes to the injustice and dehumanization in the region. This made Politkovskaya an enemy of Putin and his control of the state. This week, stars of Words of War, Maxine Peake and Jason Isaacs, spoke to FandomWire about their time working on the film.

Josh Zetumer has written major features like Robocop and Patriots’ Day, but even he admits that those big budget projects didn’t compare to Say Nothing, the FX limited series that he adapted from Patrick Radden Keefe’s nonfiction bestseller about The Troubles in Northern Ireland — his first time at the helm as a showrunner. “When you work in features, they give you the money, but you’ve got to sit in the back seat as the writer,” he says. “This was the chance for me to finally step up and actually get to drive, and I'm immensely proud of how the show’s turned out, given what a colossal clusterf--k it could have been.”

The Peabody Awards revealed their 2025 honorees this morning, and the winner’s list included some expected titles and a surprise omission or two. “Shogun” and “Baby Reindeer” were a given; Julio Torres’ “Fantasmas” was not. Then again, the recent Peabody Awards committee also recognized the superior “Los Espookys,” so perhaps Torres has a fan or two among the voters.
Other Entertainment winners included PBS’ “Mr Bates vs The Post Office,” Steven Zaillian’s “Ripley,” FX’s “Say Nothing,” and Peacock’s “We Are Lady Parts.”
Entertainment nominees that didn’t make the final cut included (shockingly) the third season of “Hacks,” “Ramy Youssef: More Feelings,” “Alex Edelman: Just For Us,” and, in a “whew, cause it was bad,” the FX limited series “Clipped.”

In June 2024, Presumed Innocent was poised to become a hit on Apple TV+. The excitement surrounding the show was fueled by the love for the 1990 feature film of the same title, which starred Harrison Ford. Created by David E. Kelley and produced by J.J. Abrams, the series aimed to offer a more detailed and intimate adaptation of Scott Turow's 1987 novel, with Jake Gyllenhaal making his big television debut as the leading man.
As it aired over the summer, Presumed Innocent became Apple TV+'s most-watched drama series to date, prompting a renewal for a second season before the first one concluded. Jane Millichip, CEO of BAFTA, has expressed confidence in the resilience of British television despite recent industry challenges, describing the creative and craft quality of U.K. TV as being at “the highest it’s ever been.”
Speaking after the announcement of the BAFTA TV and Craft nominations, which saw Netflix’s “Baby Reindeer” leading with eight nods, Millichip addressed concerns about what some have labeled a crisis in British television production, especially in the scripted space.
“Notwithstanding the fact that we’ve had a tough market for the last year or so, this year’s nominees show that creatively and craft wise, British TV is in rude health,” Millichip told Variety. “The quality of the nominations is extraordinary, and a lot of brilliant TV didn’t get nominated. We have 134 nominated programs out of just over 600 programs entered.”

The Oscars are over. The Golden Globes have all been handed out. And the BAFTAs are but a swiftly fading, "Did David Tennant really sing 500 Miles with James McAvoy and Anna Kendrick?" memory now. Leading the way with a solid eight nominations is Richard Gadd's Netflix stalker drama Baby Reindeer, while racy Disney+ show Rivals, Apple TV+ Slough House spies joint Slow Horses, and ITV's incendiary Mr Bates Vs The Post Office all follow close behind with an impressive six nominations each.

Cristin Milioti, Megan Thee Stallion and Kathy Bates are among the recipients of this year’s Gracie Awards by the Alliance for Women in Media Foundation.
This year’s celebration marks the 50th anniversary of the awards and will highlight the impact of women’s voices across television, audio, streaming, and digital platforms. Previous honorees of the Gracies have include Ava DuVernay, Carol Burnett, Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex, Marlo Thomas, Michelle Obama, Nicole Kidman, Oprah Winfrey, and Sandra Oh.
“For 50 years, the Gracie Awards have honored the storytellers who push boundaries and redefine what’s possible,” said Becky Brooks, President of Awmf, in a statement. “This is more than an awards show—it is a movement that has championed inclusion, representation, and truth in the media. Liam Neeson might be a household name now, but the inception of his career can be traced back to low-budget film/television titles and modest stage productions. In fact, filmmaker John Boorman noticed Neeson's potential when he was on stage for "Of Mice and Men," which led to his film debut in the 1981 Arthurian saga, "Excalibur." Sure enough, "Excalibur" opened many doors for Neeson, and he starred in a handful of projects over the years, including 1986's "The Mission."
In that film, Neeson played a Catholic missionary in 18th-century South America alongside Robert De Niro and Jeremy Irons, and this small yet impactful role altered the trajectory of Neeson's acting career. You see, De Niro introduced Neeson to an American casting director while they were filming together, which allowed the latter to acquire a work visa in the U.S. and work his way up the ranks. At this time last year, few likely had heard of Richard Gadd or Jessica Gunning, and the term “baby reindeer” didn’t immediately call to mind a harrowing exploration of sexual abuse and codependency. Yet, within a month, Baby Reindeer became one of last year’s most widely seen shows, and when the Emmy Awards announced its winners in the limited series and movie categories in September, Gadd, Gunning, and Baby Reindeer won. That’s illustrative of how quickly fortunes can change in the limited series race, which typically resets each season (save for an anthology series like Monsters or Fargo). Ahead, the early 2025 Emmy Awards odds in the movie/limited series categories.

