This is an excellent film to help students and viewers understand Rousseau's philosophical viewpoints about nature, human "achievement" and education. The film explains his life and thoughts through interviews with historians, animation, and re-enactments that combine academic and conceptual modes of storytelling. Director and Producer, Anya Zinoveva, presents Rousseau and complex themes in such a way that would make for great classroom discussions. The film is engaging, inventive and thought-provoking. It also relates the ideas to contemporary society, with humor used sometimes to provide an entrance to self-reflection. The film would be of interest for college courses focused on environmental issues, the history of education, philosophy, art education or consumerism.
