Great Grand Masti, the third installment of the sex comedy franchise, is all set to roll. While the three leading men, Vivek Oberoi, Riteish Deshmukh and Aftab Shivdasani have already started with their share of 'Masti' on the sets, the makers were still facing a dilemma when it comes to the leading ladies. Earlier we had reported that actress Mishti, who debuted with Subash Ghai's Kaanchi and model turned actress Ankita Shorey were roped in to play the female leads. And now Urvashi Rautela too has been roped in for Great Grand Masti. However, Urvashi is more in the antagonist zone since the film has been inspired from the first installment of this franchise, Masti. Prior to this, there have been many names that have been speculated to be a part of the film. While Nidhi Subbaiah was initially signed to play Riteish Deshmukh's wife in the film,...

Subhash Ghai, who started off his long and illustrious innings with Bollywood as an actor with small roles in films including Taqdeer and Aradhana, later went onto become 'The Showman' of tinsel town. Not many know that he was also the hero of films like Umang and Gumraah, before he directed the cult film Kalicharan. After all these years of 'contributing' his bit to Bollywood and with many awards in his kitty, it is time for yet another award to add to his collection. This time round, it is the prestigious Iifa award, wherein Ghai will be conferred upon the 'Lifetime achievement award'. Subhash Ghai's last film was Kaanchi: The Unbreakable, which did not do well at the box-office.

The very name of 'Subhash Ghai' immediately commands respect of the highest order in Bollywood and elsewhere. But, recently, there were strong buzz in the media about this Showman not having paid a few technicians who had been involved in his last release Kaanchi, which failed to set the cash registers ringing at the Box Office.
Speaking about this issue, Gulab Rao (one of the unpaid technicians who had provided the special effects machines) said that, despite the fact that they (Ghai and his team) utilized his machines for over one month, he hasn't been paid his dues (amounting to Rs. 1.5 lakh approximately). He added that, whenever he asked them for the payment (his due amount), the reason cited for the delay was the film's poor business at the Box-Office. Mishti whose debut in Kaanchi has been received lukewarmly by critics and by the audience is all set to do another film with Subhash Ghai. This time her co-star would be Salman Khan.
Far from being fazed Subhash Ghai's latest discovery says all the flak has made her stronger and wiser over one weekend.
Says the spirited Bengali girl, "It's is said, what can't break you makes you stronger. These last few days have matured me. Its amazing how one weekend can change one's entire life. Today I feel stronger than I did earlier. I think I've grown up."
Not that Mishti is overjoyed by the response to the film. "That's one year of my life. During the last oneyear I did nothing except Kaanchi. It was my life. Now there is a feeling of disappointment at the way some critics have responded to the film and my presence.

Kaanchi, Subhash Ghai’s latest film, received mixed reviews. While some critics gave the film 4 stars and called it spectacular, saying Subhash Ghai was in full form, there were some who called it slow and too theatrical. Sunil Gavaskar, who attended a special screening said, “Absolute pleasure to watch the film. It is stamped with the class of Subhash Ghai and has everything a film lover wants.”
Subhash Ghai has taken the positive and negative reviews from the critics in his stride. He says, “I am yet to remember any of my 14 blockbusters when they were appreciated on very 1st week of the release. None of them was appreciated, rather bashed slashed brutally for its demerits.”
Mr. Ghai says he has made the film with lots of money, pains and passions and he is happy with the quality of content and cinematic brilliance of the film. As for his social media critics,...

Once upon a time there lived a showman. He delivered films on larger than life canvases with heroic characters, melodramatic situations, grandiose dialogues and soul stirring music. We fondly recall the man who gave us iconic films like Karz, Ram-Lakhan, Saudagar, Pardes and many more! Sadly the showman never quite understood the evolution that happened to Indian cinema. He struggled to appeal to the changing tastes, the new generation’s demands and new age storytelling that Indian cinema had adopted. Today he continues to force the audiences to re-visit the style of cinema that once landed him with blockbusters however time and time again he gets rejected. Last Friday he tried again. And sadly last Friday, he failed again.

Three notable films release this weekend – ‘Kaanchi’, ‘Revolver Rani’ and ‘Samrat & Co.’. Each of these boasts of a merit of its own. ‘Kaanchi’ sees the return of Subhash Ghai as a director and one waits to see if this is yet another larger than life cinema in the offering from him. ‘Revolver Rani’ has Kangna Ranaut returning after ‘Queen’, which is still running in theaters. ‘Samrat & Co.’ is yet another thriller from Rajeev Khandelwal after ‘Table No. 21′ and ‘Aamir’, both of which were successes.
From the hype perspective, none of the three films has managed to hit the roof, though there are good credentials involved. However, it is expected that there would be primarily a fight between ‘Kaanchi’ and ‘Revolver Rani’, right from screen count, show timings to opening footfalls. Though not much is expected to differentiate between the two, ‘Revolver Rani’ may just about manage to edge out...