El reparto de esta nueva temporada está formado por Michele Austin (Hard Truths), Ben Bailey Smith (David Brent: Life on the Road), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Josh Finan (Say Nothing), James Nelson-Joyce (The Outlaws), Will Poulter (Guardianes de la galaxia Vol. 3...

Nearly two years have passed since Netflix debuted a new season of Black Mirror, even if it feels like much longer. The streamer has finally unveiled a trailer and new images for the upcoming seventh season, along with announcing an April 10, 2025 premiere date.
“You can expect a mix of genres and styles,” stated series creator Charlie Brooker during the 2024 Geeked Week festival. “We’ve got six episodes this time, and two of them are basically feature-length. Some of them are deeply unpleasant, some are quite funny, and some are emotional.”
Among them is the much-anticipated sequel to one of Black Mirror‘s most popular, critically acclaimed episodes, season four’s “USS Callister.” The sequel marks the first time Brooker has ever revisited any of the previous six seasons’ episodes.

The new season of Black Mirror is said to be a return — in more ways than one. In the newly released trailer for Season 7, it looks like more than a few characters and episodes will be revisited, including the now iconic ''USS Callister" episode from Season 4. And according to series creator Charlie Brooker, this new batch of episodes will also be a return to form for fans of the darkly satirical and at-times harrowing anthology series.
Calling the forthcoming season "a little bit Og Black Mirror," Brooker noted that Season 7 — which is slated to hit Netflix on April 10, 2025, goes "back to basics in many ways. They're all sci-fi stories," a welcome change after the past few seasons have focused more on the horror aspect than anything. "There's definitely some horrifying things that occur," he added, "but maybe not in an overt horror-movie way. There's definitely some disturbing content in it.

Because the world does not feel dystopian enough, “Black Mirror” is finally releasing its Season 7 premiere date. The sci-fi anthology from Charlie Brooker will return on April 10 with six new episodes.
This new season will contain a previously announced followup to the Emmy-winning “USS Callister” starring Cristin Milioti. Fittingly, the trailer for this new season starts with Milioti’s Lieutenant Cole gasping as an unseen voice says “We’d like to welcome you back.”
The trailer then cycles between clips of wild scenarios that are never fully explained. One minute, a man is putting on a Batman mask. The next, Issa Rae is being transported into a black-and-white world filled with AI people. Still the next, Rashida Jones collapses like a powered off robot while pitching cereal in front of a class of children. You know, classic “Black Mirror” stuff.
But the most exciting part of this first trailer does...

Black Mirror has finally set a return date and along with the release date announcement, Netflix has dropped a captivating trailer and slew of photos teasing the forthcoming episodes.
The trailer (below) merges the new episodes into one cohesive tease for the dystopian series, set to a foreboding cover of “Dream a Little Dream.” The clips and snippets span genres and introduce the star-studded cast, as creator-writer Charlie Brooker once again plans to tackle predictive sci-fi stories that will touch on AI, human consciousness and technology.
The six-episode season releases April 10 on Netflix.
Joining the already announced cast for season seven are Michele Austin (Hard Truths), Ben Bailey Smith (David Brent: Life on the Road), Asim Chaudhry (People Just Do Nothing), Josh Finan (Say Nothing), James Nelson-Joyce (The Outlaws), Will Poulter (Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3), Jay Simpson (Pride & Prejudice, The Holiday) and Michael Workéyè (This Is Going to Hurt...

The USC Libraries announced the winners for the 37th annual USC Libraries Scripter Award, which honors the year’s best film and television adaptations, as well as the works on which they are based. This group of academics, industry professionals, and critics (for which I vote) is often predictive of the Adapted Screenplay Oscar race. Last year following its Scripter win, “American Fiction” took home the Oscar. Selection committee chair Howard Rodman announced the winners on February 22 at a black-tie ceremony at USC’s Town and Gown ballroom, replacing the usual Doheny Library.
For the third year in a row, “Slow Horses” was nominated for episodic series, after winning the past two years, but this time lost to Hulu’s “Say Nothing,” a limited series adapted by Joshua Zetumer from the sprawling nonfiction book about the Troubles in Ireland by Patrick Radden Keefe. They won for the episode “The People in the Dirt.

The USC Scripter Awards recognized Conclave and Say Nothing for achievements in adapted screenwriting for film and television. The ceremony, held in the Town & Gown ballroom at USC, awarded both the writers of the adapted screenplays and the authors of the original works they were based on.
Peter Straughan received the film award for Conclave, adapted from Robert Harris’s novel. The political thriller follows Cardinal Lomeli as he navigates the power struggles of a secretive papal election. The film has earned multiple accolades this season, including a Golden Globe for Best Screenplay, and remains a contender in the Oscar race with eight nominations, including Best Picture.

“Conclave” won the USC Libraries Scripter Award for the best adapted screenplay of 2025, solidifying its position as the Oscar favorite in that category. The ceremony took place on Saturday evening on the USC campus in downtown Los Angeles.
The Scripter Award goes to the author of an adapted screenplay and to the author of the original work on which that screenplay was based, with screenwriter Peter Straughan accepting the award on behalf of himself and novelist Robert Harris.
“Conclave” is an Oscar nominee for Best Adapted Screenplay and it won the Scripter in a category that also included fellow Academy Award nominees “A Complete Unknown,” “Nickel Boys” and “Sing Sing.”
In the 38 years since the Scripter Awards began in 1988, its winner has matched the Oscar winner for Best Adapted Screenplay 16 times. Half of those times came in an eight-year stretch between 2011 and 2018, which was followed by four years in which the awards did not match.
