Peter Murrieta has signed a first-look deal with Universal Television, Variety has learned exclusively.

Under the deal, Murrieta will develop original content for broadcast, cable and streaming platforms. He was previously an executive producer on “Mr. Iglesias” at Netflix and recently co-wrote the Lifetime movie “Feliz Navidad” with his wife Aliza, with Mario Lopez starring. He was also the showrunner and executive producer on the Disney Channel series “Wizards of Waverly Place.” His other credits include “Superior Donuts” and “One Day at a Time.”

“We couldn’t be happier to be working with Peter in this new way,” said Jim Donnelly, executive vice president of comedy development at Universal Television. “Besides being a hilarious writer and all-around great guy, he has an amazing track record of championing and supporting fellow LatinX voices and talent. Vertical Entertainment has obtained U.S. distribution rights to Henchmen, the Bron Animation action comedy featuring the voices of Thomas Middleditch, James Marsden and Rosario Dawson. Adam Wood wrote and directed the pic, which marked his feature-length directorial debut. Based on a story by Jay D. Waxman and Wood, the film will be available on digital platforms October 9.

Here is the synopsis: In a world of super-villains, evil schemes and global domination, someone has to take out the trash. Welcome to the world of Henchmen, third class. When Lester (Middleditch), a fresh-faced recruit, joins the Union of Evil, he is assigned to a motley crew of blue-collar workers led by fallen henchmen Hank. But when Lester accidentally steals a super-villain’s ultimate weapon, Hank must break his risk-nothing code to save the boy he’s befriended, even if it means becoming the one thing he has always avoided: a hero.

Tubi, the ad-supported streaming service acquired this year by Fox, unveiled a slew of new library titles, a dedicated Spanish-language destination Tubi en Español, and new advertising solutions in a NewFronts presentation.

New programming includes the entire first season of Fox’s Lego Masters; titles based on Mattel franchises like Barbie and American Girl; six movies featuring the animated Asian character Anpanman; family-friendly film Henchmen; animated comedy Monster Family and animated feature The Magic Brush.

Westworld‘s James Marsden and veteran actor Ed Asner are set to co-star opposite Linda Cardellini and Christina Applegate in Dead to Me, Netflix’s half-hour dark comedy series from writer Liz Feldman, Will Ferrell and Adam McKay’s Gloria Sanchez Prods. and CBS TV Studios.

Written by Feldman, Dead to Me, which has a 10-episode straight-to-series order, has been described as a comedic Big Little Lies. It is about a powerful friendship that blossoms between Jen (Applegate), a tightly wound widow, and Judy (Cardellini), a free spirit with a shocking secret.

Marsden will play a love interest to Judy (Cardellini) who seems confident and logical, but beyond that facade is a vulnerable man with a complicated past who is drawn to Judy’s big heart and free spirit. Maya Rudolph, Terry Crews, Martin Short, Jane Krakowski and Sean Cullen have joined the cast of Bron Animation’s The Willoughbys.

Kris Pearn writes and directs and Cory Evans co-directs the story of the four Willoughby children, abandoned by their selfish parents, who embark on an adventure through the modern world. They encounter a cat, an orphan, a nanny and a confection mogul on their quest to reunite with the family they were born into.

Rudolph will voice Nanny, who looks after the Willoughby children. Crews is voicing the confection mogul Commander Melanoff, and Short and Krakowski give voice to Father and Mother Willoughby, parents so in love with each other they forget they even have children. Cullen voices the twin boys Barnaby A and B.

Gervais was previously announced as the narrator of the film, which is currently in pre-production at Bron’s studio in Burnaby...

This is a list that honors the best antagonists in the Bond franchise. They’re the ones that are the most creative, memorable, or relentless, all characteristics which help make their respected films that much better. The executive has expanded her responsibilities as part of the recent reorganisation of Bron Media Corp.

“It was important for Bron Animation to have its own identity and defined leadership group,” said CEO Aaron L Gilbert, “and Brenda has been a driving force behind our animation group since 2013.”

Ms Gilbert has appointed three vice-presidents to the Bron Animation leadership team. Adam Wood has been named vice-president of creative, Teunis de Raat vice-president of digital and Luke Carroll’s (pictured) role has been expanded to vice-president of production and development.

“These three talented people lead our incredible creative, technical and production teams at Bron Animation,” she said.

After the group survive a shift working for The Gluttonator (Will Sasso), they are sent to work at the Vault of Villainy, where Lester accidentally steals the 'ultimate weapon'.

Meanwhile, the evil Baron Blackout (Molina) and his henchman Biff (Riggle) are determined to defeat their nemesis Captain Superior (Fillion) - a situation which causes a whole host of problems.

Last August, an animated short film from Bron Studios premiered at the computer graphics conference Siggraph, and caught the attention of Gary Sanchez Productions heads Adam McKay, Will Ferrell, and Chris Henchy. The short, titled Henchmen: Ill Suited, told the tale of a dreamy janitor working in a supervillain museum who winds up inside of a dangerous super suit. Not much has been heard of it since Siggraph, but now we’ve received word that a feature film adaptation is officially moving forward and already has a talented group of actors all set to lend their voices.

It must be a nice feeling to have your phone ring and hear Will Ferrell and Adam McKay on the other end, and it's a feeling familiar to former Pixar animator Adam Wood. The duo, via their Gary Sanchez Productions shingle, have snapped up the feature film rights to his short "Henchmen: Ill Suited," and now you can see what got the comedy pair so excited in the first place. The folks at Film School Rejects have tracked down the Siggraph 2014 short, and it does a lot with a little. We are introduced to a lowly janitor who works in the museum of Supervillain City and who accidentally winds up in a powerful space suit, which of course leads to all sorts of trouble. Obviously, the feature will expand the character and story, with the plot  centering on blue collar stiff Hank rescuing not only the accident prone janitor but his love interest.

“Produced by Will Ferrell and Adam McKay” might not mean a lot these days. Under their Gary Sanchez banner, they’ve given us disappointments like The Campaign, Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters and this summer’s Tammy, to name just a few. Even Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues was a slight letdown. Their future might seem no better, with movies like a Hansel and Gretel sequel, a Flintstones feature and an adaptation of the TV series Manimal all in development.