Subhash Ghai is currently touring the country with the lead actors in his upcoming film Kaanchi. The Showman, along with Mishti and Kartik Aaryan, is visiting 9 cities, attending and organizing events.
Starting with Bhopal, the trio was at a mall to interact with media where Ghai spoke about what kept him away from filmmaking for five years. “After Yuvvraaj I spent three years exclusively dedicated to my school Whistling Woods. Team Kaanchi also visited Raj Express and a press conference in Cinepolis, Bhopal. Heading to Ahmadabad next, a ‘Kaanchi Musical Extravaganza’ was held with live performances by Sukhwinder Singh and Aishwarya Majumdar with a meet and greet with the Kaanchi team.

It took 5 years for Subhash Ghai to find a story to pick up the director’s baton. Finally, he found a tale to tell, The Story of Kaanchi.
Ghai’s films always have a social message, and Kaanchi’s story is a story on the empowerment of women.
From the hills of Uttarakhand to the city of Mumbai, Kaanchi’s story is about a girl fighting for her rights. And in true Showman style, Ghai uses the medium of entertainment to narrate his story.
Starring Mishti and Kartik Aaryan, the film that also features Rishi Kappor opens on April 25th.

Salman Khan, who is known for being outspoken about his thoughts, recently vented out his ire at a group of students at Subhash Ghai's film school Whistling Woods. Apparently, when Salman went to meet the Showman at his acting school, he noticed that a group of students paid no heed to Ghai, as he walked passed them. It was the underlying disrespect of not acknowledging an industry senior, especially with the credentials which Ghai has, that angered Salman. On noticing this, Salman, true to his straight forward and blunt style, chided the students and gave them a crash course in manners. He asked them why they didn't stand up in respect on seeing Ghai, when Salman himself does so when he meets Ghai. Currently, Subhash Ghai is working on his soon to release film Kaanchi that stars newcomer Mishti and Kartik Tiwari. Interestingly, the film which will also mark...

After working together in Karz in 1980, Rishi Kapoor and Subhash Ghai have come together again for Kaanchi which releases next month.
When asked why it took 33 years to work with Subhash Ghai, Kapoor said, “Only Subhash would be able to tell. I was 27 when he shot the Om Shanti Om song with me for Karz. Today I’m 61, and he’s shooting a song in Kaanchi with me, which seems to have the same energy.”
Rishi Kapoor plays a negative role, styled on Vijay Mallya in Kaanchi. “It’s a negative character. The kind of over-the-top character that Subhash Ghai creates. It is inspired by Vijay Mallya; it’s been styled on him. But it’s not the story of his life,” says Kapoor.
Subhash Ghai says about Rishi Kapoor, “He will play a khalnaayak in my film. While he’s always been the romantic lover boy, lately, Rishi has discovered his mean bone.

Subhash Ghai recently launched the music for his upcoming film Kaanchi to rave reviews. Not only does the soundtrack include luminaries like Sonu Nigam and Sukhwinder; Subhash Ghai now got Mika Singh on board.
Mika recorded the song ‘Mushtanda’ for Kaanchi which was penned by none other than Ghai himself. While completing the album, a situation had to be introduced which led to Ghai composing a groove and writing the lyrics in 20 minutes.
Mika was then the unanimous choice to sing the song. The singer couldn’t believe the film maker chose him for his first compostion when Subhash Ghai first approached him. “I didn’t charge for this song. No price can match this love and blessings. It’s a big thing for me that I sang his first-composed song. I even shot for the video,” said Mika.

People today have an indifferent attitude towards actors when they see them on streets, going about their day-to-day activities. But this was surely not the case for Kaanchi’s leading lady, the beautiful and talented debutante Mishti. She was recently mobbed by fans at the Hard Rock Cafe.
On spotting her, fans went crazy screaming her name and asking her for autographs. They were shouting, calling her Kaanchi, her character’s name in the Subhash Ghai film. Security had to be called to keep the crowd in control.
Mishti’s close friend, who was present at the venue with her said, “Mishti was overwhelmed at first, looking at everyone who had gathered to catch a glimpse of her, but regained her composure soon after. She reciprocated their love and got out to meet her fans.”
