I Wouldn't Want To Go White-Water Rafting On That!
boblipton2 June 2019
This Charles Urban documentary offers twenty shots and the Zambesi River. Because the Falls are located on the border of modern Zimbabwe and Zambia, it was a particularly difficult location to get to more than 110 years ago. Nevertheless, the unnamed camera crew managed a fine assortment of shots in difficult terrain, including a number of short pan shots beginning about part 12. Quite an achievement for a year when documentary shorts longer than a single shot -- the technical modern term is 'actuality' -- were only a couple of years old.

Although the people in the area had known about the Falls for thousands of years, and some of them can be seen in their canoe-like boats, the first European to see them was probably Dr. Livingstone in November of 1855. They are quite a sight!
