Simply Flawless
ashishisin2 December 2013
Name of the movie is MY PAPAROTTI. Its the mispronunciation of famous tenor Luciano Pavarotti. Movie is simply beautiful and inspiring. A Simple, Effective and Engaging film. "My Paparotti" is clearly a very standard and straight forward , never deviating much from teacher-student relationship. A boy who wants to become Tenor and a Teacher who is dedicated but not interested in teaching students of his class who seems to have no interest at all. I loved this movie because of 2 reasons:

1. Very straight forward approach towards the simple and real storyline. 2. Moments of comedy, action and poignancy.

A Must see film...Just don't miss it.

mixed of all korean favourite theme!!!
fluffset26 December 2013
Of course this is based on a true story but I don't think the true story gonna be like this, if you ever watch a lot of korean movie, you will notice their favourite theme, such as gangster, cute love story, harsh out of place behaviour, slapstick comedy that is only can be found in South Korea Cinema. I love this movie, they did their job really well in realizing this. How they alter the story to be completely suit with all that theme. They don't really need a lot of CGI to make their movie, they just have a lot of story to tell us.Maybe their country not produce a lot of movie every year, but its show that quality is better than quantity. Just watchout for every korean movie. They are far better than states!

Feel Good Movie

Very loosely based on a real-life story, this film is saved by the glorious music it contains. If it were not for Bong Joon-ho's "Parasite", it would be considered OK Korean film-making. But now the bar has been set very high, with "Parasite" winning or being nominated for many awards. Now acting is expected to have some subtlety. 'Indicating' as Lee Strasberg called it, is not good enough, the audience has to believe the emotions an actor is showing - pretending doesn't cut it. And mugging for the camera is just embarrassing. So the lead roles almost get a pass here, a couple of the gangsters get a pass +, and the comedy routines are embarrassing. Maybe it's unfair to judge a film from 2013 by 2019 standards. But blame Bong Joon-ho for that. Korean film-making is now alongside the very best One other thought: when we are waiting for the lead to finally sing (and yes, we are made to wait - which is OK), we know he's going to be good, but it's still a big dramatic moment, so we are looking to see whether the amazing voice we are about to hear can reasonably belong to the lead actor. Unfortunately in the version available on Amazon Prime streaming, the voice is considerably out of sync with the lips. So the illusion is broken - and we don't believe he's singing. This would be easy for the editor to make right, so is there an issue with the print/file being used for US audiences? Or was the editor just sloppy?

And yet - despite all the above, it is an enjoyable film. The singing will give you goose-bumps. Made a few years later, it would likely have been more than just OK.

Entertaining combination
phd_travel7 November 2020
There is a combination of gangster trying to make good and classical music singer story here. It keeps things interesting with some action here and there. Some of the character's reactions are exaggerated and some situations are obviously contrived for dramatic purposes. Like the fight before the competition. But at least things aren't dull as it could be for classical music movies. Lee Je Hoon looks a bit old for a high school kid. He lip synchs well. He does not sing a lot of opera just Tosca and Turandot but it sounds great when he does. Another K movie about a teacher and student For Horowitz is also good and less theatrical.

Did not disappoint me

Rating this movie 10 because first this is a movie of Lee Je Hoon and second when I see two veteran actors Choi Jin Woong and Han Suk Kyo I always trust their movies. I did not expect anything about this movie but to my surprise it was really good and alot of funny scenes. Also the pair-up of Lee Jee Hoon and Kang Sora was also good. STRONGLY RECOMMENDED MOVIE!! 💜🙌

Gifted Lee Je Hoon

This is not someone just starting out or even a rising star: he is phenomenal, but he's also experienced with 14 years of developing his gifts. He can play any part, kicking butt with his martial arts skills, moving viewers to tears with the stillness of his expression, making the heart soar with his performances, and in these most recent just this year there is that maturing in expression and stillness. Letting the moment take the audience in. He's broken my heart several times-and made it soar in My Paparotti.

What a waste
MovieIQTest25 August 2021
Sometimes, a supposedly to be great Korean movie was simply ruined by a screenplay full of clowns and jerks, horrible scenarios, moronic dialog, exaggerated over-the-top acting and worst of all, a director who didn't know how to make it great.

This Korean movie is just like that. For the singing part, I'll give it 10/10, acting 5/10, storyline 1/10, directing 5/10, supporting actors and roles 4/10. This movie could be one of the GOAT Korean movies if it didn't lean too much to the comedy side, making it more serious without too many jerk-like clowns. I have to fast forward to the more serious scenes of singing (sadly, there were only a few) to skip those ridiculous segments (sadly, there were too many). What a shameful waste!
