For a full week, I dove in the Pacific with everything from a pack of Lemon sharks to a single 17-ft Tiger shark, but the moment we jumped in the water with stingrays, I was beyond spooked. This experience should have been a piece of cake, especially given the last few days of intense diving, where I literally could have lost my life to a shark, but if I never have to see another stingray I'll be ok with that. As the host of Discovery Channel's Shark After Dark, Eli Roth knows a thing or two about sharks.
But one surprising fact about the ocean's apex predators? They don't like bubbles.
"The biggest misconception about sharks is that they are genuinely interested in attacking and eating people," says Roth.
"When they see humans underwater we are very large so we're almost their size. They're curious and they want to know what we are about, but as soon as you blow bubbles they swim away."

As a brand new diver, jumping into the ocean in search of a tiger shark can be a very daunting task. For one, the tiger shark comes second only to Great Whites in attacking humans. But still, there I was in the French Polynesian islands with the Discovery Channel and Eli Roth about to go in search of one. It was just a month earlier in New York City, when my editor asked if I wanted to go diving with sharks in Tahiti for Shark Week. Without hesitation I jumped at the chance, but now looking directly at a 17-foot tiger shark headed my way,...

Earlier this year, Eli Roth signed onto, then quickly departed, the long anticipated big screen adaptation of Meg. Upon exiting the giant killer shark movie, the acclaimed horror director wasn't quick to tell the world what he was doing next instead. Now we have an answer. The man behind the Hostel franchise is going to reboot Death Wish with Bruce Willis already confirmed for the lead role of Paul Kersey.
Death Wish follows nice a mild-mannered liberal, New York City architect Paul Kersey (Charles Bronson), who snaps after intruders break into his home, murdering his wife (Hope Lange) and violently raping his daughter. A business trip to Tucson, Ariz., lands him a gift from a client, a revolver he uses to patrol the streets when he returns home. Frustrated that the police cannot find the intruders, he become a vigilante, gunning down any criminal that crosses his path. The public finds this vigilantism heroic.

Director Eli Roth is best known for his gruesome horror films, affectionately and derisively described as “torture porn,” like “Hostel,” “Cabin Fever,” and most recently “The Green Inferno.” But with his last film, the sexual home invasion thriller “Knock Knock,” Roth has moved away from horror into other genre realms. Case in point: According to The Hollywood Reporter, Roth is attached to direct the remake of Michael Winner’s 1974 vigilante action film “Death Wish.” Bruce Willis is currently attached to star as the film’s protagonist.
In a recent interview with IndieWIRE’s Graham Winfrey, Roth says that he likes “originality and…when you take a classic thing and put your own twist on it. You watch a movie like ‘The Witch’ and it’s such a great, fantastic take on the classic New England witch fairy tale, and you say ‘Yeah that’s the type of movie that should be out there,...

Just when you thought it was safe to go back in the water, Discovery reminds you to be completely terrified as they’ve released their plans for Shark Week 2016. The cable network announced the 28th annual event celebrating the fanged fish will run between June 26 - July 3. During this time, Discovery will air nearly 20 different shows about sharks with titles like Air Jaws: Night Stalker, Nuclear Sharks and Sharksanity. The network will also bring back Shark After Dark, a late-night talk show hosted by horror maven Eli Roth. Shark Week has been a boon for Discovery. The 2015 version was the network’s highest rated yet, with shows averaging 1.27 million viewers. A program called Super Predator bought in 3.35 million viewers. As if that isn’t enough shark for you, SyFy will cap off July with the fourth installment of Sharknado. You’re never going swimming again, are you?...

