- When Fluttershy is pressured to help forcefully deal with a vampire fruit bat infestation, the plan's results backfire horrifically.
- Apple Bucking Season has begun, and Applejack eagerly rushes out into her family's orchard to begin bucking. However, her first kicks reveal a crop of mushy apples: sucked dry of their juices by vampire fruit bats!
AJ calls her friends to help her deal with the fruit bats. While she wishes to run them off the farm, it is Fluttershy who feels that maybe they can reason with the bats, and they will leave peacefully. However, her attempts do not bear fruit.
Twilight Sparkle looks over her books, and finds that she can cast a spell, that should be able to make the bats stop sucking the apples on the farm, but tells Fluttershy that she'll need to use her Stare powers to hold them in sway. Fluttershy protests this, claiming that a more peaceful solution, would be to just create a sanctuary on the farm that the fruit bats could take refuge in. As well, they spit out the seeds of the apples they consume, and these seeds seem to grow even better fruit.
But even with this statement, the others are convinced that Twilight's methods are more sound.
The ponies gather up the fruit bats, and under protest, Fluttershy uses her stare powers on them, causing them to snap to attention. Twilight then casts her spell, and after a test, the bats refuse to suck on any of the farm's apples!
The next day, AJ goes out to the orchard, but is surprised to still find apples being sucked dry. The first culprits are the bats, but when they still show no inclination to suck apples of their juices, the girls search the orchard for the culprit.
As they split up, a fast, winged creature spooks several of them, before Pinkie Pie finds it hanging from a tree. It turns out to be Fluttershy, with fangs, and reddish eyes!
As the girls question what has happened to their friend, Twilight offers an explanation: When she cast her spell, the vampiric ability to suck juice from apples, somehow got transferred into Fluttershy, as she had her attention connected to the bats.
After their attempts to get Fluttershy to come quietly fail, they lure her out with a giant apple Applejack has been saving. When she gets into range, Twilight uses her magic, and Fluttershy is returned to normal.
The next day, the vampire fruit bats are returned to their normal fruit-sucking state, and Applejack has set aside a portion of her orchard for them. She then apologizes to Fluttershy for not taking her suggestion seriously, and the girls all celebrate...but unseen by them, it still appears that Fluttershy has her fangs!