Sixty-nine days before Discovery is scheduled to unveil Shark Week 2014, Syfy this afternoon announced its first Sharknado Week — which, yes, includes the July 30 debut of Sharknado 2: The Second One. It also will feature the unveiling of Syfy’s new Roger Corman film Sharktopus vs. Pteracuda, which premieres Saturday, July 26. That means it will beat Shark Week to TV by more than two weeks. Discovery Communications execs were said to be less than thrilled with Syfy’s announcement, stopping short of calling it a blatant rip-off. But after Discovery had nicely invited Sharknado stars Ian Ziering and Tara Reid to be guests on last year’s Shark After Dark, this seems along the lines of stealing the silver on the way out. In its announcement, Syfy even used some of Discovery’s traditional Shark Week slanguage — “fintastic” and such. Here is Syfy’s announcement: Highlights Of Syfy’S Sharknado Week...

Exclusive: Discovery has had a change of heart about its Naked And Afraid after-show, Discovery After Dark — but it’s not what you think. The cable network isn’t chickening out after announcing the after-show with surprisingly little fanfare last month – it’s changing the name and the host, to the much better Naked After Dark, and to Josh Wolf, respectively. Wolf, known to some for his panelist appearances on Chelsea Lately, is maybe best known to Discovery viewers as host of its wildly popular Shark Week after-show Shark After Dark. Bob Oschack is back with Wolf, this time as Bob The Blur — he was Bob The Shark in Shark After Dark. And Taryn Southern will be the new show’s “social correspondent.” We regret to say absolutely no one will be naked during Naked After Dark — not even the Naked And Afraid competitors with whom Wolf will talk about that night’s episode,...

Since "Sharknado" become a phenomenon, the Discovery Channel decided to bring actress Tara Reid for its "Shark After Dark" talk show panel, which is part of the channel's Shark Week. It turns out that being cast in "Sharknado" doesn't mean that you have to know a single thing about sharks. In fact, Reid admitted that the first time she did any research on the topic was in preparation for the show. She said: "I don't wanna sound stupid when I do this show today, so I learned a little education on sharks. I look up sharks on the Internet and I see whale sharks. So I'm like that must mean that a whale and a shark have sex and then it made me think how do a whale and a shark have sex?" At this point it became clear that Reid's attempt to sound smart was backfiring. So she decided...

Think Discovery Channel is fazed by the backlash that greeted the fake Megalodon documentary that kicked off its Shark Week on Monday? Not when its new late-nighter Shark After Dark made chum out of the talk show competition again Tuesday. The Josh Wolf-hosted talker bit off 1.19M total viewers, topping Conan, The Daily Show, Colbert et al. for the second consecutive night. It also beat the competition in the key demos. Shark Week programming led Discovery to win the Tuesday primetime cable race outright in adults 25-54 and several other demos, with Spawn Of Jaws and I Escaped Jaws ranking as cable’s highest-rated shows in 18-49. No official numbers yet in the seals 0-40 demo.

Have you ever wanted a lesson in marine biology from a learned celebrity? Well, this isn't going to be it.
On Tuesday night, Tara Reid and her "Sharknado" co-star Ian Ziering appeared on "Shark After Dark," a live show that runs at night as part of the Discovery Channel's Shark Week lineup.
At one point in the show, Reid announced that she had done some prior research because she didn't want to sound "stupid," before launching into some utterly incoherent rambling on sharks:
"So I look up sharks on the Internet and I see whale sharks. And I'm like it must mean a whale and a shark had sex. And then I think, well how does a whale and shark have sex? ... Because whales are mammals, and sharks are animals. They have nothing to do with each other," Reid explained as Ziering and the show's host Josh Wolf didn't...

Tara Reid didn't spend enough time doing her homework. Sharknado! star Ian Ziering has been added to the guest list on Discovery Channel‘s first Shark Week after-show, Shark After Dark. Also signed: original Baywatch star David Hasselhoff, shark-diving WWE Wrestler Justin Gabriel, world-level surfer Laird Hamilton, as well as Alison Sweeney and Tom Green, despite their lack of known shark connections. Shark After Dark premieres tonight and will air each night during Shark Week from 11-midnight Et/Pt. Josh Wolf — best known for his regular appearances on E’s Chelsea Lately — is hosting, despite having no love for sharks.
